I’m currently deciding between the 28-70mm f/2.8 and the 24-70mm f/2.8 L for travel and portrait photography. Up until now, I’ve been using the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II EF and have been really happy with it, but it’s a bit cumbersome for travel. I used to rely on my nifty fifty while traveling, but unfortunately, it broke, and Canon can’t repair it. In a way, it’s a blessing because I’ve always wanted a mid-range zoom lens with superior image quality. I’ve seen plenty of reviews for the 24-70mm, but I can’t seem to find any detailed comparisons between the new 28-70mm f/2.8 and the 24-70mm. I know the 24-70mm L series lens has an edge in terms of build and quality, but I’m curious if it’s worth the extra price and weight. Would love your thoughts on this! Keep up the awesome work.
On some youtube videos you can see that 28-70 F2.8 image quality is practically the same as 24-70 F2.8. I buyed the 24-70 F2.8 RF 10 months ago, and I don't think it's worth the extra weight (and price). 900 gr only the lens it's a lot of weight to use it on a travel.
I got that lens and took it out to shoot (strangely enough) in similar weather conditions as yours. It was an overcast and rainy day, but I got a lot of wonderful street and panning images (my lens was attached to the Canon R6i). Like you, I totally endorse this lens.
@@EverythingCameFromNothing a bit sharper wide open but the 50 sharpens up nicely as you stop down. I’d say the 28-70 still looks sharper at 2.8 than the 50 at 2.8 but not too much of a gap unless you really, really look. The 50 1.8 is a terribly underrated lens in my opinion. It punches well above its weight for the price. To be honest, this zoom seems to be on par with my rf 24-105 L in image quality. Just with more background blur because of the 2.8. This left me pleasantly surprised.
@@unloadedone that’s awesome. Thank you!! I know what you mean with the 50mm getting much sharper when stopped down to 2.8 or more! I’m glad this new 28-70 is at least on par with it. You’ve convinced me to buy it 😃
Thanks for the review. Very helpful. I am considering this lens. I am a beginning photographer. I have a Canon EOS RP and an R7. I can't shell out $2400 for the L, but I was thinking about buying a used EF 24-70 L 2.8 and a converter. I can get a decent used one for $700. Any advice whether I should go that way or with the new 28-70? Would appreciate your advice. Thanks.
How do you think, is this lens better than 24-105 f/4 L? Or maybe not better but at least similar in terms of image quality, bokeh, sharpness and so on?
I'm also eagerly waiting his full review. In the meantime, the-digital-picture just did their test shots, and the center is razor sharp at all focal lengths. Cropping 70mm will be almost as sharp as some f4 zooms @ 105mm! Only drawback is weak corners at the wide end, and stopping down doesn't help much. Maybe better focusing at infinity?
@@cameracentretv Same here :). And it's nice, because rain makes different vibes bon your photos. This lens is definitely gem! Thinking about custom protection sleeve for this case.

Will it be ok for astrophotography?
Just got mine and love it. Very sharp and AF is fast. Wonderful shots btw.
Glad you like it!
How would you compare the image quality with the RF 50mm f1.8? 🤔

Having the extra stop is always nice, it's genuinely a great option I would have it over the 24-105mm f4 to be honest!
Definitely worth a rental. Great review

I wonder how fast the autofocus works compared to USM motors 🤔
Is it only enthusiast lens or a pro lens?
falls in a kinda inbetween place to be honest!
Could you compare this with the 24-70 F2.8 USM L please.
