    one of the best types of tools out there is one were you can click anywhere on the photo and it provides the swatch with hex code. There are chrome plugins for this. then you just hold your pencils up to it to get the closest match.

    This is a beautiful drawing and a wonderful tutorial, so relaxing to watch, I feel like I’m meditating :)
    I’m a beginner and I have a few questions if you don’t mind :)
    do you always add blue on animal portraits that are mostly black and white?
    I realized while watching your video that the movement of the hair is important with every layer, not just the final details. Is it the same with pan pastels, or you would add movement with pastel pencils over it? I am learning to use pan pastels and so far I feel it’s more like a velvety uniform result than with pastels you use but maybe I haven’t used them properly! :)
    And I was wondering if you always draw the face before the eyes? I tend to start with the eyes because I’m so worried to screw them up after doing the face 🫣. Is it a better idea to do the face first?
    Thank you very much!

      Thank you! Yes I always like to add blues in to make the black fur more exciting - you'll find glossy black fur is never just black it has blue/purple hidden tones and even some warmth in areas. I haven't actually used pan pastels so I can comment on that but if you can try and add movement even at the base stage so if pan pastels allow you to do this which I imagine they do then absolutely go for it. In terms of what area to start with first it's completely up to you - generally I do start with eyes or nose first but sometimes when I film for Patreon I work nose upwards. Loads of other lessons over on my Patreon if you want to learn more :)

    How do you know what is a cold area or warm area?

    • @emilymeicrossartist
      @emilymeicrossartist  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I usually compare the area to an obviously warm or cold area or colour (like a cold blue or a warm yellow). If it looks similar to something cool based then it's cold and if it's looking more similar to the warm tone then I know it's warm. Hope that makes sense. Most of it is is eye and experience as well!

    Hi. Can i mix colour pencils with pastels on pastelmat?

    • @emilymeicrossartist
      @emilymeicrossartist  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can work coloured pencils on top of pastemat paper and with pan pastel but I wouldn't recommend mixing them with pastel pencils or soft pastels
