This wasn’t always going to be the issue with staying at Anfield and not moving. The work on the 2 new stands has been great but you now have 2 big modern stands now and 2 outdated ones. If not full expansion the Kop and Kenny Dalglish stand certainly need some sort of redeployment or refurbishment.
Liverpool simply have to demolish and rebuild the Kop which will require Liverpool buying out the shops and church on the opposite side of the Walton Breck Road and then that road will need to be relocated so a bigger taller Kop stand can be built holding a minimum 20,000seats that matches the architecture and height of the New Anfield Road Stand. You could tunnel over the Walton Breck Road or relocate it, but Liverpool needtwo progress and develop Anfield is Stage 3 redevelopment of the ground to hold at least 70,000 fans and this really needs to be progressed and completed in the next 10 to 12 years. This also will need to see other infrastructure developments around the ground to be made with ideally some sort of rail link to Anfield Lime Street or a tram link..There also is a chronic need for more Car Parking facilities around Anfield with maybe a multi 5 or 6 story car park built on the current Stanley Park Car Park . I think the Kop redevelopment is a necessity for the club to acheive and progress and will be the easier stand to enlarge rather than the Sir Kenny Stand but ultimately Liverpool need to redevelop the Kop on the next decade and the Sir Kenny the decade (2040's) to turn Anfield into a 80,000 capacity Stadium .If not possible then the club to progress and maintain its postion alongside ,the Mancs, and the other top European clubs will need to look at building that 80,000 seater stadium in Stanley Park and then return Anfield into a memorial park as a green space replacement for the loss of Stanley Parks Green space. Liverpool simply have to develop and play in a 80,000 seater home stadium and this should be the objective of the next 20 year plan by the club
The Kop is an awful stand, too many seats and they're too small to fit them in. Another problem is the Dalglish stand, you can't see half of the pitch if you stand up at the back. Honestly, the whole ground is still 20-40 thousand seats short.
LFC have been buying up houses behind the SKD and the Kop that come onto the market via a company in the Channel Islands. That would suggest they are planning to extend Anfield.
As a club they can't think about now they have to think way into the future & you can put money on it that there will be further expansion at some point in the next 15 years.

As a Manchester United fan from Toronto, Ontario, I see Anfield as one of Europe’s most iconic grounds and respect Liverpool as United’s only true rival. The sentimentality around places like the Kenny Dalglish stand is clear, but with INEOS on the verge of building a new 100,000-seat stadium near Old Trafford, I wonder how Liverpool will compete. Real Madrid and Barcelona already have large, magnificent stadiums, and once ours opens in four to five years, it’ll set a new standard. If any club besides United deserves a 100K stadium, it's Liverpool Football Club.
Manchester United’s rivals at the moment are Brentford,Leicester and westham!! Fact…. Pointless having a brand new shiny stadium and you’re at the bottom of the league. I would just keep watching the Toronto blue jays 😊

The club are actively slowly acquiring the property behind both stands so to say its not in the pipeline to expand further is a load of nonsense. Yes it's not going to be in the near future because a lot of issues to do so need to be addressed first. The main ones are obviously transport and the acquisition of all the property behind the stands, both are achievable but will take time. The kop I believe will be next, that road can be slightly diverted and would not need to be closed to achieve this either. The new road can be built and then joined each end once ready, it's not an uncommon way of doing major roadworks, it's done like this in the UK and this would be no different. The kop expansion would not add a lot more to the capacity possibly around 3k-4k extra, the main reason to expand and redo it will be adding better facilities within the stand, possibly even bigger museum and restaurant for vip ticket's, this would make it more financially viable other than just additional seats.
I was going to say something very similar, I 100% agree with this. I believe the company that is buying the property is separate from Liverpool FC and is from the Isle of Wight (I’m not 100% on the location) but receives large donations from FSG. This is all 100% legal and normal practice. YNWA 100% they are expanding further!
Liverpool city council just released there plans for that road behind the kop that they are upgrading it. So no it’s not getting moved. As for the club buying houses that’s just pure speculation
@DCC114 sorry where does it say it's not being moved? All that's been announced is improvements to that road and others around the area, there has been no plans as in drawings to show the final development so although you might be correct you can also still be wrong. Even if it's not done just now it does not mean it can't further down the line either, it could easily be a phased reduction in traffic on this road as they are also implementing 20mph along it in certain parts. Again you can't say for sure it can't or won't be during this stage or further down the line once property is acquired and transport infrastructure has been addressed, which you are talking years from now.
