The Truth about 7PRC for hunting

  • Set it and forget it? This is the truth about 7PRC for hunting - it’s amazing in my opinion.
In your opinion has the wait for this caliber been worth it? 175 grain bullets at 3000 feet per second with very high ballistic coefficient means this thing is crazy good at putting down large game! Here's the terminus zeus action, grayboe stock, ckyepod double pull, Athlon optic, triggertech trigger, etc. Let's see how well it groups at distance. #huntingrifle #7PRC #precisionrifle
*FYI the zero stop on the Athlon can be set to zero so it doesn't go past your zero when dialing down.

That’s a sweet setup. I Went with the 6.5 CM first, followed by the 300 WM, then the 300 PRC, the 6.5 PRC and finally the 6.8 Western.
The 300 WM will outshoot them all but the 6.8 Western is my go to hunting gun.
Next project is to upgrade the 6.5 PRC with a heavy 27” barrel with a 7.5 twist and see how well that shoots long range.

If it shoots well enough I'll play around with some longer 500 to 1K yard target shots, but mainly my hunting leaves me at 300 yards or less. I just want the option of being able to shoot longer range targets, but still have a good local hunting rifle too. The action they use I don't recall,. 20" proof research carbon wrapped barrel, and ag composite stock. So far the exact 175 eldx ammo is 2825 fps. He's in the same boat collecting brass from the ammo to load for it, really great shooting rig Pricilla (PRC) is.

Nice video and content. The gun looks great and shoots great, I see :) I am more of a 300 win mag guy but if I was buying a gun now I would consider 7mm prc. I have an "old" sweadis Carl Gustav Mrk II in 300 win mag with a 65 cm Walter Lothar barrel and Swaro glass on top z6i 2-12x50 - shooting 5 cm high at 100 m with 165 grain ttsx. And it just works every time:) I have had great luck with this setup on big game (seal-deer-moose). I live and hunt in Norway and have we variable conditions/situations so it can be tight and it can be that you have to shoot far. But if it is just wood-lands I hunt in, then I use 9,3x62 Mauser and a 247 grain TOG/Brenneke bullet. Those to setups work great. Greetings from Norway :)

Fantastic shooting rifle! You can’t complain with those groups at all. I do want to say it how it is though. That ammo is advertised to get 3000 fps with a 24” barrel. You’re using a 29” barrel to get those velocities. Given roughly 25-40 fps change per inch of barrel length, out of a 24” barrel that’s velocity of 2875 fps down to 2800 fps in a very rough estimation. That’s a very slow lot of ammo. I am excited to see how your handloads do.

@PrecisionRifleNetwork the rifle is beautiful imho, I do wonder though if too long a barrel would suppress velocity slightly too? Very nice video of things that are well over my pay grade. If it were my rifle if you have the barrel shortened, I would have it threaded and even consider a tuner-brake or just a good muzzle brake. I have an EC-Tuner brake on my 7mm PRC in a much lesser package than yours. One more in my pay grade. Again, nice video.

The zero stop has a small allen heads that you need to loosen and turn until it hits the tab then tighten them back down. If done correctly there is no over travel and it’s a solid wall stop.

The 7mm PRC is what I’m considering for my rifle upgrade. I’m currently shooting a cheapo Remington 710 model 270, but want to build a forever rifle. 7mm PRC seems to be the best all around North American hunting option on the market right now. I’m thinking Savage 110 Ultralight…

I’ve got that scope on my 6.5cm. It’s good, definitely worth the money. They are running $700 on EuroOptic right now I believe. I didn’t like the MIL reticle at first but I do like it alot now. On the flip side, those velocities are pretty slow for a 29” barrel and I think a barrel that long defeats the purpose of the 7PRC anyway but good shooting.

My proof carbon 26” prefit was averaging 2890 fps through the initial rounds down the barrel. It should speed up after some more break in. This ammo shoots okay imo but won’t be shooting game at longer distances with it. I’ll get some hand loads ready for that.

Great video! I'm still torn between 7 PRC and the 300 PRC. I have done a lot of bench shooting over the years, and I can handle recoil. I also run with a brake and/or a can, so the recoil not being a primary issue, is the juice worth the squeeze to go to the 300 PRC? I will be handloading after I run some factory stuff once I actually decide and build the gun.

    • @PrecisionRifleNetwork
      @PrecisionRifleNetwork  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

sorry for the delay, just now seeing this. Really comes down to context or what you're going to use it for. Inside of 700 Yards, and for hunting, as an example; I don't think there's much difference honestly. The difference is going to be felt recoil. 7prc will have less.

  • @timjohnson2731

You can re-set that zero stop so its perfect. Read the instructions. You take the turret off, loosen that set screw on the brass outer ring , turn the ring until it hits the stop on the brass ring below it, and tighten the screw down.

Unfortunately the 7 PRC has not made its way to Australia yet. The 300PRC is gathering momentum in sales finally and some good rifles are starting to show up on the shelves. The 7PRC is identical performer as the 7 Rem Mag. If you use the same hunting bullets as the 7RM it will perform perfectly on game. The only dif. is the 7PRC has a shorter/fatter case and can use longer bullets without seating them as deep as in the 7RM.

    • @b4goutdoors861
