  • All quick releases aren’t made equal. In fact, there’s a significant difference in what you want as a sim racer and in real racing - sim racing requires perfection to the tee, where real racing is all about function.
    Follow as our CEO and Founder, André, explains the difference between quick releases and gives you a sneak peek behind the curtains of what is to come from Asetek SimSports®. This is the very first look of our upcoming Quick Release connection for Direct Drive wheelbases and wheels. It features zero play, power connection, and support for substantial data transfer.
    In January of 2021 Asetek acquired a significant amount of Intellectual Property Rights from Granite Devices, who makes the Simucube wheelbases. In this IP acquisition, the right to use, further develop, and enhance the Simucube quick release was included.

    I never knew that there is that much play in the steering wheel to steering column connection. I've always obsessed over things like flex on a wheel deck on a sim rig. Maybe some of these things actually don't affect performance as much as we think. I guess though, that because we have the option to make a sim rig rigid, it's still best to get things as sturdy as posssible. I love these videos that show some comparison of real world and sim.

    Dear Andre and Asetek Team, thanks for the amazing products you have been presenting to us as, I'm using my Invicta and never going to change it I believe. I want to comment on flex within sim rig. It takes away the FFB in most of the situations and we only have the details of the car from the FFB so we need as much as detail we can from the road and the car. Because of this in sim, we can use up to 25 nm (the real cars 13-14 nm of power), but it is not only power, because of it's dynamic range of details, you know that too. Even motion rigs cannot provide real car G forces(and not everyone can build a motion system in the house). We are only limited to FFB from hand, and we try to handle the car with that info.
    In short: We don't want flex in our rig! Give us more amazing products Asetek, we want them FASSST!

    As a simucube 2 pro user ive always LOVED how sturdy the SQR is, ive had a fair few wheelbases and none of them have ever felt so solid...some like the current fanatec solution are laughably bad, but i was quite shocked to see how much play there is in a real race car, especially odd when you compare it to everyday road cars which dont have that problem. So taking that basic SQR design principle and making it a powered connection as-well is basically perfect... ive never had any issue with the simucube design myself, the wireless protocol allows up to 28 inputs which isn't much compared to the competition but in reality its enough, however it has always been a clear downside that granite devices really should have addressed by now (or maybe they dont have the right to do that now which would be bizarre, surely not right). I still wouldn't trade the quality of the connection for the increased functionality of other brands... but to nail both which it seems like you are on track to do, powered and completely solid...well that's all one can ask for.
    you said you acquired the licence for the design, does that mean it actually is basically a copy of the SQR with your own twist to the design being powered and pin-less? if so i think that was a hell of an agreement you got there, the perfect QR would be a powered pin-less SQR imo.
    on a side note that DD on the table is huge mate, have you acquired the licence to use the simucube ultimate motor aswell by any chance making that a 32nm or more beast right there? if that is not the case and that thing comes in at 15nm you might have a potential downside there because its enormous. Those led strips need to go aswell or at the very least be switchable off, its cheesy.
    impressive stuff, im liking what im seeing.

      @@AsetekSimSports thanks for the reply, i was late to see it. i look forward to seeing more about the DD, what we are seeing so far is quite impressive, ive not personally used any asetek products to this point but what im seeing is quite impressive and so far honestly probably the only manufacturer that seems in line with the kind of top tier gear simucube offers. Although it makes little difference it would be nice to see another manufacturer push the boat out a little when it comes to specs and ''overbuild'' for the sake of quality, we all know the 22bit sensor used in the simucube pro for example makes little difference over a 16bit one right but its nice to know no expense is spared, i look forward to reviews and seeing more.

    Great work. I've had Fanatec and now Simucube. As you say, the Simcube QR system is rock solid but has no electric connection. Personally I am happy with the wireless system, as don't feel the need for a screen. But you're system combines the best of both worlds. I need not go into Fanatec, their inability to produce an improved QR system despite rumours of development for many years is ridiculous.

    • @jinx20001
      @jinx20001 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you wanted to use a screen you wouldnt have any trouble anyway, theres a massive amount of screens out there low cost or high cost that are just usb to your pc or a hub and ofcourse because they are not wheels the wire never moves as it would need to on a wheel. i use a simucube 2 aswell and i have a couple of wheels, none have a screen but i do have a display dash just behind my wheel, zip tie the wire and simucube usb together and run them off to a hub no issues.
      the real bonus of having a powered QR is the increase in button functionality, with simucube you only have a max of 28 inputs, its enough for most people but it certainly falls short of powered connections, a fanatec formula v2 wheel is able to map 68 functions i believe as an example. Id never choose fanatec over simucube for that though, not with the state of their QR.