I look at how far we fell behind United due to their expansion all them years ago, then I look at how modern clubs are expanding their stadiums due to popularity of the EPL and the ever expanding population, then I look at rivals and champions league competition, and it's very clear to me that to keep pace, to stay competitive, we need to expand at least 70 - 75k stadium. I know the logistics are against, but ultimately I'm sure all things are already being considered and I wouldn't rule out new ownership rebuilding a new stadium away from Anfield should they not be able to expand further, personal I'd hate liverpool to move away. If I was a betting man, I still believe in further expansions will happen
@@markchapman9086 well the big guns will soon have around 100k seater stadiums.. Man u, should they go ahead and expand or rebuild a 100k seater stadium, will dominate transfers again, just like the 90s. I know alot of ifs and buts.. its my opinion that we need to keep competitive
Spurs just spent £1.3B on a 62,500 seat stadium. Arsenal's ground is 60,700. City's ground s currently being expanded to 62,000. We have no idea what United will do but it's years and billions of pounds away. In Europe, PSG is 48,000, Bayern 75,000, Atletico Madrid 70,500. Inter Milan are currently planning a 70,000-seater.Bigger would be great, but we are absolutely on par with our rivals in raw capacity, Real and Barca aside (we just have to cop for that, it's a p***ing contest with those two). In the end, we are the 7th richest club in the world one way or another (if you believe City's figures 👀 ). Moving away from Anfield for a few extra seats would be an enormous net loss on almost every level.
I don’t understand this Small Town Liverpool mindset of “No Further Development.” We all gripe about Man City taking over… How exactly do Liverpool win the longterm war by staying the exact same? How. United will rebuild Old Trafford, Madrid has a 100,000 seat brand new stadium, Barcelona 100,000 new stadium, Everton brand new *larger* stadium… Bayern Munich (whom we SHOULD see as our model club to keep up with) have a new 75,000 seat stadium… So HOW exactly do Liverpool in 2024 keep up with the Madrids, Bayerns, Barcelonas, Citys of the globe by doing Nothing going forward? How? Anfield absolutely needs to be a 70-75,000 seat stadium to maintain global dominance, otherwise we silently slide backwards into Mediocrity. This is crystal clear!
Exactly right - if LFC are aiming to compete with the biggest clubs in Europe, we need a stadium with a capacity that matches theirs. A bigger stadium will bring more revenue not only to the club, but the city as well.
The "Emptyhad" will be 61,000 after the current expansion though. Just thought you should know. And Everton's new stadium capacity still fall short of Anfield's.
To be fair madrid and barca are tough examples to follow. Barca have been playing in the olympic stadium. Madrid have been playing in their B team stadium. What would liverpool do? Play in st helens? Tranmere? They’ll have to buy the houses and adjust the road
@@04mdsimps tienen que pensar como el equipo más grande de Inglaterra y llegar a 80000 espectadores y si no se puede hacer eso en Anfield, tienen que hacer un estadio nuevo con esa capacidad o más
Could drop Walton breck road down, tunnel under the Kop and easy enough to relocate the church, only comes down to cost. the transport links to Anfield already need expanding, getting away from the ground is so difficult cramming into the buses or walking back to Liverpool centre. Skerries road is more difficult, again comes down to cost on buying the houses and whether the residents would be willing to leave, which they understandably probably wouldn’t.
All sounds possible and feasible but at the end of the day it comes down to cost and this sounds wildly expensive for a smaller return on investment giving Kop would traditionally but local fans. FSG aren't going to invest massive into something that will take a long time to pay off and see their own share prize rise sadly. They want maximum return in shortest time frame
@@andrewgrave there are three streets to the north with no houses on them. Surely the club could build three streets of houses there and just swap with skerries road residents, they get a brand new house a stones throw from where they live and the club don’t have to buy a house at above market value. You can build for less than you can buy. Can’t see anyone turning down a brand new house
As an Anfield resident I would love a Merseyrail connection into the city centre, but how is it going to be built, how much will it cost and how long will it take to build? Tunnelling is expensive, and especially under a city with lots of infrastructure above and below ground. If money were available I wouldn't expect it to be ready for 10-15 years. Better option is to reintroduce passenger traffic to the Bootle Docks branch line that crosses Utting Avenue on a bridge. A station built across the road on a new bridge would be a short walk to the ground.
It's a short walk and good exercise to/from Anfield and Sandhills plenty of fans do it no complaints so no need for a train station right outside the stadium
@@timdarby1969That's a fairly long walk. Almost a mile and takes 20 minutes to the corner of the stadium. I don't know if that would count as adequate mass transit for planning purposes.
