Great review, Sarah! You had fun with the GX-460 beast, even in mud with street tires! I still love my 2005 GX-470, even if it’s way more basic, since I have to do all the robot stuff myself, but my big V-8 growls great, and the third row seats (for tiny Martians, apparently) are removable. But it was still very cool to see a review of this version of the Lexus GX.

You don't want the diesel it's way underpowered for this platform and I'm guessing the gx is heavier than the prado so it will do worse The diesel is the same one you get in the hilux A diesel yourll want is the one you get in the landcuriser 200 a 4.5 twin turbo v8
Ahmed Moosaji ayes it would be good if it had the V8TT D, but it’s still a good vehicle ai drive them everyday, you yanks are obsessed with power you can’t use and don’t need. there are many ways to improve this power plant and while the 200 is currently a V8 TT D the new 300 will be dammit a petrol V6 Hybrid to be released on Aug this year NZ/Aus anyways. Also a base model Prado VX here is 70k a base model 200 VX is 115k and top model is VX limited is 133k so not an apples for apples comparison by any means. As far as I’m concerned a Lexus anything is glamping and is not an Overland vehicle, it is look at me im a **** there is so much crap that will be ripped off that thing in any decent Overland situation. about Americans are obsessed with power they can’t use and luxury thats not functional or practical and so much electronic BS that if anything goes wrong good luck, but then in America you are 10 minutes from anything and if you can afford to Overland a Lexus probably don’t give a shit about crap like that either, also probably dump ya plastic and other rubbish at site too, as usually they are entitled wannabes! jmo though.
Although the GX is a formidable off road vehicle, it is totally impractical as and over lander. My GX gets about 13-15 MPG at 75mph highway and 8-10 MPG off road. This means your range is less than 200 miles off road. Laughable. The Prado diesel will get over 500 miles range. With the added fuel tank, it can get nearly 700 miles. So, as long as you’re over landing in your local park, the GX is great. But if you took it to the outback, you wouldn’t be getting very far out of town! Still a nice car although no excuse for this horrendous fuel mileage which is worse than a Ford F-350 with duelies in the rear. Absolutely no excuse!
Love your reviews. You definitely don’t give high scores easily though! A GX is definitely a 4-5 meatball for off road use. They’ve been proving they can hang with Jeep’s and 4runners for years now.
I have one of these I avg 17.4 in city driving ... Granted, it's a heavy vehicle and not a sports car. People complain that it's only 301HP, but I find it adequate for passing and merging and getting up to speed on the highways AND then cruising

Funny how it’s the little things like the way the back hatch opens that was One of the things I really liked about the FJ cruiser too bad they aren’t making that any longer those still turn my head every time I see one, looks like you guys had a lot of fun this one was definitely worth waiting up for that was definitely a beauty!
Great review! I like the front grill too. The 3rd row is mainly for kids. I had it in my RAV4 and it was great for times that guests are in town - seven passenger for the win!

that adjustable rear ride height should come in handy when soccer mums got the front end stuck on a rock, bet its got fog lights that come on with the indicators too. citroen could do better than that 50 years ago. what a turkey

My 2017 Lexus GX is the best car I have ever owned, and it has spoiled my reliability expectations for life. However, as perfectly as it does everything, I don't do the kind of hardcore off-roading it is meant for, and I crave something more fun on the road.
Could u take a Toyota Highlander up this same trail? Let's see how it compares & if an expensive rig like the GX 460 can be matched or at least close enough.

In your video, as you go through the note worthy updates to the infotainment, you mention it has navigation, and all the compatiblilities for smart phones apple car play, android auto, Alexa and smart watch compatibility. Can you show me how to connect those things... related to smart phone? Everything I read says it does not have apple CarPlay nor android auto.
Ok, hello from one of your Tucson viewers again. I have a 4runner which we specifically got for the 3rd row + offroading capabilities. Is the GX worth the money as an upgrade over the 4runner? Seems like you are getting a lot more for your money. But is it worth it? I never considered the Lexus because it's more money and I didn't think it would be better offroad. But the captain's chairs seem to make the 3rd row more accessible. And it looks like it's getting about the same MPG with a better engine. And you showed that it's pretty good offroad. Hmm. I have a friend that works at the Lexus dealer, maybe I should check it out.
I wish it had the split tail gate like the LX570 or LC200, or if it had a swing out gate it could swing out to the left which in my opinion is the correct way for a left hand drive vehicle for the USA. I don’t get why everything else is swapped to the left side, but not the rear gate. Wtf!

Great video! Subscribed. But I don't think this truck has Android auto or apple car play capability, just Bluetooth.
The trim is aluminum not plastic on the center stack.. I thought the infotainment system doesn’t have Apple car play... ru sure about that?

It would have been nice to see the GX get a decent 1000 mile break in period before getting the hill, but I guess not all car lovers care about cars.

Not necessarily off road. I bought because where I lived there is a lot of snow in the winter.
Put some good all-terrain or mud tires on that truck, and its ready for overlanding (camping).
