However, many places will sell parade boots (gen 1s) and many online marketplaces sell gen 1s. many people purchase gen 1s due to their sounds, or the ease in polishing. regular boots handed out to every cadet are found harder to polish than gen 1s.
I'm curious, why are they all Sergeants or Flight Sergeants? This brings back memories from long ago when I was an Air Cadet in Edinburgh and we were the drill champions year after year.

I then went to ITDC (Introduction to Drill and Ceremonial) in Vernon British Columbia. Now I am back as a level 3, ready to try out for Drill team commander again. Wish me luck!
Under Chapter 3, Section 3-6 of the Canadian Forces Manual of Drill and Ceremonial. It states the following "MARCHING AND HALTING IN QUICK TIME 12. As illustrated in Figure 3-2, on the command QUICK MARCH BY NUMBERS, SQUAD - ONE, squad members shall: a. shoot the left foot forward one half pace, toe up; b. strike the heel on the ground first and keep the toe pointed directly forward; and c. simultaneously, swing the right arm straight forward and the left arm straight to the rear, waist high. " Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to swing your arms breast pocket high (or parallel to the ground in the UK and other places like Hong Kong). However, it is encouraged to swing your arms "breast pocket high" during Basic Military Qualification in the CF to enhance "agility" as described in the 201.

On this command the front and rear ranks stand fast, and the centre rank responds as follows: a. Odd numbers take a 50cm side pace to their left, followed by a 75cm pace forward with the right foot, before returning the left foot to the position of attention. b. Even numbers take a 50cm side pace to their left, followed by one 75cm pace backward with the right foot, before returning the left foot to the position of attention.
Excellent show! The timing is solid, and it includes several movements I've never seen before, very cool to see. Got to ask though, is it normal today or within the Air element to "cow kick" like that? Knee only half way to hip height and lower leg pointing to the rear. I would have gotten yelled at more than a dozen times if I did it like that...before I aged out of RCACC (Army) almost 20 years ago. But then my drill team only made second place in regionals.
This is a reply to a comment over a year old; but hope this answers your question: as a member of an Air Cadet squadron, it seems very common that cadets nowadays "cow kick" more than different elements. I have watched my friends who are in different cadet elements and they do not do it as we do. I find that it is often because we care a lot more about the crisp, stomping sound you hear in these drill videos. Although these can usually be achieved with good parade boots without cow kicking, I guess it's been molded into the drill model. During drill lessons, they do encourage many practices such as the knee up 90 degree angle, and arms to breast pocket height and everything; however in the air element this is just to exaggerate the effect and during regular / ceremonial events, many people do not do this. Over the years I have been apart of my squadron, the cow-kicking seems very normal and when you DO follow the 90 degree knee rule, it looks awkward and out of proportion. I know it is far from being abnormal in other elements but I think it's just a practice that has been molded into alot of Air Cadet squadrons. FYI as well; I have seen many instances of air cadet squadrons not cow kicking. Maybe this is just based on the history as many recruits follow drill habits of their seniors 🤷♂
Timing is good. Very solid footwork. Could work on taking some of the bends out of the elbows and bringing arms breast pocket high. other than that very well executed
@@brianwong6195 Hips are not your waist. Many of the arms aren't coming high enough even for that. The widely accepted standard for parades in the CAF is also breast pocket height.
if it makes you feel better mine isn't the best either, I showed them this video for a drill lesson and their closing parade was MUCH better then the opening parade though!
Even in 351, the rest of the sqn isn’t much better off. Their drill team may be immaculate, but that doesn’t stop the ACs and LACs from bad drill and bad attitudes.
Sicurius0512 agreed, it does look lazy, but being a Canadian Air Cadet my self I do know for a fact that the standard for arm swings and lifting the knee has changed. For example before they changed the standard, arm swings used to have to be parallel with the ground but now has changed to 45 degrees, same with the knees. They probably have different standards for arm and knee height, my units standard for arm height is about up to the shoulder and feet are about one drink can off the ground.
My self seen a Drill team from Canada while I’m a JROTC cadet on the US for my is hilarious seen something like this, I know that this is another country and another type of drill and I respect that but at least for me this type of drill and this over exaggerated movements for drill are really funny for me, in my opinion it don’t even make sense. If someone want to explain the reason of why the over exaggerated movements go head please
If you could explain why you guys have to exaggerate the executive part of each command with a "Huh" sound, that would be great. Or why you guys always seem so lazy when you march. Or why you guys stiffen your legs when you do a sideways march. Why do you have to make changing direction while marching in column so complicated when you could just wheel. So on and so on. Our drill is supposed to instill discipline and agility into our service members. It's hard. However, what you're seeing is a cadet drill team. It's supposed to be aesthetically pleasing not practical. Think of it like a theatrical show. It's the same thing you guys do in your competitions. It's a contest between units to see who can be more synchronized, more disciplined, more 'showy' if you will. It's the most pleasing team to the judges that win, not the most correct nor most practical.
The fact that you are JROTC is funny. Your uniforms are not up to standards. Pants are not hymed leaving them sloppy, you click your boots or shoes together which is extremely funny, and when commands are called it's unbearable to listen to.
@@ralphc4266 I have you know my uniform is always up to standard freshly pressed, and hemmed, everything measured to a "T" I make sure all phases of preparation are taken. If I'm to be honest it takes me 2 hours every Thursday to get it 100% ready. So please don't speak for all and btw our drill voices are something each individual person has to perfect for them selves! So please don't be so broad

They're Cpls and above. They probably just wanted to set the standard slightly higher than ACs.

Agreed. I am a cadet and I must admit the CATO states that each stomp is exactly ninety degrees but they are very low. It’s not right but whatever