@@tomhoworth1685 Utting Avenue is admittedly a less than ideal solution and wouldn't support the public transport needs of an expanded stadium, but would be a step towards improving the current poor situation. The only other way of getting rail to Anfield is in a horrendously expensive tunnel.

When it was a decision between developing Anfield or building a new stadium, they didn’t say develop “half” of Anfield. Also, could the kop not be made steeper to expand the number of seats, it’s a very shallow incline currently and not as steep as the new Anfield Road stand from what I can tell.
Surely The club could buy the empty land on Bagnal, Baltic and Holman street and build new houses for everyone on skerries street thus enabling them to knock that street down and gain the space they need, the residents would be getting a brand new house built to todays spec and only having to relocate a few hundred yards. And that would be cheaper than buying everyone out. And the club could buy up any other bits of spare land the other side of Walton Beck road, build a new church and relocate that and any other businesses that are still trading and they have the space to do the kop. It’s not rocket science.
Skerries Road can be bought up and the SKD stand can mirror the main stand. The Kop will be much harder. Transport will for sure dictate any future builds. Houses were bought up in the past and can be again.

The Kop will be next. The road is an obstacle but it’s not the most difficult thing to build a stand over a road. Expansion will happen under the next ownership cycle. FSG have done enough at Anfield. They will not be wanting that kind of outlay to get the additional seats, it won’t be economically viable for them. It would be for next owners though.
If the Kop & SKD can't be redeveloped, Liverpool will have to build a new stadium, it's as simple as that. FSG will probably be happy for that to be the next owner's problem
We have 2 old stands if we aren’t able to expand them we should at least redeploy & refurbishing them in a modern way internally and externally. YNWA ❤
On balance, the only way to achieve value for money while increasing capacity is to build a new stadium, however I dont see FSG being the ones to do that since they have a track record for maximising asset potenital as opposed to developing new assets from scratch. The only other short term option to increase capacity appears to be expansion of The Kop over Walton Breck Road, which would take some logistical creativity. This biggest challenge of course is what to do about Walton Breck Road. LFC already own a good portion of the land opposite The Kop between Venmore St and Burleigh Rd which would enable a temporary or permanent diversion of Walton Breck Road while a bridged structure is safely constructed across the existing road before either putting the road back to its current location or leaving it where the diversion runs. Then there is the issue of the Church and Park Pub to consider, however this is easier than dealing with people's houses and less controversial in the community, so not insumountbale a challenge given the clubs previous expereince of such matters. The area between Gilman St and Pulman St have been left undeveloped since the Main Stand build, so can be used as a staging post for The Kop expansion construction site. The expansion of The Kop could then facilitate the development of the corners to the SKDS and new Main Stand. Overall, this could increase capacity by over 20k, which would be nice. YNWA.
i was always inder the impression that match days dont make a ton of money , its the T.V. rights that make the money , so it seems a lot of money and effort for not a lot of return , dont get me wrong , it would be nice, but Anfield is a very imposing place for visiting teams and fans , would making it bigger make that much difference ?
The Kop is a strange stand. Why an earth is it so shallow. Cant they knock it down and build a steeper one with corners. That will take the capacity to to 70k.. Anfield needs to be a 80k stadium.
If we can't expand Anfield beyond 61,000 we shouldn't have started the project. Anfield should be an 80,000 seater, they should have built a new stadium on Stanley Park when they had the chance to do so.
one of the reasons we won our last UCL title was due to ANFIELD. Why the hell would we knock it down when it's contributed to us winning so many important games?
@mdptg1990 who said anything about knocking ANFIELD down? We need to expand beyond 61,000, but we can't do that, but we could have built a new stadium on Stanley Park...
I know a lot of Liverpool fans are against the idea (for obvious reasons) but the solution is to turn a large portion of the Kop and main stand into standing areas. Remove the seats and put rails in, obviously make it safe and instantly add 20k+ fans per match. The cost would be minimal compared to building a bigger stand so the money saved can be put towards to the local infrastructure to get fans to and from the game.
@atmavictu2995 International games can be played at International stadiums, where they belong. Anfield is Liverpools home and 20k extra fans 25 times per season would far outweigh the benefits of hosting the odd International match.
Skerries road and even the roads behind it can be bought up. No need to force people to move but wait patiently and buy when they become available or offer well above market price. Even if it takes a decade or more. As for the road you wouldn't need to shut it down while building an alternate road next to it. Only one corner of the Kop is affected by the closeness of the road. Plans need to be made now with the council. Building a better Anfield and providing transport links is better for all of Liverpool.
