I'm a day late but man am I gonna have a fun time watching almost 2 hours of Chris lecture new fish keepers who didn't do their research
The cichlid "timeout" maneuver is used by a lot of cichlid fishkeepers. The thought behind the practice is to pull out the tank bully, allowing the remaining fish to reset the tank hierarchy. It generally works better if you do some basic reconfiguration within the tank at the same time so that even their territories are reset. If the timeout doesn't work, then some people will move the fish to another tank or get rid of it all together.
African cichlids are a naturally aggressive species, but there are things you can do to kind of redirect their focus. For instance, when adding new fish cichlid keepers may do it after a water change &/or move things around in the tank so that the existing fish are focused on stuff other than the new guys that need to be put in their place.
Some pedantry: African cichlids are not one species, but dozens upon dozens of species, each adapted for a tiny niche within a particular African lake (they occur in quite a few). Seeing them in the wild is an incredible experience!
50:57 common plecos can actually stay out of water for a day or 2 if the conditions are right, their armor helps retain some water and they also store some in their abdomen, they also have been observed to “walk” they do this because their environment is fast moving shallow streams and they need to “walk” to another stream to get to a new area.
I'm a little late to the game but, you were talking about Dwight's piranha tank. I'm pretty sure when he loses his manager job, Jim makes him get rid of them and they show him walking out of the bathroom with an empty tank. They got a buried at sea. I was also very bothered with the Michael Scott paper companies fish bowl on Michael's desk.

You should totally start a reef aquarium I at first hesitated. but i decided to make a reef tank a couple of months ago and and it’s just as addictive as planted tanks. Very glad I started reefing😅
12:23 It’s ironic that I had a Chinese algae eater that was killing my fish, and I thought it was my swordtail So I put in this own 10 gallon by itself And I never figured out it was my Chinese algae eater till a couple of days ago and this has been happening for five months why couldn’t I see this video earlier
The Betta arena looks like it might be a suction tank. That makes the "arena" an extension of the lower tank. The fish can travel up and down the tube to get to the two sections. It is by far the smallest suction tank I've seen and there doesn't seem to be much incentive to go up in the arena other than a different pov.

I'm gonna be honest, "freed" goldfish in local ponds by me are a huge ecological problem. If people captured them and re-homed them, it would be better than the culling that's typically encouraged. Maybe that family was clueless and wrong. But they might've been clueless and completely right

This might be me just overthinking but I feel like in the fish community people live to find fish neglect. Every fish tank review there are a bunch of terrible tanks and I get it people need to be educated but, it just feels like people use this stuff for likes and shares. Like on Reddit every other Post is a Betta in a small cup or bowl. It's not even people tanks it's just other people spreading it. Im just saying every time I get on a dog subreddit I don't see people abusing dogs in pics or videos every 3 post
I really like fishkeeping and I understand people are messed up and uniformed but I just want to watch fish related stuff without seeing a fish suffering
30 years ago when zI kept fresh water fish it was already known not to keep betas in small tanks and also they can be in a community tank with some other species. I would have thought this was widely known by now. It's sad. Same with goldfish.
How about people buying budgies from the pet store and releasing them in the wild where it gets very cold? That is equal in my eyes to those people taking the goldfish from the pond.
The next time someone tells you a goldfish or betta are fine in those crappy containers (I refuse to call them aquaria) point out that forcing them to live like that is basically the equivalent of us being forced to live in an unheated 6'x6' room with no toilet, cleaning facilities, or door.

Hey.. I got a question for everyone 🎉 I’m new to the hobby and in Oct 2022 I started out with 9 juvenile endler’s 4 dumbo guppies and3 mystery snails in two 20 gal Long tanks. Ling story’s short.. I now have - billion snails and and a billion and one endler’s a and gupoies. I had a horrible ammonia spike and freaked out and mixed all the guppies in one tank. I’m still separating males and females! So what can I do? I’m planning on adding a pond in my yard. Can I sell them? I worry that they will be used as feeder fish if I give them away. 😢or go to a bad keepers home. I. Starting to feel like the crazy cat lady of fish.
@38:00 I been to another restaurant that does this and they have a big tank of fish to give as table company so it is only there untill the people are done eating. It is weird yes and idk why they do it.
I was the first to comment on a video regarding fish abuse the video shows maybe 4 - 5 fish in a small jar with 1 live plant and the caption of the video was "beautiful fish to make your day" I mentioned in my comment how it had no filter and to small I spoke about how would they feel if they were shoved into a tiny space their whole lives they may survive but it's hardly living.

Regarding 29.30. Some plants I can identify are fittonias, parlour palms, happy plant or cordyline? And also some pilea. I think there is also trandescantia. I would suggest with such high humidity some ferns and begonias!!!!! Actually I could suggest MANY!! Ahaahahaha, plant and fish enthusiast ^_^
It's rare, but I did see one Carnival in Canada that gave goldfish as prizes. I lived 2 doors down from the carnival and was sitting on my porch when a little girl and her father approached me to ask for a jar because the girl had won a goldfish at the carnival and the bag they put it in had sprung a leak. Fortunately I did have a clean jar

Just to let you know.... its more just the chemical reaction from them BREATHING the poop is secondary. The ammonia burn is basically just like us with Co2, Their breathing is the main cause of the ammonia burn

A 20 high or long? You could do a few more without overstocking so long as it’s balanced with plants and you keep an eye on water quality. I mean don’t go crazy but you can definitely add❤🎉
Hey man watching more of your fish reviews and I need to see these large ass fish in a small ass tank more often. It makes me feel like my single betta, a galactic KiNg, in a 29 gallon with a perfect aqua-scape, floaters excepted, and a 70 Fluval filter customized non carbon with media out the wazoo. And a perfect complimentary of loaches and guppies to keep an actual ecosystem where the plants even out. For the record it doesn't have to look nice, mine might look like a damn jungle in there. Add a squid-worth house for the loaches,no pleco required. GL mang I love your reviews.
For the record after I realized the fluval 70 was too big I got a 30 version. Still good fish keeping I seen the problem and I fixed it. ty for the heart mine is out for Repashi!

My sister has a Pac-Man frog. She has given them a 36x18x18 terrarium. She did oversize their terrarium a little but the frog is happy and healthy.

17:56 by the german animal protection law, aquariums for the permanent containment of fish should be at least 54l (~14 gallons) and fishbowls are just straight up banned.
So basically, all the nano tanks in german stores and on websites have to be marketed for invertebrates and tell you not to put fish in them long-term.

The Anthony Dutton tank drives me a little bonkers because the grain in the rocks….like mixing plaids in clothing. The plants however are sooo beautiful and I like the height too!

Pictures of bowfront tanks can can be very distorted. I had a guy tell me from my picture that there was no way my 72 gallon bowfront was 72 gallons and it was more like 25 and then he admonished me for my small tank. I have three fully grown dojo loaches in there and a fully grown fancy goldfish that all clearly had plenty of room. He was a little insane from my perspective, but after several responses like that now I don’t take pictures of my tank at any downward angle which seems to have put an end to those wildly wrong and instant angry responses

Based on the fact that the tank is about 8 neon tetras wide and about the same depth and height... that's probably about 2 gallons, not 15, and neons and platys are not guppies.
