    I used to drive by Halco tuning in. Y truck, and would regularly stop and have a chat, he was a genuinely nice fella, I was 21 then, now 43 and have just bought my first xs650 chopper, I've waited all these years, this film makes me happy and sad, a man very sadly missed, and the 860 he made scared the shit out of me, what a bike,

    To bad Tony Hall passed away in 2004. Meanwhile the XS650 booming proved Tony right : the XS is still alive and kicking, more than ever before.

    I've got one of these in my shed with the 880 in it . The number plate reads " Halco tuning the XS650 people . I've had it ten years now and intended to flat track it . For sale on ebay soon as we have sold the house and are going into rented so we can do a self build . I have all the original parts plus a spare set of barrels and a brand new wiseco big bore kit . It is a matching numbers custom . Memories of my youth .

    It's a great bike and engine, because it's main influence was a german vertical twin called a Horex (Horex had been making vertical twins since 1932, predating triumphs efforts by a year or so) and that's why it doesn't look much like any British vertical twin ever made. The over head cam idea was a German one as it relates to this design.

    Back in the Day the XS 650 would torch the XS 750 - 850 all day long. Great mill and quick!

    I had one back in 1979 it was a great bike, didn't handle brilliantly but a workhorse. I had Girling rear shocks and a lovely 2 into 1 side winder. The best model was the early 650 Special with wire wheels and the rear light on the mudguard. Shame Yamaha didn't bring a new version out with the new XSR 700 twin engine.

    funny you think with the retro sales going up yamaha would re-intro it ..but with efi and updated brakes ...would sell easy the sr 400 is just to small for some and no power .. this as a 750 or 850 would fit right in the current market..

    Wow, that's moving! RIP Doctor XS! I remember so well this shop and also the XS club at the time (for me in the mid '90s) I got his big-bore but still all in pieces in the cellar hoping to put it back together after this summer. Does anybody have the contact of Rob his mechanic?

    • @mslattery8710
      @mslattery8710 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm afraid I can't help you with Rob's contact details. FYI: As far as I'm aware, Heiden Tuning in the Netherlands are the only dedicated XS650 specialists in Europe. They supply a range of big bore kits and a complete range of accessories for the model. They also build and sell complete engines.

      @@mslattery8710 Heiden tuning sure is THE specialist, in The Netherlands anyway, and that's where I call home.
      Bought my first XS from him in 1996 and the second, which I still own and ride, in 2010.
      If Jerry doesn't have or knows, it doesn't exist.👍👍

    Sadly Halco no longer exists, due to Tony Hall's demise, He had a viable business as a specialist for XS650's which had a growing demand due to the availability of american imports into the UK, needing restoration. Someone in the UK must have seen the potential in the continuation of this business? Maybe someone out there can respond and inform where XS650 owners can go for specialist service and parts.
