I’m the General Sales Manager for Lexus of Tucson and I’ve been driving a new GX as my company provided vehicle for the last 20 years. I commute 50 miles each way (100 mile round trip) from my horse Ranch to work every day. The hour drive feels like 20 minutes due to the amazing comfort of the GX. I live 4 miles back in via dirt roads which experience heavy rainstorms and occasional winter snow and my GX has never ever left me stranded. FABULOUS vehicle! You are spot on with your assessment…great video!

Coming up on one year with my 2018 GX now. It's such a great truck. Wonderful for road trips and totally capable for any of the mild offroading I've attempted on fire roads and the beach. Fits my two pretty big dogs behind the second row. Tows my small trailer. Gets around parking lots easily. Great aftermarket support thanks to Prados. Also, I get 20 MPG on the highway easily, and around 17 around town. Incredible.
Fun review, I wish I could have afforded a new one.

the sway bar is the size of a Coke can because of the awesome KDSS system. It allows an absurdly thick swaybar on road... feels like a car on road and then you get full articulation off road. Best of both worlds. Lock the center diff if you know you'll be off road for a while for even better results

Gets Just 19 mpg, (the twin turbo six GX-550 gets 17 mpg?!) no heated seats, no robots, no dials for sand, snow, etc., a DVD player in the overhead and third row seats (that stay in a closet) tons of interior room. Great review of a remarkable vehicle. I have a pristine '08 GX470. @ ~150,000 miles, totally quiet and not a squeak or rattle. Just regular maintenance over its lifetime. Never a breakdown or major component failure. It's an incredibly quiet and refined vehicle. The present GX460 other than the engine and bodywork is about 85% identical to its predecessor GX470 so the platform for the most part is ~20 years old. But it still works! I prefer the GX470 body style though. Can't get used to those swoopy rear quarter panels and door treatment on the newer GX's.

Awesome vehicle, I have a 2016, I put more aggressives and thicc KO2s on 17in rims, and it crushes snow or off-road. Drove it to Moab, beat the crap out of it, then drove it to Yellowstone and back to Colorado, 1000 mile trip and nothing, no squeaks, no troubles with suspension, built like a tank, and was very comfortable cabin compared to a more basic 4 runner. The V8 does get bad mileage and not that powerful, compared to a 4runner it is an improvement, the 4.0 V6 really struggles here in Colorado.
And Sarah is right, for off-roading you do need different front bumper, a 2in lift, at minimum off road tires, ideally on 17in rims as and easy upgrade to Crawl Control for $700, just switching out a module and then you're all set, with a torquy V8 it can handle a lot of tough trails.
I would never switch out to the Prado look, off road front bumper is all you need. And I take pride that its a Lexus, you cannot get a Prado with a V8 anywhere in the world, even in the Middle East the GX comes as a 400 with a 4.0L V6. I think only in Russia they sold GX460/470s alongside the Prado's. I've driven diesel Prados and they're barely move, that 190hp is not enough to move a vehicle this size.
That 2022 updated interior looks so much better then the 2011 interior you get all the way up to 2021 with the 90s Nokia phone infotainment system.

Seems to me this is a beast in a 3-piece suit. It has the Lexus name, lots of luxury, but also a robust body-on-frame construction and a V-8. Though that engine seems really mildly tuned, there are 3.5L V-6's that make that much hp, though not quite as much torque. Which tells me you could probably get another 70 or 80 hp out of it without much trouble, and I imagine the bottom end and transmission could take that. Fun review, and maybe we'll see a few more vehicles take on that new hill.

My 2012 GX460 is at 108,000 miles and drives like new! It gets decent highway mpg - around 19-20 but the city mpg is at best 15-16. The interior is also such high quality that I’m sure it will last as long as the this thing runs. Looking forward to another 100k miles.

The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a very popular vehicle down here in Costa Rica. Three models, with prices from $69,000 to $97,000 USD. The Lexus GX460 is also available at $119,000. Yes, vehicles are very expensive down here.

I think you should sell ratings stickers on your site: penguins, cookies, meatballs, beans (including e-beans). Of course, you'd need to have all the fractional ones-0.3 bean, for instance-which would complicate things. Seems like they'd be pretty popular.

Prado’s are a dime a dozen here in Australia. They’re everywhere, diesels and v6s. They have the nickname “play dough” because they are soft and gooey.
Realistically they go hard and we have many, many aftermarket options to toughen them up even more.

I always laugh when people in comment sections are scraping for insults against the GX and bring up the approach angle like it's actually a big weak point. Then we see 11:50, lol - great job proving that out! Of the 3-5% of GX owners who are actually offroading them, only the most extreme owners of that niche demographic would be taking it somewhere for the approach angle to require a bumper cut.
