Oh my *god,* Brady doesn't swear. I am *so* jealous. I believe in swearing when you're angry to vent some anger. But whenever I'm around friends, I do it *all* the time, and I *wish* I only swore when I'm angry, or not at all.

Yes changing them is kinda inconvenient, but that’s only required once every 3 ish months, vs charging the brush every week.

I know that I am late to the conversation, but I think I might have something to add regarding the monkey copyright. I am a amatuer wildlife filmmaker who has a trail camera out in the wilds of the UK. Trail cameras work by recording a video when something moves past it, which means that I can get footage of deer and badgers whislt being asleep in a different town. Do these deer own the copyright of the video as they are the ones reponsable for triggering the camera? I hope not. I am the one who has put out the camera, altered the settings and went through the sometimes hunderds of files, (which is half of the job of a wildlife photographer), so I would think that I own the videos on the SD card. If I own the footage to my own trail camera, then I do not see what is different in the monkey case. But the monkey was the one who composed that shot? The photographer still had to choose the photo, which again, is half of the art.

Oh my god! Brady and I are the same! I just never swear, not for any real reason, I just kinda don't! I don't think it makes me better or that people who swear are bad individuals, it just never felt necessary to me, and now I kinda don't wanna do it even if I think it'll be funny because I have a personal brand I want to keep up

In order to meaningfully break the rules you have to know WHY they exist, i.e. what are their purpose, so that you can compensate for the broken rule in another way.

21:52 Isn't it just common sense not to have an electric socket near any place that can get wet (like a sink or bathroom).

In my building the gas valve in the kitchen is a feet away from the kitchen itself, and in the bathroom the electric socket is placed to the left of the sink, at the same level, so if you splash a bit of water that thing gets get right away.
And no, "common sense" stopped being common years ago.

There is a regulation in the US that requires electric outlets in water prone areas such as near a sink to have a magnetic switch that cuts off power (to the outlet) whenever there is too much current. Probably why people are safe around bathroom outlets.

According to the electrician that worked in my house a couple of years ago (I live in Canada, if that makes a difference) the breaker on electrical outlets in washrooms is designed to break easier/faster than any other breaker for safety reasons. I dont understand electricity, but somehow that is supposed to save our lives if we get shocked or limit damage? Frankly I'm not interested enough to read up on it or search for answers.

    • @Telamon8

Assuming bathroom electrocutions would be due to 'consumer products' in the US...
The CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) estimates that there were an average of 70 electrocution fatalities per year from 2007-2009 [reported to them] due to consumer products in their pdf "2009 Electrocutions Associated with Consumer Products."
... and very few of those seem to be associated with bathroom appliances (the give a breakdown of the electrocutions reported to them as well)

While a vice is a very relative concept, I believe my greatest vice is also used in my greatest strength, which is I have a TERRIBLE attention span (not so much to be classified as a neurological disorder, but enough so that normal conversation is extremely boring to me, since I'll want to be doing almost anything else along with talking to someone), I just cannot be productive while doing a single thing for extended periods of time, be it reading, doing physical or mental exercises or even just writing.
I also happen to be much better at multitasking than my closest group of friends, which were raised in the same school, under the same religions and overall a moderately similar background, and I think I would not be able to do so while not being easily distracted. Necessity, as it turns out, can really be the mother of invention.

The confusion around the addition of "breakfast" to Grey's daily list is odd to me. There are likely many people who have trouble remembering certain/most mundane daily tasks, and need that extra organization to function the way society expects.
Personally, fitting breakfast into my day is typically very difficult. I work best at night, and so I'm usually up late working on homework, music, etc. meaning I sleep in until the last minute. Remembering to actually stick food in my face before rushing off to start my day is problematic. I won't leave the house without clothes, obviously, as that is not something you can really do without noticing. It would be cold and likely embarrassing. I might not notice I'm even hungry until I'm halfway through my first meeting.
Not everything has immediate consequences for its inclusion/omission.

for the copyright section: biontech does the same. they literally did not research a single thing but hold patents for hundreds of production methods. this is what pure greed looks like. they dont do it for the greater good, they are only after money. they were scraping by bc there was no need for most of their patents due to the fact that there were enough alternatives. but now they got big via government "funding" (technically nepotism or something along those lines). in my opinion those who do the work should always at least hold 51% of the credit, even though they "technically" couldnt have researched it without the equipment/laboratory. on the other hand, the equipment itself would do even less. thus the team should always get 51 and the company 49.

What did they do to Florida's flag? It wasn't very good, I think it manages to have a seal and look okay, but I am probably a bit bias because I live there, but they changed so much. Oh and the house one, on it is lightning and says bring on the thunder which is annoying. Also did they just heard the lightning is a sports team in Florida or something, isn't it like the Tampa bay lightning (I should really know that, but I don't care about sports) and decide everyone here must like this sports team, so let's make that their flag?

  • @lirisa1869

That would be kinda silly, if the copyright resided with the owner of the equipment.Imagine a situation where multiple painters live and/or work in the same area.Paint brushes might get missedp laced or moved around.Does it matter if Artist A uses artist B's paintbrush to make his or her own work or does B now own the copyright to A's painting because B owned the brushed? I don't think so. Copyright doesn't make sense to reside with equipment.Even in the case with a couple, who swaps cameras, The copyright of the photo belongs to the person made thing. It resides with who created the work, not what created the work.
In the case of the monkey and the camera, I feel there is no copyright. It is just an image that was taken with no copyright holder.
I also am against the idea of copyright in whole because it is an immoral state-imposed monopoly.

