We recently stood up a 501c3, nonprofit organization. We also own 7 acres of land. Our plan it to build an affordable tiny home community for homeless veterans with mental health services, a community center, and a greenhouse for the community. It's been a challenge to find capital. Faith of a mustard seed and hard work will get us there...with lots of patience.
Just received my tax exempt letter for my new nonprofit, "A Safe Haven for New Beginnings, Inc. (Prince George's County Maryland) to assist displaced women providing a pathway to self-sufficiency through mental health counseling, vocational and life skills, as well as providing shelter, transitional housing, and rapid rehousing services. Need all the help I can get, and this was very informative. Thank you, and may you continue to grow.
Wow! This sounds exactly like the nonprofit I'm about to start up. I pray that you get all the help and funding you need. Best wishes on your journey ✨️🙏
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I came across this Chanel at the right moment. I had to quit my job as a teacher last month because the principal refused to accommodate my unpaid leave request to attend my graduation. As a first-generation grad, I wasn’t going to miss that. I recently graduated with my master's in Mental Health and Wellness not knowing what step to take but I love helping and teaching others. I did a bit of research and thought the best way to go about it was to start a nonprofit organization. Thank you so much for the time to explain everything. I appreciate it!
These conversations from you amazing humans has helped me more so in confidence, hope, and leaning on faith. Extremely inspirational and motivating. I am recently in remission from a 3 year flare up of my autoimmune disease that had me bedridden. I gave in and took chemo pills from my rheumatologist, and finally have begun to have energy, be able to function normally on a daily basis, be able to stand for more than 30 minutes at a time, my brain fog is beginning to clear up, it goes on. But my career was coaching and teaching acrobatics, dance, gymnastics, and cheer. Now I have no choice but to change careers. No one will hire me with my resume full of what most don’t understand is actually management and communication skills. No matter how I word my resumes, it looks like just a dance teacher. So I have been discouraged. After watching and listening, I have a different perspective and a renewed courage. I have to be resilient and determined. And also, let God. Thank you. 🙏🏼
I’m a college student in NC and I just want to say Thank yooou🙌🏾❤️. I want to start a non profit and write a book lol so this was sooooo informative for me! I’m so happy I clicked on this video! I love all of y’all’s black faces!
There are actually two separate applications for 501c3 nonprofit status. The 1023 application and the 1023ez. The EZ is a shorter application based on projected income. It less time consuming and doesn’t cost as much. The board of directors to start could be 3-5 people depending on the state. The number of people are defined in the bylaws. You can also get support through memberships like the NAACP. Most cities have local foundations that they can seek out for support. You can also lose your tax exempt status if you don’t file the appropriate documentation.
I’m so glad you all covered this! In our field we define trauma as any stressful life event that is overwhelming, chronic or unpredictable. I’m so glad she shared this story because many undiagnosed parents are raising children who then struggle with codependency and self identity as adults. Behavior is the communication children. We can always look at the behavior and tell if children are experiencing stress, anxiety or sadness.
I was able to get my nonprofit set up in a little more than a month with the assistance of a phenomenally young lady who runs a successful nonprofit and also helps others set up their nonprofit. It was a little pricey, but well worth it. It saved me months of headaches and time because I did not know where to start. It seemed like it was a lot, but she got it all done and in a little over a month and we have nonprofit and our website, but she is wealth of information, not only pertaining to the nonprofit but so many other things that are tied into it.
LISTEN TO ME I AM LITERALLY.....fuuuuck I can’t even type because I’m gonna do way too much. I’ll be back! I NEEDED THIS !!!!! I love y’all man for real ! I’ll be on y’all show in the future ! Thank you guys so much !!!
As a non profit founder, she is on point, one of best videos I’ve seen clarifying small details, and how they vary & apply on local levels. Also, it’s important to note most Foster children do have family, many times they’ve just been separated, temporarily. Parent may be incarcerated, sick or struggling financially. Thanks for the video ♥️
Taking out a private student loan is actually beneficial because after 7 years or whenever the statue of limitations runs out in your state, you don’t have to pay on it any longer and it wouldn’t affect your credit. Great episode!
38:00 just so everyone knows when she says 40% is standard for operational costs, this doesn’t mean no employees salaries are covered by the 60% program costs. It took me a while to understand this. Some employees, including the CEO, might be considered “operational costs” if they are the ones doing the direct service work. So if the mission is to plant trees for the environment, and the CEO is the one planting the trees, their salary can be considered an operational expense.
This is some great information. The NBA, NFL and many other major sports industries are also nonprofit but they make billions. It would be great if you guys can do a episode on how their structured to even do that.
Thank you for sharing the gems especially on the non profit requirements. I feel more confident. I appreciate the good questions and outstanding dedication to help inform us.
I enjoyed the session and all of the valuable information provided. Sorry that I didn't get to attend the Houston seminar. I only heard the tail end of the program early Saturday morning 8/31. But it did encourage me to visit your media outlets and subscribe! Keep the momentum going!
This was some great information! Thanks so much. I’m in the process of trying to turn my organization into a nonprofit it’s LLC right now and we are located here in Baltimore Maryland! Thanks so much for this great information🙏🏽
Thank you for this! She spoke about a non-profit Kicks4thecity.org based in the major cities that provide shoes to the homeless during the holiday months. Gave me a direct connection to understand what she was referring to. How to apply her information! #ThankYou
Great conversation but I had to fast forward to get to the part I actually wanted to hear about - non-profit IDD / Mental Health industry... thanks for the input though.
But everyone who has a degree cannot always get the job done. There are Lots of self made millionaires out there, and wealthy people who took to the books, internet to teach and train themselves
Thank you for sharing the program on TH-cam. I am very passionate about assisting those who are deserving and has limited access to essential services such as healthcare and other social services. Our organization is a registered NGO in Kenya, focusing on health. If you are interested in working in East Africa, particularly in Kenya, let's stay in touch and explore how we can collaborate and make a difference together. Thank you very much.
She definitely on point with all the facts!! This video real and raw and I appreciate it. It definitely helped me and I’m sure it helped several others! Definitely subscribing🫶🏾❤️

Kudos to the interviewers for asking permission to speak on her personal traumas versus forcing for the content of the video!
