Another good video mate. You've inspired me to get the spring hack going on my collection. Yours is growing super fast. Hopefully you're moving to a bigger place cos you're running out of room quickly.

Haha thanks, Matt. It's actually smaller... eeek! haha but we'll make it work. What's going on the chopping block first?

Glad you did a new video. Kinda enjoying your vids :) well, I purchased a Hoya Wayetii last week and even though the shipping was super fast (it arrived within 2 days) the plant itself arrived in a horribel condition. The soil was purely peat and super soggy so I had to repot it to check the root. Long story short, it had root rot and so i had to cut all the roots and reroot the plant… that is basically the only plant i am propagatin/rerooting atm. 😅
For Proping, i mostly use water, but for my hoya i wanted to experiment and I am using Sphagnum moss and the other cuttings i put in Coco coir + Perlite mix und put them in my prop-container under my grow light.

Hey Christian, cheers for dropping by :D Sorry to hear about the Hoya issues :( Hope it makes it.
What's the trick with propagating Hoya? I've only tried it once in the past and it was with a variegated Indian Rope which I bought then got home and realised it'd been snapped at the base. All of them rotted :(

@@petevsplants7516 the cuttings are doing fine and developing roots already. Leaves are getting more firm which is a pretty good sign.
I‘m sorry that your propagation didn’t work out. I am pretty new to Hoyas but from my own observation, some Hoyas, especially the once with fuzzy stems/leave are more difficult to root/propagate.
The thing what i find intriguing when it comes to hoyas are the way they grow. Sometimes they just dont do anything for months/year and all of a sudden you get tons of new growths.
When it comes to propagation cuttings sometimes rot due to some circumstances such as the Humidity. Or sometimes the cutting is just destine to die because it didnt come from a healthy mother plant, for instance.
I would give it another shot, if i was in your shoe ^^
Most of my hoyas I‘ve got are cuttings either from friend or from online shop.
The most satisfying hoyas in my collection right now are Hoya Mathilde and Hoya krimson queen who are thriving in my South facing window blasted by direct sun. I swear to god, i can watch my krimson queen‘s new leaves getting bigger and bigger every 2h 😁

@@petevsplants7516 also, Hoya cuttings can grow roots pretty much along the stems. You just need one node with a long stem for a successful prop! Id try with water first, if it rots, cut the rotting part and try with sphagnum moss.
For me, i would not try perlite another time as it is kinda difficult to monitor the roots without damaging it.
My australis lisa prop is rerooting for the second time, now in water. The first time was in Perlite but everytime i try to pull it out to check for roots, all the roots would easily get tipped of. Hoyas have very fragile and thin roots which is why it is important to be careful when propagating in Pearlite or sphagnum moss

Great to hear. Yeah, unfortunately, that was my first attempt at propagating hoyas and I had no idea what I was doing. I had it in my garage too and it was probably way too cold for them and I had them in a prop box hoping humidity would help (think it didn't haha), so they ended up rotting, but it's all a learning process.
Yeah, I'm definitely keen to get into hoyas in the future. I think I just need more time to spend learning about them before jumping in too deep. I'm definitely a sucker for those grey/blue splashy hoyas!
So, from "south facing window" and "direct sunlight" I'm guessing you're in the northern hemisphere? :D US, Canada or Uk?

    • @akoSi94
      @akoSi94 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@petevsplants7516 the best methode to learn is by trial and error. If you decide to buy a hoya, id recommend the Carnosa family as they are very beginner friendly. Very robust! Krimson Queen, Princes, pubicalyx and my favorite Hoya Mathilde. Though it is a hybrid between Serpens (a very finicky one) and Carnosa.
The cold was probably a reason for the rotting as Hoyas in general dont like temperatures below 10 degrees Celcius.
I am indeed from the Northern Hemisphere. Germany to be precise 😁

It's funny to me as a Canadian listening to people complain when it goes down to 10 to 15C , When it drops down to -30 -40 -50C then you have a plant problem 😁

hey Pete :) I absolutely adore you're videos. Greetings from Germany 🙋 it's actually very interesting to see, that you have so much of the siltepecana. Here siltepecana is hard to get and I got my hands on a few cuttings some month ago.
Maybe you can do a plant tour after your move into your house? I would love to see all your plants.
When did you start collecting plants? I started two years ago and it's taking over by now :D
Hope you are having a wonderful day

Danke, Liselotte! Yeah, I love seeing how things are so different in other parts of the world. I've heard you can get really cheap Monstera albos in Europe, but in Australia, they're still 100s if not 1000s of dollars. It's crazy. I'll definitely do a tour in the future :) My collections just currently a bit of a mess haha so I feel a bit shy about showing it whilst it's just on shelves. :D Thanks again!

@@petevsplants7516 yes there is a huge difference. I brought a Monstera albo cutting a few months ago for 50€ and it's beautifully variegated. Maybe you could film the tour video when you finished moving? I personally think that how the shelves look is not important. Have a great day:)
