      How would I know what led lights are compatible with my fan?

    You make it look much easier than it was but I am so happy I had success! I had little experience with wiring and I had to watch some additional videos on that whole subject. This process was time consuming even just finding the correct light and size. Since they don’t sell replacement lights Lowe’s told me I can bring the fan in and they would replace it but that seemed even more complicated. Thanks so much!

    Like Richie Friedman, we’ve been without a light in one of the bedrooms for a year. Moved in and realized it was inoperable. Easy fix, right? I’ve been looking for a direct fit replacement and today I finally TH-camd it. I’ll let you know how it goes! The local big box hardware store told me i needed an entire replacement ceiling fan! I knew there had to be someone out there that knew better. Thanks!

    Thank you for this video. I was confused why the bulb stopped working...it has been less than a year that we have had this fan. I'm not sure I would purchase another LED ceiling fan.

    This is so ridiculous that one should have to do this when one buys a ceiling fan / light. Never again. Standard bulbs from now on. Don’t buy this junk if Harbor Breeze can’t support it. This is the 2nd time for me. Had to junk the first pair of fans because the LED’s weren’t available. I made the mistake of assuming a reputable brand like HB, as well as Lowe’s would offer replacements.
    These light kits don’t last that long either.

      I agree with you that these should last way longer and they should sell replacements at a fair price.

    Update...went perfectly...to think we had no light for over a year...and for 15 bucks...bam! Have another fan in the den, so I'm ready. It flickers occasionally. Sunlite doesn't have the 40K, so I went with the 88480...50K...needed more light anyhow. Thanks for the grounding wire tip. One screw lined up as you said and I drilled a hole for the other tapping screw to hold down the LED unit perfectly. Side note... working above my head is not that easy anymore...lol...so I cut off the plastic connectors from the original, leaving 2" of wire where I cut, and did a wire nut splice on the new LED wires... and only had to reconnect like the original way in the fan housing...white to white, as you said! Thanks again👍 CHEERS

    I thought this video was the right way for fixing my Mazon ceiling fan's light.
    But it might not be the same situation. The terminal voltage you measured should be 110~120V but my terminal voltage has only 74V.
    I cannot proceed to the next step as you did.
    Could you advise me on solving my problem or finding a clue?

    • @ScottAllison
      @ScottAllison  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In this video it is a Mazon. The reason you're getting less volts at the light is because you have it dimmed. If you hold down the light button on the remote you'll see the voltage go up or down.

    Great video. The only problem I have is there on no stickers on fan stating the wattage. Fan looks exactly as the one in your video. Any suggestions on wattage?

    • @ScottAllison
      @ScottAllison  ปีที่แล้ว

      If it is the exact same fan then it's 18 watts. If you can find the user manual for the fan online you should be able to confirm the wattage for the light.

  • @jmorrisro

    Is it possible to just remove it and leave it off? My randomly turns on the lights in the middle of the night when turned off.

    • @jmorrisro
      @jmorrisro ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine too! I took it out. Still trying to find a replacement but the fan works great without it.

    • @ScottAllison
      @ScottAllison  ปีที่แล้ว

      It might be your fan is getting interference from a neighbor's device like a fan or even a garage door opener. You could try changing the remote control code if your fan supports that. Otherwise, just disconnect the light. That will work fine!

  • @enmodo
    @enmodo ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd do this just to get the color temp upgrade since I have 4000K elsewhere, even better I'm seeing I could get a serious bump in lumen output. The wattage probably doesn't matter too much if the unit is getting 110V in - that is its not being powered by LED driver with possibly limited power output. So long as the new unit isn't generating too much heat that it overheats other electronics in the fan - but in general the light part is well separated from rest of it and it's attached to a big hunk of metal (motor etc) with a fan so unlikely to be an issue. Also note that as LEDs get more efficient they need to draw less watts to output the same amount of light (lumens) so as the years go on expect that a unit with a lower Watt usage could be as bright if not brighter than one the manufacturer put in the fan years ago.

    • @ScottAllison

      Hard to say. Could be that, or just faulty electronics. Do you have it connected to a dimmer? If so, remove that.

      @@ScottAllisonthe dimmer remote came with the unit. Should I check with a multimeter like you did? Could the wires just be coming loose? It is happening on 2 fans actually.