    The fact that a company can enter the Sim Racing market and revolutionize it in so little time tells a lot about the state the market was.

  • @djegovic22
    @djegovic22 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice product and presentation. Only correction I would make is that a wheel in real life gets plugged and unplugged WAY more than a sim racer´s. Many drivers take the wheel off everytime they leave the car, which happens several times in a track day. Then the mechanics have to plug it back to maneuver the car in the pits and so it goes. In sim racing you only take the wheel off to exchange rims, in case you do that, or for maintenance. But good to know you had longevity in mind when designing this.

    I've been thoroughly impressed by the simagic solution, using the 10-ball NRG QR and pogo pins for power. Fast, rock solid, cheap, is a thoroughly tested design in real cars, and supports screens without batteries or wires.
    But if you've paid to license something like the simucube wedge, then might as well use it. I prefer the paddle to the pin, for sure.

    Love the functional mechanism with power and data delivery. Though i must point out my dislike for the exterior design with the ridged exterior, instead of a simpler and a smoother, round surface as in the simucube design, which would be faster and thus, probably cheaper to produce (I'm boldly assuming and hoping, that the QR is machined fully from billet material instead of a from a cast piece). Overall i'm always happy to see a new player in the simracing scene and market, driving innovation and bringing new options for consumers and professionals.

    A question I don’t seem to find in the comments: does the QR work on other wheelbases? I don’t see how you’d be able to get a usb connection working without cable on just a QR? Because that’d be amazing. I had fanatec and enjoyed the no cables, and now I do miss that on my simucube.
    I would get it only being available for your own base, but I feel like there’s a massive gap in the market for a USB QR that removes the flying cable that works with any base. I wouldn’t mind paying a premium for it tbh.

    • @AsetekSimSports
      @AsetekSimSports  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mechanically it could work with any wheelbase. Either direct or with an adapter. Obviously we have no control over or impact on other manufacturers wheelbases, which oftentimes is just a standard servo motor.
      As you point out, in order to get rid of the wires the wheel base must have the wires routed inside, for example through the shaft. Standard servo motors do not offer that and users with such a motor will never really be able to get rid of the wires. It has unfortunately nothing to do with whether our QR will fit on or not.
      Our wheelbases are based on our own design from the ground, meaning we control all of these things and as such we are able to transfer both data and power through the QR with no cables dangling around.

    The "jump the gap" data solution with the pogo pins and flat contact points is a great design. Only issue I have is the paddle/handle in my opinion. I love the quick release operation of it but the issue is that if you're running a dash or button box that sits close to the QR/steering col, or if your monitor is positioned vertically close to the steering col/shaft then the little paddle handle could hit things when you turn the wheel. I would buy this QR but I would grab a small precision saw and chop the paddle off right at the level of the QR body itself. It looks like you'd still be able to engage the handle without such a big "paddle" so why not get rid of it and keep it more flush/streamlined? Or, if it can disassemble easily, we could machine or maybe print a new smaller handle to fit in there and be flush to the outer diameter of the QR.

    I‘ll never get why people are so addicted to QRs… In the last 3,5 years since I have my SC2 I may have taken off my wheel maybe 10 times. I have 3 wheels, but I really only race one, the others sit on a shelf and look pretty. But hey, it’s going to sell for sure, so it makes sense from a business point of view. So, well done.

      I get your point. But I like to race GT cars on Iracing, and when I get tired of that I switch to DIirt Rally 2.0 where I need another wheel. So I'm one of the guys that actually change wheels often.

      i somewhat agree actually, i also use a SC2 and very rarely change wheels, ofcourse if i did change wheels often it wouldn't matter on the simucube since it is completely pinless. while this upgraded SQR they have is nice adding power for more function, it will never be as reliable as no pins at all, even if they say its as reliable it simply cant be, you will have to make sure those pins dont get damaged, looks certainly good enough though, its like you said i dont think people change wheels as often as he was making out, its very rare that would be the case i think.

