On this one you are right there is a round raised thing, but honestly I’m not sure what it is. I will have to look in the Anatomy of the ship book that I am using for reference when I get a chance. If I find out what it is I will let you know.

Thanks for the nice comment. The details that come in this kit are really good, and honestly there are no aftermarket products required to have a highly detailed model. This has not been the case in the past which is why I went ahead and got the aftermarket deck before looking at the kit closer. I think I will still use the metal gun barrels, but we will take a closer look at those when we get to building the guns.

For this technique use odorless mineral spirits as the thinner. If you use a lacquer thinner like Mr color leveling thinner it will eat through the paint ruining the paint job. An acrylic thinner won’t mix with the oil paint so it won’t work, and since this is over acrylic paint it could also damage the paint job. Yes standard oil paints will work for this technique.

Thanks for the comment! It is a fantastic kit with excellent detail out of the box. Honestly there is no aftermarket parts required to have an outstanding result. I purchased the aftermarket kit at the same time I bought the kit before I had a chance to look at the kit parts closely. In hind sight I wouldn’t have gotten the aftermarket kit because of a couple reasons. The first is the kit details are excellent as they are. I probably would go ahead and use most if not all of the metal gun barrels because I have them, but the details aren’t really that much better than the kit parts. Second and probably most importantly the wooden deck doesn’t fit properly. The cut outs for the bits that go on the deck are misaligned and are too big so there is a clear space where the wood deck ends and the plastic deck is visible at the base of the various pieces that go on the deck. I will be putting a very out a video soon that takes a close look at this issue, and ultimately I didn’t use the aftermarket wooden deck. Instead I paint the plastic deck to look like wood, and I also show how I do this in the video. I think it turned out better anyway. If you still want to get the aftermarket set it is on EBay by the seller acemodel-1. I think it is around $60 if I recall.

@@avion34 Thank you very much!! That is so good to know. I have already ordered a wooden deck but am in process of requesting a cancellation. Also, I did order the Vallejo "old/new wood effects" set. I'll just paint and weather accordingly. I can also use the same set for my un-built 1:100 Heller H.M.S. Victory!! My Gallery Yamato is "out for delivery" for today!! @@dermodellbaunoob work has been killing me lately and not leaving me a lot of time to work on the ship, but I am getting close to getting the next video out. It’s going to cover the rest of the forecastle deck, and I aim to have it out in the next couple weeks. There were some unforeseen issues that I show in the video that resulted in a longer time to get this section done. Thanks for your patience, but I prefer to do good work over just getting the video done.

Thanks for the comment. It did take quite a while, but the specific paint I used doesn’t come in a rattle can. If it did I probably would have opted for that to save some time.

@@user-fq8hv9de3t Very cool. This kit is from 1995 so I will say that the fit, and overall detail isn’t that great. It’s an excellent beginner kit, but later if you want a nicer B-2 in 1:72 scale then check out the one from Modelcollect.

It’s hard to remember exactly how the instructions were that long ago. I don’t remember them being difficult or bad. The main challenge I had when it came to instructions was following the various PE instructions along side the kit instructions and not missing anything.

The wood deck has an adhesive on the underside, but I plan on using wood glue to reinforce the bond with the plastic.

Who knows man 🤷🏼‍♂️ at the end of the day it’s your model so do what you want with it. There just isn’t enough information out there about exactly what those were. I opened mine up because the huge one at the museum in Japan are open, but also it will allow a small view inside the boat hanger.

The lighter color I assume you are referring to is the color on the underside of the aircraft. I used light gull gray.

I thought about that; however I found a more historically accurate Kure Arsenal Gray from Scale Colors that doesn’t come in a spray can. So speed isn’t the name of the game here. I am going for historical accuracy.

I left the acrylic paint to dry for four days. Not because it needs that long I just had to go out of town for that long after painting. I would suggest waiting about 24 hours to ensure the paint is fully dried. There are no problems with odorless mineral spirits directly on the acrylic paint.

Thanks! I’m glad you are finding my videos useful. I have been working on my first 7 months so far so I’m on track to making it to a year long project lol. The aftermarket deck I got for it is a fairly cheap one that I’m pretty sure is from china. I got it soon after the kit was released so at the time there weren’t many aftermarket options yet, but now I’m sure there are a few options out there by now. I will be tackling the deck in the video after next, and I may be looking for another option before like I said the one I got looks kinda cheap. I will be discussing this in the video once I know what direction I’m going in.

@@1x_rj_x1 that’s difficult to say exactly because none of the manufacturers have released a new tool of it in recent years. So all are pretty much the old kit that some have updated parts, but who knows what they changed. If I had to choose one I would probably go with the hasigawa kit because it seems like they have done the most updates to their kit. However when it comes to the exhaust nozzles I would still consider a resin set to replace the kit ones.

Yes the wooden deck has self adhesive on the back, but I plan to reinforce this with wood glue when I get to that point because I don’t trust that it’s going to be strong enough of a bond by itself.
