I'm old enough to remember and have been bowhunting long enough (early 1980's) that many bows back in the day had hard rock maple risers and wood/fiberglass limbs that were shiny and beautiful and the first thing we did is wipe the whole thing down with rubbing alcohol and then camo spray paint them. We left everything on because most of us didn't have a bow press then and the cables were plastic coated aircraft cable so basically the only thing we left alone was the string! Back then it was kind of an accepted ritual of the prehunt. You shot the bow, tuned the bow, camoed the bow and sharpened your broadheads and knife.

I remember the first bow I painted….a Martin Bobcat….I painted right over the spec sticker, so when it came time to order new cables, I had to scratch the paint off the sticker to get the lengths. Lol. Did you also do the “bondo grip trick” created by Chuck Adams? That was a great way to make your own custom grip.
back when the average bow was 48" ata. Now we got hunters saying anything over 34" isn't a hunting bow and would be impossible to walk through the woods.
Looks pretty sweet. It'd be cool if you made a follow up video after running the bow through a hunting season just to show if the protective matte coat held up and the paint doesn't rub off

If you get a sea sponge and tear it into small chunks them dip one of the small chunks in paint and just dab it on, it makes awesome camo. I do it on platforms, guns, stands and it works great. Food for thought

Seems like a good Spring project to me temperature wise but that is just my worry. It is so fun to paint things with rattle can and the "light coat" recommendation goes out the window. Looking forward to bumping into you all at an expo, camp, or workshop!
I'm a sucker for any camo and orange combo. I've seen a V3X with the internals of the riser with orange and exterior was the camo....a prep'n nightmare but the results were amazeballs.

Not saying this channel isn’t a good source of info by any means, but check out elk 101 and born and raised outdoors. They’ve done extensive videos on this. BRO did a show with a white board all set up with each state broken down with all the info you’re after.
Bows and guns alike are tools... not safe queens you stare at. Make it yours, make it do what you want! More important than your bow being "pretty" is it blending into your environment. Glad to see you guys get this! The orange was a bold move but dang it looks fine!

That’s a sweet look. This is one thing I’ve never thought about doing to my bow. It would be awesome if Mathews allowed customers to create their own designs to put on the bows and it would be especially awesome if they offered camo cams. Or cams that would match the color of the riser. Then again maybe there is a reason they don’t color the cams. I guess we’ll find out. Lol.
CONTENT SUGGESTION!!!!! Your at home archery bench work shop, tools, press, vise, etc. How You have it set up and why you decided to set up your space that way to fit your workspace. Just another form of ABT.
I did that with an AR-15. Got a can of green, can of black, can of gray from Walmart. Cut out some ovals on the cardboard from a tablet. Did not strip anything, just covered the scope lens. Sprayed it. Honestly it took less than 10 minutes. Let it dry. Went to the range one day. The guy running the range said it looked good. Asked me if it was Cerakote. I told him, Nope, Walmart. Got a good laugh out of it too. :) Edit: If anyone does what I did do not cover the caliber on the barrel or the range markings on the scope or anything that is tiny and you want to read later!
Who needs a warranty when the bows are free! I wonder how that would work on the bows that are hydro graphics dipped? If there was a way to attach pictures to the comments, I would show these pics I seen on Facebook the other day, the bowwas sick! It was like the granite color but inside the holes in the riser was painted blaze orange an inside the holes on the cams, and the strings and cables were orange. It was done really good. I have considered doing my Halon in the raptor liner from Amazon in an O.D. bed liner.
Try hanging the items you are painting next time with fishing line. Makes it far easier to work with and you won't get paint sticking to the cardboard.
And back in my “old days” (1985 & a Golden Eagle -Hunter bow) I made Velcro camo sleeves for my limbs and before that used camo bow tape, never would have painted my bow.

Back in the old days before hydro dipped camo, spray painting was common. The bows either had pretty lame camo or none at all.
