Always valuable advice Jean. One book I would recommend others consider reading is The Happiness Curve: Why Life Gets Better After 50 by Jonathan Rauch, who delves into behavioral aspects of supposed mid-life crisis that many tend to face in their late 30s and through their 40s/early 50s. It's a welcome reprieve from self-help books, instead providing a fairly gentle narrative retelling the experiences of those in that demo, and what led them to rethink what they consider happiness / how they should be living their lives. I'm in my mid-50s, and I can attest that it does get better, slowly in my case. I rocketed through 15 plus years of non-stop corporate work and ladder climbing, finally reaching a perch that I was subsequently knocked off due to COVID and restructuring etc. It's taken awhile to get over that and I'm watching many others go through similar experiences, but when the dark clouds part much needed life perspective does set in, and for the better.
Hi Bob, thanks for the book rec I’ll def check it out. I’m not 50 yet but life def took a big turn for the better slowly throughout my 30s due to big changes in perspective. @@JeanVoronkova Sure - the book itself is not so much about living in your 50s, actually covers more late 30s / 40s mindsets and examples of individuals addressing their own challenges of feeling a sense of dissatisfaction, and sometimes the feeling of being dissatisfied with dissatisfaction, if that makes sense. Explained a lot of what I've been hearing from friends and colleagues who are in that age range.

Being employed for too long can make you take instruction endlessly till you forget how to direct your own life. When you quit your job, suddenly you’re given tons of freedom and zero instructions ( that’s where it gets tricky ). It’s hard to be self motivated and create your own road map ( for those who has been employed for far too long I mean ). Just my 2 cents 😉
I absolutely agree with what u point out cos I have sort of experienced it myself. Sudden freedom can be terrifying when one has been deprived of self decision for too long. But all the more it suggests that one must start down that journey of regaining at least some self determination over one’s life asap, no?
@@JeanVoronkova I fully agree and admire your transition Jean. That’s why I follow you and also suggested a few of my friends who’s been employed for too long and has been retrenched and lost now 👍
You cater to self improvement. I cater to those who want to improve society for those who can't afford to leave their job and will NEVER be able to afford to leave their job: the working class. You seek entrepreneurial goals, I seek to eliminate entrepreneurship in particular and capitalism in general.
well, here's another one; its not as easy as she explains jst like a commercial; lol; btw, she can audition for one; coming to qutting 9-5; is a serious hustle; especially when u r in debt.
I read a book by Paul Terhortz (or something like that) many years ago called "Cashing in on the American Dream, How to retire at 35." He did the math and retired early but he also noted that you can always go back to work but wont make the same income that you did before (in the same job/field... Its a good thing to consider; the choice is not binary to either work forever or quit and never work again. There is ALOT of excellent advice in this video. One thing that Jean points out in her intro is that she lives on passive income. Yes debt limits options and in some ways the opposite of passive income. Eliminating debt is in a way like increasing passive income (by reducing your overhead and therefore less passive income is retire to your professional or COJ (Crappy old Job). I do understand the positive impact of interest rate arb; borrow at one rate and leverage at higher yield. Really, the biggest hurdle is FEAR. Geo-arb really lowers the monthly expense nut. Thanks for another great video Jean.
Debt isn’t always a negative, for example: I still currently have a mortgage which I service via rental of that property, due to having managed my refinancing properly I still hv a fixed low interest rate currently in this climate of high interest rates, which means the money i save not paying off my mortgage can be earning higher fixed deposit interest rates elsewhere. Debt is also part of financial management n can be used to one’s advantage. But ultimately one must be managing one’s finances properly in the first place. I wd never advise anyone to quit their jobs if they need the salary to service their debt. That’s just irresponsible and dumb.
Hi QQQBall, thanks for your comment, n it’s really nice to know that there’s you in the audience who understands the background nuances to my videos (the caveats to the video cd go on forever of course but for brevity’s sake it’s mostly for ppl to surmise). To add to your point, we see retirement as not having to work for others and on other people’s terms. We still remain active in our retirement and what we do does not preclude activities that cd possibly generate income, for eg: this channel, which was born of a combo of my hubs hobby for cam work n my interest in telling stories, or perhaps my art, which has received many offers for purchase (not that I’ve actually sold any tho, I’m not confident enough yet to do that haha). Also, I think if u shd exit the 9-5 life but later on decide to u turn back, I’ve done it for a short period before, 4 years after I initially left, n I managed to get a similar pay in a slightly parallel field, and I’ve also known ppl who have u turned who weren’t significantly disadvantaged by the fact that they left. I think a lot of it is how u “package” your time away. Just my two cents :)
Hey Jean you are doing a good job of helping people get out of the rat race, but you are still telling them to find happiness through chasing Money! That is totally not the way. Teach them to follow their hearts, and give kindness, love, and generosity to all including Mother Earth with no fears of losing their security. I miss your videos of you living in Bali and living with the locals. If you give 1 it will return as 10. Peace and love, Dennis
Hi Dennis, I disagree w your interpretation of my video. As a person and in the videos I don’t believe I hv ever represented that the pursuit of money is no. 1, in fact I think I mostly try to represent the opposite. But the fact of life is that we all need to be financially responsible for ourselves, to lead the life we do. This video is geared to help people achieve at least that basic level of financial independence to pursue their own passions if the job is not it for them. I think that is the basic starting point to getting to a position in life where you are able to give to others. If you can’t be financially responsible for your own life what on earth will u be able to give n share n contribute to others n the local economy?
Jean i appreciate what you are telling people, But you are still focusing on Money! That is not the way to find happiness. You have to find it in love and compassion and helping others who are less fortunate than you. Give the the children quidedence.
If you’re referring to the buy me a coffees, they don’t support my life for sure! But each time someone does it that token of belief n encouragement really motivates me to keep on producing better independent content
wage slave? so derogating, I don't even watch and clicked the unsubscribe right on. Ah nia, you are blessed and got options, but there are many others who are less fortunate and got mouths to feed.
So? It’s not as if if I don’t use the term, which is a valid and existing term in common usage to discuss workplace problems, the problems of differences in income n skills distribution is gonna disappear right? Or does it make u feel more comfortable if everyone just avoided pointing it out? Anyway this channel and my discussions do not seek to solve those kind of issues. I can only contribute to issues I hv experience to share my input upon.

Disbelief or disappointment?
well, here's another one; its not as easy as she explains jst like a commercial; lol; btw, she can audition for one; coming to qutting 9-5; is a serious hustle; especially when u r in debt.

Thanks! 🙏🤓
Why do you want people to support you financially?
If you’re referring to the buy me a coffees, they don’t support my life for sure! But each time someone does it that token of belief n encouragement really motivates me to keep on producing better independent content

Aww thanks!
wage slave? so derogating, I don't even watch and clicked the unsubscribe right on.
