  • Fox Body K-Member Removal.
In this video, Landan explains the detailed steps on how you go about removing a k-member in a 1979-1993 Fox Body Mustang. While the process is fairly involved, a little help from someone else can make this process very quick and straightforward.
    Tubular K-Members.
Give your Fox Body an ultimate front suspension upgrade with a 1979-93 Mustang k-member & coil over kit. Tubular k-members save weight and stiffen the front end of your Mustang. Choose a coil over kit to get a lightweight k-member, tubular control arms, and your choice of several spring rate options. These kits reduce weight, give you better handling, and have adjustable ride height capabilities. Add one to your Fox Body Mustang for a rigid suspension setup that outperforms the competition.

My 91 GT vert had a really bad oil leak about 10 years ago , i bought one of those really nice metal oil pan gaskets and i figured while i was at it i could drop in a fresh oil pump for the heck of it,i tried my hardest to do it like most people do but that engine was not giving up that oil pan no matter how high i raised it. i know some people will just drop the pan a bit and work thru the crack but i have seen people remove the whole pan like this.
I finally had enough of it and after a few choice words i Just pulled the whole K member out, lol, this guy i work with said "dude i knew you were crazy but this one confirms it" i started on a Friday night and got done Sunday morning, the hardest thing when you do this is those damn springs, they can be a bear to put back in specially with that worthless tool the parts store rents you, mind you i did all this by myself taking some long breaks, you also should have a buddy helping you unlike what i did, makes it much easier.
Once that K member was out, that was the greatest reward, the oil pan just fell on the ground, lol

I was having similar issues then thought "well, since I'm down here". Bought the team z k member the next day.

I have a 351W with manual transmission assembled together and I thought I would have no trouble dropping them in together with my engine hoist. I was wrong. I'll be dropping the K member now to do the install.

Honestly wasn’t as bad as I thought. I just need a spring compressor to put it all back together

I did it the complete opposite. Just need to take out the springs without it hitting me. Probably will rent a spring compressor

Do you guys sell the bushings for the rack? I see in the K member install vid that you reuse the bushings on the rack. I would rather put new ones in my 85 GT that has been sitting a while and now being rebuilt..

Thank you for the video, before removing do you need to take measurements so it goes back in in the same location? Removing factory k-member to change oil pan and putting back, thanks

Keith - You can take measurements or mark the frame rail and k-member on either side for reference. -Landan

After you put a light weight K-member does it effect the handling on the car in a bad way?

    • @latemodelrestoration
      @latemodelrestoration  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

No, the lightweight K-member will be much more beneficial when driving.

What is the honest weight reduction?also does the bolts losen up driving around town and what if you get into a accident on highway?thank you

It will all depend on the K-member manufacturer. However, you can bet on an approximately 60 pounds of total weight savings. -Landan

Wonderboy, the bolts that hold the K member together are massive, they have some loctite on them if i remember correctly plus if I'm not mistaken they are a interference fit (the nut is slightly smaller than the bolt so it goes in together tight) doesn't hurt if you put it a few drops of loctite when you put them back together but if you tighten them to the specified torque they will stay in there forever, no worries.

Is this similar to a 99-04 GT?

For the most part, yes. Utilize the alternator mounting locations on the engine block to support the engine. -Landan

I love mustangs, I've had many over the years... But what I don't understand 🤣😃 it's why the fox body is so popular when u can compare the little shit with the ugliest of the family.. mustang II, which is by far the worst??? Don't mean to offend anyone with their cars, but think about it, small 🦐.. and big fuzz for it..the video is dope and I know u guys at lmr gotta eat. But have you ever 🤔🤔 the same...
