    Good generalized info but the steps to opening a Licensed Mental Health Behavioral Stabilization Child Caring Institution in the most states are as follows:
    1. Check Zoning in the City of choice
    2. Study State Policies and Procedures
    3. Submit Site Plan Review to State
    4. Submit Site Plan to City Zoning
    5. Environmental & Health Inspection
    6. Fire Safety Inspection
    7. Develop Program Statement
    8. Develop Operating Policies & Procedures
    9. Draft Resident Record System
    10. Retain CPA for Annual State Audit
    Etc, etc

    • @Askadella
      @Askadella  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Correct! Great addition. The video would be 10x longer if included. The steps you gave will help ensure that your home meets all necessary requirements and standards for operation. I would recommend staying organized and keep thorough documentation throughout the process to facilitate approvals and inspections as well! Thank you for contributing!

      I love this energy Amber. That's what it's all about, great positive environments create positive impacts. Make sure you have a structured, activity-based day program that give them the chance to achieve goals, feel and become more independent. Board games are really good for those who have autism, but I can also recommend you have jig saw puzzles, light exercise plans, sensory experiences like "guess the bird sound" or 'blind tasting competitions", etc. Keep me posted on how you go. I'm excited for you! Thanks for watching and leaving me a comment. - Adella 😍

    I literally have everything figured out beside if I should do a llc or c corporation. I was going to do a nonprofit but since I’m doing it with my sisters I want us all to benefit from it. But thank you for this video!!!!!

    • @Askadella
      @Askadella  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Of course, I'm glad you found the video helpful! When deciding between an LLC or C corporation for your group home, it really depends on your specific goals and needs. A C corporation is a separate legal entity that can issue stock and has certain tax advantages, but also comes with more regulations and formalities. An LLC, on the other hand, is a more flexible and simpler structure that allows for pass-through taxation, meaning the profits and losses of the business are passed through to the owners and taxed at their individual tax rates.
      In terms of running a nonprofit versus a for-profit business, there are different advantages and disadvantages to consider as well. Nonprofits are tax-exempt and can receive grants and donations, but are subject to more regulations and limitations on earning profits. For-profit businesses, on the other hand, have more freedom in earning profits and making decisions, but are subject to taxes and may not be eligible for certain grants and donations.
      I would recommend speaking with a business attorney or accountant to fully understand the differences and which structure would be best for your specific situation. Best of luck with your group home!
      Best,
      Adella

    • @Askadella
      @Askadella  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I think it's important to hear her out on any possible challenges or difficulties, just so that you should be aware and then decide on your own.
      My best friend owns a mental health group home, and it's not always the easiest dealing with the residents. You also have to be very dedicated to the business and well-being of the people who are living there.
      Lots of people have very successful group homes, her group home generates $45k a month.
      Just make sure that the resident's quality of care is put number one. Everything else will fall in place.
      If you didn't already buy the $5 group home plan, here's the link: payhip.com/b/bLYE
      That is super helpful when organizing and starting a group home. I believe you can do it.
      Let me know if you have any more questions!

      @Askadella  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your kind words! I’m glad you liked the video. Look for areas with demand for group homes. Check zoning regulations to ensure properties can be used for your intended purpose. Explore various financing options, including traditional mortgages, VA loans (since you’re a veteran), or government grants specifically for veterans or group home operators. Also, Consider starting with a smaller property to gain experience and build a reputation before expanding to larger homes. This approach can help you learn the ropes of operating a group home effectively. If you have more specific questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask!

    • @Askadella
      @Askadella  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Hi Tatarose, please see the answers below.
      1. Yes, if you are certain you want to start a group home, legally registering the business is the first step. If you are not sure, do all you research first and then come to a decision.
      2. Once you register the business you can do it at pasosdeals.com/mycorp... choose an LLC or S-Corp and choose California as your state. Always check with your state for special business licensing requirements. Los Angeles may require a " transitional housing license / permit" that you need to obtain. You can get that here: www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/childrens-residential/how-to-become-licensed
      3. The official group home business will be registered with the Department of Healthcare Services for California. The link to the applications and guidelines are here: www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/Pages/HealthHomesProgram.aspx . Read over the provider guidelines and also download the toolkit. If you have any questions, you can all them directly.
      4. As long as you own the home and the building is in your name or the business's name, you can start. You cannot run that kind of business out of someone else's property.
      5. You can do elderly or children. The amount of people you can start with depends on how many bedrooms you have in the house. Call into the Department of Healthcare Services for California to verify the requirements for having one or more beds or clients per room.
      I hope that helps,
      Adella

      Hi, a great place to start is to download the business plan so you can get the basics of what a residential facility takes to setup / manage. Then you'll need to call or contact your STATE's department of health to discuss the specific requirements for licensing. Every state operates differently.