The further expansion only possible to do after Everton move into their new stadium, because they could relocated all community who will affected with the project expansion into Stanley park thats would be easier to negotiate with Liverpool city council to granted the permission for the construction
Horrendous lack of foresight by the club. They should have moved to where the new police headquarters is now but in the 90s, down by St Anne Street/Greaty. You would have had a short walk to both Lime Street and Moorfields, quick access to the tunnels and the M62 via Islington and Edge Lane. I'm sure the loop line runs nearby so a new station would have been feasible.
The owners wanted the cheap option, new stadium between 80-100 was the way to go. Only two clubs in the uk can fill that comfortably, Liverpool and united. Having two 90k stadia in the north west would have been amazing for the region.
I would love for us and it would be fitting also to lead the way on safe standing at English games. If we could copy the German system where it’s a mixture of railed seating and terracing, I believe the Kop could add 25% of spectators on its current limit - similar to how the Yellow Wall terrace in Dortmund’s stadium.
Don't make me laugh, The third phase of Anfield expansion will be carried out in at least 2-3 years And FSG has done this regularly from the New main stand, continuing to the Axa training camp, then the Anfield road stand. Of course, FSG wants to first profit from the construction of the New Anfield road stand from the proceeds from ticket sales at the stand. Even the houses around the Sir Kenny Daglish stand have been purchased to expand the land for the construction of the new stand, as well as the houses, boarding houses and pharmacy shop behind the Kop stand. So if you talk about no more new stands being built after the Anfield road stand, that's really a stupid statement
The kop needs to be one of the most impressive stands in world football, it looks crap now with its low roof and the two newer stands. The SKD is so old and uncomfortable that something has to be done. Personally I can't see anything happening stadium wise for at least decade unfortunately.
when the Centenial (now Kenny Daglish Stand) was built in early 90s - the club had bought a few streets of run down terraces behind the then existing Kemlyn Road stand to get the room. So the more recent moves - of buying and bulldozing housing to expand the Main Stand - wasn’t the first time
The biggest mistake was designing the main stand with stanchions restricting further expansion into the corners. Absolutely botched it. The SKD stand and the Kop have to be reconstructed if Liverpool wants to keep up with the big boys.
Evertonian here coming in peace: The sensible option would be to knock Anfield down replace it with new parkland, to replace parkland lost to a new 80,000 seat stadium in the middle of Stanley park. The real reason this won't be done is because you're run by Americans and the American model is restrict ticket availability so you can sell them at a premium and generate more income. Bramley Moore was designed on this principle and is already too small for our season ticket waiting list of people who want to go. It's called "sweating the asset".
I think that will inevitably happen, especially if FSG sell and LFC see how much money United will make from non football events. I think a design along the lines of what Dastardly and Mutley planned will come back. Liverpool will have to move beyond 61k going into the 2030s that's a reality
All of that is correct but moving from anfield would not be good you lose all of the aura of the place. Arsenal have never recovered from their Highbury move last league title was won there . Big soulless bowl stadiums are not what Liverpool fans want. Goodison is a great ground and no one wants to go there it’s part of what’s kept Everton up
So, knock down a stadium that's 50% less than 10 years old and cost hundreds of millions of expand, leave behind 130 years of history, and build an enormously expensive new bowl to add 15,000 seats? That's not a sensible suggestion, my blue friend.
I’ve had a season ticket in the kop for nearly 40 years and the current kop never was a great build (the original kop was awe inspiring) but this is even worse with the 2 recent expansions, it’s now the smallest stand in the ground and very underwhelming.
You have explained the issues very well ... That is why Everton have chosen to move and will be at the "Helm of the City" ... Liverpool could have done that, but now it is to late!.
In my opinion Liverpool have had the opportunity to relocate, but instead decide to remain in a stadium that cannot be expanded to 70 or 80, 000, not to mention their pitch by UEFA standards is too small meaning they cannot host a CL final or why they were dropped from hosting the 2028 Euros. And uniquely Anfield is literally in the heart of a housing scheme as it's all houses that surround Anfield. Obviously very useful for the neighbours who can walk to the stadium on match days compared to those who travel miles worldwide to watch their team but simultaneously the noise isn't ideal for those who want a quiet environment.