    • @Lukec141

I'll admit, there is quite a bit of humor in this situation. I even think it is an interesting question to think of in legal context if the photographer has a copyright or if it's in public domain. However, I'm an anarchist. On principle, I reject the idea of the state and its various practices.
The enforcement of copyright entails that people (the state is just people that assume a role of authority) have to bar a person from using free speech or their property in a way that would in the state's view infringe their monopoly. This situation is just a a funny little byproduct of state force, which I view as inherently immoral, and how the state interprets it can use that force.

2.) I never said humans and monkeys weren't both primates. My argument with you was about how you used that to say my argument wasn't accurate, which is just fine with saying that humans, monkeys, and apes are all primates.
When you say that apes and humans aren't monkeys, you are wrong, not only according to cladistics, but even the Smithsonian page. We are monkeys and we are descended from them because our common ancestor was a monkey; we just did not from the monkeys that are still living with us today.
3.) Cladistics isn't a pseudo-classification system. It actually one of the most accurate and prominent systems used since we've been able to gathers and analyze genetic sequences. Older system relied more on physiological markers, which can be deceiving. Cladistics is based mostly on genetic sequencing analysis, which is far more accurate and corrected many mistakes in what animals we thought were most closely related to one another.
Thanks for proving that you certainly having studied these topics more than what you could gather from google.

Oh, FFS... Monkey isn't a scientific term. Laymen try to say it applies to them and not us, but that makes it polyphyletic, which breaks the rules of cladistics. Making the term follow the rules, it does make all apes monkeys and humans monkeys as well.
This is exactly the point I was making with sKebess.
Classifications only work if you actually have criteria by which to make it by, but I guarantee you can't name a single trait that applies universally to only what you consider "monkeys," and never applies to apes and/or humans.
Take for example snakes and lizards. Not having legs is not a universal trait of snakes because there are legless lizards. Things like having moveable eyelids, openings for ears, how much of it's body is a "tail" that can be detached are the universal differences between lizards and snakes.
There is not a single trait similar to that for which you can say "those are monkeys" and "those are apes."
Oh, and in reference to your point about mosquitoes and fleas (spelled flea, not flee btw)... All mosquitoes have wings. All fleas do not have wings. That's a very easy distinction to be able to say that mosquitoes are not fleas.

Monkeys are classified to have tails, humans do not have tails, same goes with other apes.

It's like trying to classify a flower then as in scientific terms, the species "flowers" does not exist.
There are no "monkeys" or Barbary in the chain of human evolution. That is why I made the flea and mosquito argument.

      **sigh**
The species "flower" doesn't exist, but it is a scientific term that describes those plants in the classifications of Angiospermae or Magnoliophyta. These classifications are bound by certain criteria that make them distinct from gymnosperms. It is therefore a useful term because it describes specific traits universal to angiosperms.
That is not the case for the term "monkey." It is supposed to describe a distinct group, but the groups have no universal traits that don't also apply to some apes or vice versa. That makes it a useless term under old taxonomies. If you apply it to cladistics and make it monophyletic, "monkey" then includes all apes and human, but makes them distinct from other closely related species, such as those in the tarsiiformes, which is a useful distinction.
Beyond that, even going by the old, deprecated taxonomies like you are, you'd be wrong anyways. Barbary macaques and humans are both part of the parvorder of Catarrhini, i.e. old world monkeys. Platyrhini are the "new world monkeys. They're both descended from the same group of simiiformes about 40 million years ago. At that point, they are all monkeys because what we even call apes aren't split from them yet, so your point that humans have no monkeys in the chain of human evolution is wrong.
But, even that is beside the point. You wanted to say that all monkeys have tails, so you can say humans aren't monkeys because they don't have tails. The barbary macaque is a monkey that doesn't have a tail, so the claim that all monkeys have tails isn't true and therefore can't be used as a classification method to separate humans from monkeys. There are no traits that can do this.
The only reasonable classification is to say humans are apes and apes are monkeys, therefore humans are also monkeys. They are a subset. They are not separate.

That was the entire point of what I've been saying: We are monkeys because you have to apply the term using modern cladistics or else it becomes a useless term.

I do this thing where I'm interested in a project I'm doing and I'll get tunnel vision, and I'll only realize I'm hungry because I'm getting irrationally frustrated with something going a little wrong and I realize "oh.. it's 3pm and I have not had breakfast today... whoops" to prevent this I've sort of made it so the first thing I do when I get up is have at least one thing for breakfast.. but it doesn't always work very well

    This is not an insult!
    I just realized
CGP grey would probably be diagnosed with autism these days 0,0
Atleast where I live (the netherlands)
    I believe this due to:
    - Being uncomfortable in (some) social situations, like when he needs to talk about himself
    - Loving routine and checklists
    -Hating unwanted changes
Again, I do not mean offence and by no means do I think of it as bad, i just noticed these "symptoms", I know abput 5 people that have autism and it all applies to them
Just a random thought of mine, curious to see what people think.