    What are some important factors to consider when purchasing or leasing a location for a group home?

    • @Askadella
      @Askadella  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Alpha,
      Thanks for your question. Zoning Laws: Check if the area is zoned for group homes. Ensure it's accessible to public transport, healthcare facilities, and other essential services. Review crime rates and overall safety of the neighborhood. Adequate space for residents, including common areas and private rooms. Assess the condition of the property-any repairs or renovations needed? Consider all costs, including lease/purchase price, utilities, and maintenance.It's vital to carefully evaluate these factors to find a suitable location.
      Thanks for asking!

    I heard you mention involving a professional attorney in the process. Wouldnt that get costly, is there a way of preparing contracts yourself?

    • @Askadella
      @Askadella  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Sakunta,
      Thanks for the question. Yes, hiring an attorney can be expensive, but the legal complexities of starting a group home make it advisable to get professional help. While you can draft contracts yourself using templates or software, you risk overlooking important regulations or liabilities. This could end up being more costly in the long run if you face legal issues. However, some costs can be mitigated by using an attorney for the most complex issues while handling simpler tasks yourself. Always remember, legal advice is critical for a regulated industry like group homes.
      Let me know if you have anymore questions.
      Thanks,
      Adella

    • @Askadella
      @Askadella  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching and commenting! I'm so glad you found this information helpful. Starting a group home can be a rewarding and challenging experience, and it's great that you and your husband are considering it. My best advice is to make sure to do your research and understand the legal requirements and regulations in your area. It's also important to have a solid business plan in place and to seek guidance from professionals in the field. Best of luck to you both in your journey to start a group home!
      You can and should also google "group homes" to see what comes up in your local area as far as other group home business owners. You'll usually see 5 to 10 listings in the google local listings. You can have a look at their websites and get an idea of the types of people they help, sometimes fees are also listed.
      Thanks for watching and commenting! Best wishes, Adella

    I know this differs between the focus group for crratibg group homes and time, but what is an average time frame for starting a group home? 1 year? 2 years?

    • @Askadella
      @Askadella  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Great Question! The average time frame for starting a group home can vary, but typically it takes between 1 to 2 years. Here’s a breakdown:
      Research and Planning: 2-4 months to research regulations, develop a business plan, and secure funding.
      Licensing and Permits: 3-6 months to obtain necessary licenses and permits.
      Finding a Location: 1-3 months to find and secure an appropriate facility.
      Renovations and Setup: 2-6 months for any needed renovations and to set up the facility.
      Staff Hiring and Training: 1-3 months to hire and train staff.
      Marketing and Admissions: 2-4 months to market your group home and admit residents.
      So, on average, it could take anywhere from 1 to 2 years to fully start and operate a group home. Most it's 9 to 12 mo.
      Hope that helps!

    How does the Family First Prevention Services Act affect profits? Is it true that they’ll only pay for 2 weeks if you have a group home for children?

    • @Askadella
      @Askadella  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Markeya, that act is exercised on a federal level and has a lot to do with providing guidelines to the state's on how they pay the group homes and the licensing standards. Every single state is also regulated differently, so I cannot speak to that. The best thing to do in this case would be to reach out to your department of health for your state and ask them about the payments for group home business ( if the FFPSA reduces payouts for any reason) . I hope that helps. If you don't know who to contact, let me know your state and I'll post the department's contact information for you. Best, Adella 😍

    Of the gazillion websites and videos I've seen, this has been the most helpful. QUESTION: I'm doing an Assisted Living home for developmentally impaired for 8-12ppl. That means 24hr/ overnight staffing is required. How do these places do scheduling?? I'm considering having 1 staffer live on-site but given how hard it is to get a tenant out in my jurisdiction, I dread the idea. Can someone share the various staff scheduling options they've seen regarding staffing at 24 hr homes please?

      @@sharrellbrown1850 Thanks! So far, I'd mainly heard 10-12 hr shifts.

    • @Askadella
      @Askadella  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey S.P. , I'm glad to hear that you found the video helpful! As for your question about scheduling for a 24-hour assisted living home for developmentally impaired individuals, there are a few different options that you might consider:
      Traditional scheduling: This involves creating a set schedule for each staff member, which would likely involve rotating shifts so that everyone has a chance to work during different times of day. You'll need to make sure that there is always someone on site to provide care, so this may require hiring several staff members to cover all shifts.
      Split shifts: Another option is to have staff members work shorter shifts that are split into two or more parts, with breaks in between. For example, someone might work from 7am-11am, take a break, and then work from 3pm-7pm. This can be a good option if you have staff members who are available for certain times of day but not others.
      Live-in staff: As you mentioned, having a staff member live on site can be a convenient option, but it's not always feasible. If you do choose this option, be sure to carefully consider the living arrangements and compensation for the staff member, and make sure that they are comfortable with the arrangement before moving forward.
      Outsourcing: If you don't want to manage staff schedules yourself, you could consider outsourcing staffing to a third-party agency. This can be a convenient option since the agency would be responsible for hiring, training, and scheduling staff members.
      Ultimately, the best scheduling option for your assisted living home will depend on your specific needs and circumstances. Consider reaching out to other assisted living home owners in your area to learn more about their staffing strategies, or consult with a professional in the industry to get expert advice. Best of luck with your project!