I will say if Liverpool wanted to rebulid the Kenny Dalglish stand. They would only need to bye 3-4 rows of houses. Then they coulf do something i am not sure what the proper term is. But where they buy the sky. Essentially they pay the residents of the houses effected by a taller stands shadow over their houses. they dont bye the properties. But essentially they buy the air. A lot of developers who are building tall buildings do this when they are building tall buildings near small buildings. This allows Liverpool to build a taller stand and the owners of the properties get compensated but keep the homes
We can go to 69,000 without any further infrastructure changes. Please listen to Mo Chatra podcast. 61,015 still isn’t good enough for a size of our club! It needs to be bigger than Utd’s! FSG went with the cheaper option as usual! The Kop looks out of place now & is dwarfed by other 2. Skd needs to be redone to match main stand. Getting to final of CL generates the club £100 million + Being in Top 4 is minimum for the owners expectations, the Liverpool we know only existed to be number 1! But to move to this mythical “like Barca or Bayern…” 80,000 stadium we’d need to move (like Everton did…Goodson was in a similar predicament except they hadn’t invested $$ in what they had…so was easier for them to abandon the old $***those and move…and then nearly go broke trying to get the new place built!) Remember that many European (and American) stadiums benefitted from direct government funding, and Bayern were close to going broke with the cost overruns on their stadium - they needed to sell off 30% of the club to investors to pay off the banks! UK governments don’t work like that - football clubs are private (and generally wealthy) businesses, UK governments won’t spent taxes on them.
I see no issues with expanding the Kop atleast, removing and building a new part of the road behind the Kop does not need to be too costly it is only around a 1-1,5 km that need to be curved. And not a lot of buildings behind the kop either. The new road part can be build ahead of removing the old part of the road, making it less impactful on the traffic.
Liverpool fan since 1974, but I could be talking out of my a**e so please excuse me. I get that removing the seats in The Kop would preclude international matches but surely, other than that (small) consideration, making it standing again a) is cheaper and quicker to accommodate, b) protects the Anfield atmosphere (well it actually increases it) and, c) could conceivably be targeted more at the local community who I'd argue are increasingly being priced out of football. I say this too as someone that can no longer afford to go given the massive rise in ticket prices + demand.
If you would really have to, you obviously could extend it further, but I highly doubt that there will be spent even the tinyest thought on in the next decade. But they could use the time and already get in contact with the people living in the houses close buy, to check if they would sell, so they can be demolished for the extenstion. All that and similar stuff could already be done, because if you start only when you also start to plan the extension, it would delay it by years probably And I dont think you would have to make the kenny Stand as big as the main stand, maybe it would easily be enough to "only" torn down 2 rows of houses, by completely remove the parking and make an underground parking lot there. Then there would probably a stand of the size of the road stand fit perfectly. Kop a whole different story, it will probably most likely just get a modernization at some point without increasing the capacity alot
If anfield should be expanded, the best way I believe would be considering safe standing on the Kop. I know it’s a touchy subject for some but it would be the best way of expanding capacity without disrupting the lives of those living in the neighborhood. I’ve heard a lot about the disruption with folks lives when the new main stand was built. I’d rather have this club still have a connection with its surrounding community rather than a lot of the mass-corporate stuff a lot of other clubs have gone to over the years.
Bottom line fsg need to invite in foreign investment (oil money) and sell up a percentage of the club. That new investment will pay for all the expansion and regeneration required asap like it did for city . If you wait for fsg to act it won’t happen for the next 10 years by then United will have been in their new 100k stadium for years and move ahead of Liverpool again
They knocked down the sports place in the park like 20 years ago, They have claimed alot of land around the ground they do not use. Love the club but, they do lowkey take the piss out of the locals. We were forced to move home because of their ground expansion years ago and that house still stands. They completely just claimed and shut off anfield road, you can't even drive from one end to another now.
I love what they’ve done with Anfield but we do need a min 80,000 capacity stadium. You’d think that before expanding they would have looked at expanding the entire ground and modernising it. The stadium is in a terrible location. Wouldn’t be surprised if in 10 years we decided to go and build a new stadium elsewhere
No we don’t. That’s megalomania talking. It wouldn’t improve the atmosphere, and the local community would be crippled on match days by crowds that big.
Been a Liverpool fan since the 70's and go every now and then. A new stadium of at least 80,000 would cater for the genuine fans like me that can't get a ticket. I last went at the start of the season and the amount of foreigners who could afford the high prices was alarming. United since at least the late 90's couldn't give a stuff about the real fans, they want the people from China, Ireland and the like, let's hope Liverpool don't go after the dollars and forget about the real fans.