      I race GT and formula cars with a Cubecontrols F-pro, and ovals with an MPI wheel. I’d never try racing ovals without a round wheel, and I’d never try racing gt or formula without buttons on my wheel 😂

    After their pedals, they would be better off doing a real H-Shifter with a real mechanical feeling,
    which when the clutch is not (correctly) pressed, blocks the entry to the gear,
    with a hardware blocking mechanism controlled by the driver of the H-Gear.
    Can't be that hard.
    Pro-Sim SHIFT LOCK exists for 500€, the blocking system only, for H pattern shifter (add 1.500€)
    At a price of 2.000€, there is much room for a good H-Shifter

    • @AsetekSimSports
      @AsetekSimSports  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We are certainly looking at all options. The H-shifter is not on top of our priority list though, as we believe wheels, wheelbases, seat, rigs etc. are more important. One day will get to it though :)

    So there is no way that we are going to be able to purchase aseteks wheels to run on another base. This is frustrating. They bought the IP to the screens that cube Controls was using. They won't let others use it. So csx2 is no longer available.
    Now after changing Sim gear, upgrading and everything works fantastic I'm not changing wheel bases AGAIN to use whatever fantastic wheels they bring. I would of purchased their new wheel if it's good (I'm sure it will be). Alot arewilling to spend 2-3k on a wheel itself to attach other bases. Some have bluetooth and works very well others also have battery with 20 or 30 hours is very decent. Then plug in magnetic cable and charge. So now they will lose that market as simcube moza fanatec clients can't use them etc
    And they took the screen option from others too.
    Ridiculous move sorry. Not everyone is going to buy your whole ecosystem and people are willing to spend big money in this hobby for what THEY want and not be locked in.
    I'm just saying your losing alot of potential business by removing possibility of adapting to another wheel bases. No battery no power...no cable for ability to connect to USB and run an after hub like many. No screens for others as you took that away. Seriously?
    Let's just hope your wheels don't have the failures like your AIO pumps.

      We bought UGT. There was no IP on the screen. Anyone interested and able to source it, can go buy it. We offered all wheel manufacturers to continue buying from us and we offered them support. We did not offer their end customers support, as we believed and still do, that each manufacturer has to take care of its own end customers and we do not find it appropriate that we have to provide support for other companies' end customers. The original displays were impossible to get from the manufacturer during COVID-19 and before also, so we had no other choice than to EOL the products. We still support the product.
      The screens in our upcoming steering wheels will have nothing to do with that of the UGT - nothing. So this idea of taking anything away from anyone is just pure nonsense. We are developing our own hardware and our own software. Any company is free to do exactly that.
      Furthermore, we will make adapters for our wheels, so they can be used with other brands. In addition we are in the process of gauging interest from other wheel manufacturers to tap in to our QR/ECO system, because we believe it is best for the end users. We cannot and will not force anyone, it is an offer. But if you are not happy with the outcome, you should probably talk to your favorite wheel vendor, becase we will not be the issue, as we intend to support the industry and open up the co system to other vendors.
      We have produced more than 10 mio AIO liquid coolers. We have automotive grade quality levels, which is probably why big names like HP, Dell etc. have trusted us for almost 2 decades. That does not mean we never have issues, but beware there are many many knock offs of our design, and for sure lots of them are very bad quality.
      Much easier to have a dialogue if we stick to the facts instead of false information and rumors :)

    Why not go for an automotive QR spec like Simagic did? It's proven to work and also allows customers to use cheap aftermarket for secondary wheels that don't have buttons

    Please dont be fanatec where they sell products with lack of right to repairs and parts supply. if a product is sold worldwide these sort of access for the repairs service is important. as i always say what make a successful product is a successful tech support and spares available, monza, cummis, simcube all dont have tech support so their products becomes an expensive door stopper. what the use selling a car in a country that has no service garage sales will fail. and if you did not notice on fanatec FB pages is loaded with technical issue and out of box failure these are the main problems for sim users. having a fancy QR is not gonna boost your marketing but tech Support

      We are a global company with global customers. We have provided PC liquid cooling products to our worldwide customers for 20 years. Quality is obviously extremely important, as there is liquid inside along with delicate elctronics. We intend to do the same with SimSports. If you take a look at the interview with our CEO performed by Boosted Media, you will see that one of the very reasons to enter this space was the lack of quality as well as support in this market today.
      That being said - we are new in this space and we will probably face some growing pains as well. The intend is clear though. World class service and world class quality - globally!