    How to handle medication management and ensure residents receive their required medications?

    • @Askadella
      @Askadella  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the question,
      Managing medications in a group home involves key steps:
      Make sure staff are trained in medication management. I would hire a CNA or a Nurse if you have the money to do so to manage this. Keep an up-to-date Medication Administration Record (MAR) for each resident. Have it digital and printed copies on file. Before administering, check to make sure it's the right resident, right medication, right dose, right time, and right route. Always record when a medication is administered in your record keeping system. Securely store medications, and check expiration dates regularly. Watch for side effects and communicate any changes with healthcare providers and family. Also, keep any and all medications in a safe place where no one can tamper with it.

    How are you supposed handle financial management, billing, budgeting, and resident fees?

    • @Askadella
      @Askadella  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Sanjay,
      For managing the finances, I would recommend using an accounting software for tracking expenses and revenues.You can use Square. Here's a link to signup www.pasosdeals.com/square . You can use it also to generate invoices for services and medications. You should ideally create an annual budget for the home and review it monthly, so you're not overspending. Make sure you clearly outline your fees in resident contracts and keep records of payments. Use a mix of manual oversight and automated systems to manage these financial aspects efficiently. Always keep clear and accurate records.
      Let me know if you have any more questions.

    So you said the start up cost can range from about 10,000 to 15,000 does that include leasing expense , furniture maintenance, floor plan etc?

    • @Askadella
      @Askadella  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Correct!
      Here’s a rough breakdown of how you might allocate a $15,000 budget for starting a group home:
      Leasing/Rent: $3,000 - $5,000 (for initial lease payment and security deposit)
      Furniture and Equipment: $2,000 - $4,000 (basic beds, seating, kitchen appliances, etc.)
      Renovations and Modifications: $1,000 - $2,000 (ramps, safety rails, minor repairs)
      Licensing and Permits: $500 - $1,000 (fees vary by location)
      Initial Supplies: $1,000 - $2,000 (food, medical supplies, cleaning products)
      Insurance: $1,000 - $1,500 (liability and property insurance)
      Staffing: $2,000 - $3,500 (initial salaries, training costs)
      It's best to prioritize essential expenses and look for ways to save, like buying used furniture or negotiating lease terms, to stay within your budget.
      I hope this helps!

      Yea, one tip would be to search for a home large enough to house enough residents. So, choose a place with space for the workers and the residents. Good Luck, Adella

    How should the scheduling of shifts go for 24/7 coverage?

    • @Askadella
      @Askadella  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Shahbaz,
      Thanks for the question. For 24/7 coverage in a group home, you can use a rotating shift schedule. Most people schedule their CNA's, LPNs, or Nurses like this:
      8-hour shifts: Three shifts per day (morning, afternoon, night).
      12-hour shifts: Two shifts per day, often preferred for continuity of care.
      Ensure overlap during shift changes for smooth handover and make room for breaks and emergencies. Update the schedule regularly and communicate it clearly to all staff.
      Hope this helps,
      Thanks for watching!

    How do residents, their families, and staff to continuously improve services and operations?

    • @Askadella
      @Askadella  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Khan,
      To generate feedback, use surveys or regular meetings to collect feedback from residents, families, and staff on what can be improved. Be sure to get Regular Reviews: Conduct periodic assessments of care plans and operational processes, adjusting as necessary. Be sure to train your staff: Keep staff up-to-date with the latest best practices and compliance standards through ongoing training. Make sure to keep Open Communication and maintain open channels for grievances or suggestions and act upon them promptly. It's important to perform internal and external audits to identify areas of improvement. By combining feedback and formal reviews, you can identify gaps and opportunities for enhancing both services and operations. I hope this helps.
      Best,

    How do specialized care and state funding impact the earnings you mentioned?

    • @Askadella
      @Askadella  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey LsBeng!
      Thanks for the question. For Specialized Care: Offering specialized services like mental health support or geriatric care often allows for higher billing rates, increasing revenue. For State Funding: Depending on your jurisdiction and type of care provided, your group home may be eligible for state or federal funding, grants, or subsidies, which can substantially supplement earnings. Both specialized care and state funding can have a significant positive impact on a group home's financial viability.
      I hope this answers your question,
      Best,
      Adella