@@sukhjotesingh9613of Course they do they're American business people what do you expect that they pump money in for the love of the club. They don't give a crap a about the club they simply want a return on their investment like any business. It's too expensive to rebuild a stand behind the goal which would be 1)more expensive than Anfield Road end because of the road 2) it's traditionally a locals stand and there would be uproar if ticket prices went up and 3) because of the cheaper tickets it would take longer for the stand to repay itself and make the investment worthwhile for FSG

If there was any intention of transport to Anfield then the new Anfield road stand would be the easiest choice to be expanded even more than now. So it's just not going to happen any time soon. Anyway Anfield now looks amazing with the new stand so lets just enjoy that for now!!
It really is a shame the Kop and the Kenny Dalglish Stand can't be expanded further. The Kop especially feels really small compared to the other stands.
Until the roofline of the stands are of equal height, the stadium will look untidy. On the positive side, the stadium is as good as it can be considering the restraints. Job well done by all👏👏👏
I love Anfield, but this is why we should have moved & build a new ground on Stanley Park. Would have given us room to develop around the ground, these owners pulled on fans heartstrings to stay & took the cheaper route to build two hospitality stands + increase the value of their asset when they sell up. It wasn't a decision made in the long term best interests of the club in my option.
Yawn, what is with this obsession with expanding The Kop? It is more about quality than quantity. You want the loudest most passionate supporters on The Kop, not a bunch of tourists. Also I'm pretty sure the club makes more from TV revenue, sponsorship and merchandise than from attendance.
With TV revenue peaking, match day revenue is becoming more important. Ineos know this and we need to think ahead to more capacity too. And more capacity means more money spent in local pubs, hotels and more jobs.
even the upgrades are short term. Like old Trafford. The infrastructure is coming to the end of life. So in 15 years or so. Liverpool will have to decide whether to do an extensive rebuild which is effectively tearing it down and rebuilding on the same plot (like barca are doing and real essentially did) or build a new stadium on a new site. These stadiums are old. There is only so much you can do with the structures.
Let’s face it long term Liverpool really do need a new stadium one that isn’t limited and hemmed in. It should be 75k capacity with further expansion of 80k plus. You only have to look at Super clubs like Real Madrid with their 85K stadium and Camp Nou, which will have a capacity of 105k. If Man U expand it is is said to be 100k.
If this was the case, they should have saved their money on the last 2 expansions and gone ahead with the Stanley Park plan. It will be about 20 years before they even consider this. This isn't football manager where you can just build a new stadium to maximise attendance and ticket revenue. When you've already spent a lot on 2 stadium expansions and you're already bringing in 61,000 a match, it doesn't make financial sense to build a completely new stadium. The increase in ticket sales isn't worth it. It's bigger than the Emirates ffs.

@@sukhjotesingh9613 and £50m on a training centre so in fairness to FSG we've spent about £250m on infrastructure which is not an amount to be sniffed at. Everton are building a new stadium for £750m and it is 8,000 seats smaller than Anfield so the extra you would get in ticket sales probably isn't worth the cost of a new stadium. You can't say we get £100m we otherwise wouldn't have had due to the Champions League runs because that money gets spent on transfers, salary increases and bonuses. Plus our standard budget is probably scaled with the conservative estimation that we at least reach the knockouts so it really isn't just an extra £100m.
We will soon be state owned within the next 10 years IMO and a new stadium will be built. John Henry sniffing around the Saudi investment fund is suspicious and there is no smoke without fire. Whether you're for against state ownership you can't argue with cities owners investing far more in the local community and infrastructure than FSG have ever done. Sadly I think this is the way football is heading. For good or for bad?
For the Kop extension i wonder would it be possible to divert the section of road outside it with an underground tunnel just for that section and then expand the Kop onto the road 🤔
What Anfield actually needs is elongating the pitch to fulfill category 4 UEFA standards to let it hold events like FIFA games, UEFA EURO matches, Champions League finals, etc. Regarding the capacity - you can always add another tier
If you looked from above there is plenty of room to build a 100,000 seat stadium..no houses need knoxking down ...but the whole stadium would need to be knocked down and anfield could be rebuilt just back and at an angle
Weak excuses, stadiums have been expanded in more difficult positions than Liverpools. There are various ways around it, there is just zero appetite. Combine this with the constant lies about the reopening of the train station on the loop like, and "improved" transport links for the Anfield area, its all nosense. We saw these issues coming 30, 40 years ago and still decided to expand Anfield instead of taking up the option of Stanley Park. . While I love the stadium, it was a ridiculous call to limit ourselves to 60k capacity, which will once again lead to us lagging behind other clubs in the league and the world who will build new modern stadiums or expand with impunity.
I don’t agree with this at all, we need to find a way to increase the capacity of the ground or we risk stagnation and decline in our long term success
They must buy the houses and build another deep high and long stand. Lift capacity to 70,000 people at least. If I had billions to spare, this project would be on the way
@mattg5878 expended stadium is the community, a few people can gladly move a bit further, and they should offer their homes themselves for the longterm benefit of Liverpool F.C. !!!
