How To Grow Indoor Live Moss Garden | Where To Find Moss + Moss Care Tips | DIY Moss Tray

  • Moss is nature's carpet and it is an easy plant to care for. In this video, I show how I made a live moss tray for decoration and a how-to grow moss in a pot.
    You can find moss outdoors in wooded areas or even in the city. Moss grows in most climates and should be no problem to find growing in shaded areas or on trees.
    Moss art, tray, or wall can grow indoors with no problem. To help your moss grow you need a few things: An acidic environment or soil, compact soil, an area with indirect sunlight, and moisture.
    Mist your most as needed and make sure it does not dry out. Once your moss is established in its new environment it will begin to grow. Moss grows very slowly so after a couple of months if needed and can trim the moss into the shape you prefer.
    Let me know if you guys have any tips for gathering and caring for moss :)

    Thanks for spreading the word about moss gardening. I know neighbours of mine thought I was strange for collecting it.
    It's far more sustainable if moss is used in dry shady areas of the garden than grass.

    I love this, but remember not to take moss from live trees, because the trees need those, and it's really hard for trees to regrow their mosses if their lose their base layer!

    • @solar0wind
      @solar0wind 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@nickledeepickle Do you have a source for that? Do all trees need moss? Or only certain species/genera? I never heard about a plant if I remember correctly that actually needs epiphytes. Epiphytes need other plants as phorophytes (carrier plants), but not vice versa. Epiphytes are even a small topic in the vegetation ecology exam I will write in a couple of days, so I just reviewed what I learnt about that. And if I didn't miss anything there was nothing about phorophytes needing epiphytes, much less trees needing mosses.

    Thank you for the video Lala! I’ve been creating several little beautiful scenes with moss but they’ve all been turning brown despite frequent watering and low light. You gave me a great hint as to why! I’ve been using tap water and I think that must be why. I’ll use filtered water from now on! Thank you so much. I’ve otherwise been creating great little scenes with the moss by planting baby ferns and micro ivy that has red berries during the right time of year. I also lay acorns here and there to complete the gnome-like scenes! So much fun! Thanks again for your awesome video! 🙏🏻😊

    This is a really good idea but you have to be careful when it comes to taking moss because moss takes time to grow and if you take large portions of moss from the patches you are disturbing the environment there is a lot of moss in forests or parks so you don’t have to be greedy with the moss patches just take little amounts of the moss at a time but this is pretty cool

      I would recommend starting with moss that grows near and around your neighborhood as they are more acclimated to the conditions in and around your house. Typically if you take from an established forest and bring it to a suburban or urban location its much harder to get them to acclimate and often will dry out or die off because of the air or water quality.