What about the waste land between the ground and where the Alisson mural is? Why don't we move the club shop there and knock the current one down so we can expand the Kop? Who owns that land?? The Kop looks tiny now, it isn't imposing anymore.
As explained in the video, the stanchions holding the Kop roof would need completely changing the structure of the stand, not to mention there's an A road, a pub, a church, in the way. Not remotely logical or cost efficient - basically as explained in the video.

As a Malaysian, ill go to Anfield once per year. Since the stadium are expanded, its easier to get the tickets. However ive been called in Twitter as Asians who is not liverpudlian/kopites. Apparently im part of the reason of poor atmosphere. To be able to go to Anfield from Malaysia, i have to spend almost £2000. THeres no need to expand if the Kopites hates foreigners.
There needs better transportation to the ground full stop. New train lines should be built anyway. Additionally, if Liverpool are to continue to be a powerhouse we need at least 80,000 seats
I wonder why they didn't fill in the corners of the two new stands, that would have added thousands more seats, and also they don't need to take the kop back over the road they could take it higher, and make the seats steeper, something similar with the centenary stand.
Anfield looks daft half in the nineties half in the present day. There’s no way they’re redeveloping the Kop and the Kenny stand in the next thirty years. Big mistake not to rebuild on the docks when we had the chance, now everton have build a bog standard modern archetype stadium there.
Always thought you have to be a nutter to live next door to any ground in any country. I remember the residents caused a fuss 20 years ago but the club pays over the odds and it allows you to move out of anfield. Its a win win but people like to cause problems really
For 125+ years the answer is actually very easy........ Why not built an entirely new stadium (85000 +) seems fair. If money is not an issue then 100 000 seems doable.
Anfield needs to do the other two stands which if done with similar increases to others would take it to new 80k capacity. The expansion just looks 50% done to me as the other two stands just look completely out of place next to the amazing new ones. It’s a shame to leave it 50% complete and let’s be real them neighbours will have to be nicely compensated to be moved out which is fair and if clubs the size of Liverpool willing to spend hundreds of millions of pounds on football players for short term success I have no idea why they can’t pay 10s of millions buying up the houses and property around which is that market value for that location to expand Anfield to 80k capacity and have it a massive club for capacity for next century or 2. FSG think of the economics and short term not fine for them financially but let’s be real if Liverpool were owned by the Arab owners they would of done it and been in planning for it 10 minutes after take over.
I think Arab owners would soon discover that building in England is a different game entirely than in the UAE or KSA. In those countries there is a lot of desert which belongs to the ruling families. In England we have densely populated cities where people have lived for many years and have ownership rights. Furthermore we have democratically elected local authorities who take planning decisions based not solely on the business interests of the mega-wealthy but in the interests of the people who elected them. And in any case, the poor transport infrastructure in Anfield has trouble coping with the current capacity. If LFC want a bigger stadium, they need to move to a new site by a railway line and motorway.
@@timdarby1969 if they were able to get the houses and demolish them behind the main stand then they can achieve it for the sir Kenny stand too. If you have enough money to buy up them houses for them people to probably get 3x what it’s actually worth and buy another house in a nearby location better in standard and still have plenty of money left over then it is more then possible. I’m not sure you see what happens in london and how them property prices rocketed as well and that’s also from Arab money buying new builds and developments and causing crazy jumps in prices from Qatar group etc and when a new build one bedroom flat they get goes for a £700k and then someone has a 3/4 bed house in the area which is freehold what you think happens with the price of that? It ain’t like that in Liverpool yet with prices of properties but could be in 10 years time with what’s happening in inflation so best try to get them houses now while it’s still fairly cheap.

When it was a decision between developing Anfield or building a new stadium, they didn’t say develop “half” of Anfield. Also, could the kop not be made steeper to expand the number of seats, it’s a very shallow incline currently and not as steep as the new Anfield Road stand from what I can tell.
You could make the Kop steeper but I doubt that for the cost involved, the number of extra seats would be worth it.
Really good analysis fella. 👍🏻
Surely The club could buy the empty land on Bagnal, Baltic and Holman street and build new houses for everyone on skerries street thus enabling them to knock that street down and gain the space they need, the residents would be getting a brand new house built to todays spec and only having to relocate a few hundred yards. And the club could buy up any other bits of spare land the other side of Walton Beck road, build a new church and relocate that and any other businesses that are still trading and they have the space to do the kop.

Plus, if you're over 6 feet, you have zero leg room
That's against UEFA and FIFA regulations so you could not play any international game in Anfield.
If we could copy the German system where it’s a mixture of railed seating and terracing, I believe the Kop could add 25% of spectators on its current limit - similar to how the Yellow Wall terrace in Dortmund’s stadium.
it can be made higher aswell adding even more seats
Anfield WILL be expanded in the not so distant future that's why the club are buying up properties around the stadium the kop is next

Works starts on the new Kenny Dalglish stand at the end of the season
No the houses behind the Kenny haven’t been purchased by the club that’s a blatant lie

@@DCC114 They have. Work is starting at the end of the season
Except, it doesn't.
The kop needs to be one of the most impressive stands in world football, it looks crap now with its low roof and the two newer stands. The SKD is so old and uncomfortable that something has to be done. Personally I can't see anything happening stadium wise for at least decade unfortunately.
10 Properties along Walton Breck Rd have been bought by a Company based in Jersey, this company is owned by some of the LFC directors !!!
when the Centenial (now Kenny Daglish Stand) was built in early 90s - the club had bought a few streets of run down terraces behind the then existing Kemlyn Road stand to get the room.
Spot on mate ! Your new stadium is 🔥
Bang on mate from a red
All of that is correct but moving from anfield would not be good you lose all of the aura of the place.
Arsenal have never recovered from their Highbury move last league title was won there . Big soulless bowl stadiums are not what Liverpool fans want. Goodison is a great ground and no one wants to go there it’s part of what’s kept Everton up
So, knock down a stadium that's 50% less than 10 years old and cost hundreds of millions of expand, leave behind 130 years of history, and build an enormously expensive new bowl to add 15,000 seats? That's not a sensible suggestion, my blue friend.
It is ridiculous Liverpool expanded Anfield with all the issues you are talking about. Everton was clever. New stadium and issue solved!
Getting to final of CL generates the club £100 million +

The ideal world would be
- a great stadium already (tick)
- on the edge of downtown / city centre like, say, St James Park (nope)
- next to great public transport (nope…Liverpool city doesn’t have ANY metro / subway / tram system anywhere, never mind near Anfield!
- with room to expand, not hemmed in by housing and roads (nope)
Despite all that, it’s still pretty good.
But to move to this mythical “like Barca or Bayern…” 80,000 stadium we’d need to move (like Everton did…Goodson was in a similar predicament except they hadn’t invested $$ in what they had…so was easier for them to abandon the old $***those and move…and then nearly go broke trying to get the new place built!)
Remember that many European (and American) stadiums benefitted from direct government funding, and Bayern were close to going broke with the cost overruns on their stadium - they needed to sell off 30% of the club to investors to pay off the banks!
All that and similar stuff could already be done, because if you start only when you also start to plan the extension, it would delay it by years probably
And I dont think you would have to make the kenny Stand as big as the main stand, maybe it would easily be enough to "only" torn down 2 rows of houses, by completely remove the parking and make an underground parking lot there.
I’d rather have this club still have a connection with its surrounding community rather than a lot of the mass-corporate stuff a lot of other clubs have gone to over the years.
the famous Vicente Calderon had stands build above road which looked pretty cool
Bottom line fsg need to invite in foreign investment (oil money) and sell up a percentage of the club. That new investment will pay for all the expansion and regeneration required asap like it did for city . If you wait for fsg to act it won’t happen for the next 10 years by then United will have been in their new 100k stadium for years and move ahead of Liverpool again
i’ve read that the kop can be expanding using its current base and made steeper and higher that surely has got to be the next stand to upgrade
I think they'll move eventually. We need a 80 000 stadium minium.
No we don’t. That’s megalomania talking. It wouldn’t improve the atmosphere, and the local community would be crippled on match days by crowds that big.
I agree. I've always thought Otterspool would be ideal. Land a plenty and nice scenic location by the river.
they could have built new as Everton have done with their fantastic new ground but instead ended up with a odd mismatch of stands

I last went at the start of the season and the amount of foreigners who could afford the high prices was alarming. United since at least the late 90's couldn't give a stuff about the real fans, they want the people from China, Ireland and the like, let's hope Liverpool don't go after the dollars and forget about the real fans.

We saw these issues coming 30, 40 years ago and still decided to expand Anfield instead of taking up the option of Stanley Park. . Yes, imagine people not wanting to be forced out of their homes. Annoying bastards.
@ imagine having a home surrounded by drunk football fans twice a week. The club pay over the odds for you to upgrade areas
