$2K was a generous offer considering the amount of work you would've had to put into the deal, plus she would get a cleaned-out shed. Kudos for keeping your composure until you were out of earshot.

The only reason I can think that she wouldn't counter-- in her mind she didn't trust / believe you guys. Whoever she acquired the cases from probably told her they were worth a lot more. Clearly she didn't know what she had, which was a mountain of common junk wax.

I think y’all handled it the best way possible. It’s like a thrift shop near where I live. They somehow acquired a football helmet from some golf tournament that was signed (before I go on, warren moon was the only autograph on there that was the best) and since the helmet had no COA, I kindly but firmly explained that I (or any buyer) would have to get all these signatures authenticated to which she said “oh no, this helmet doesn’t NEED a COA because it came from (insert golf tournament name here) and it’s worth a ton” and she ended up saying $200 so i said ok. We get to the cash register and she said “ya Know what. I made a mistake. I’ll need at least 1k for for it” I laughed out loud and left. But was pissed OFF. Not because i didn’t get it but because it was so childish and disrespectful

Your a natural story teller, interesting all the way. Most of us would have been just as upset or more so. Your offer was more than fair and she might have done you a favor not countering since the profit would be too low for the work/time involved. Since watching your vlogs I have regained interest in baseball card collecting. Take care and keep up the good work.

I have been a prepper for decades; I actually sold a lot of cards back in the late 80's to buy weapons. Around 2017 I figured I am set on the knowledge and supplies and got back into collecting sports cards. I was shocked at all the new product and didn't know what the high-end cards were, but I figured it out quick enough watching the prices on eBay. I bought thousands of Mahomes RC's and retired early off the sales last year. I watched your videos from the start along with others just to get a feel for the market and when to sell. This video where you got mad is funny in many ways. I watch and argue on the prepper videos way more than the sports card hobby and my big sticking point with preppers is all their bugging out videos and community prepping. If SHTF, they aren't going anywhere, and hundreds of alpha males armed to the teeth living together might last 2 days, lol. It's common for exertion and heat exposure compounded with frustration to bring out the worst in people. It's easy to make a plan in the air-conditioned rooms at home, well fed and no lack of sleep, lol. If SHTF, I'll give the human species 20 days tops, before they start eating each other to stay alive. Day 20 without food is when the higher functions of the human brain start shutting down and cannibalism begins.

I have had this happens quite a few times . Most times it has been elderly women (some of it seemed to stem from Loneliness and some from a complete lack of understanding of the actual value of the product ) . With the advent of social media and online selling platforms this has increased. The fortunate element is it’s not a 2 hour drive each way plus 2 hours of labor. It’s usually a few messages back and Forth and quickly you can see there is no light at the end of this tunnel .

You had the right to be angry. My worst card deal was back around 2000. It was an online trade on a popular sports card website. The guy I traded with claimed to own the largest Jeremy Bonderman collection on earth. I posted 2 Babe Ruth authentic bay cards, he offered to trade a nm 1957 Topps set, but the mantle was poor condition. He sent some images of the other cards, that were not his actual set. I agreed to the trade, and the 1957 was in poor condition, the entire thing. He ghosted me when I complained, and he was a moderator on the site, so they just blindly took his side.

Great story. And a good lesson that reminds people, treat people with respect and decency. This includes respecting peoples' time and following a selling etiquette that respects buyers and potential buyers. An easy way to build a bad reputation quickly if one is buying and selling things is to disrespect one's customers like this couple did to you guys, which involved potentially knowingly false-advertising, not counter-offering after all your work, and being very dismissive of you guys.

Whenever an owner makes a claim that triggers travel of some kind, you’d think sharing a few photos of said inventory would be a reasonable thing before such an investment of time. Sorry, Chris - but thanks for sharing!

Hopefully you left the boxes outside the shed for them to put back themselves. That would have made me feel a little better.

I was meeting a guy to look over a collection for a proposed sale. Apparently lots of graded stuff. 3 hour round trip. I arrived and nobody was home. Called his cell and no answer. I waited in the driveway for close to 45min and finally left. Left a voicemail telling the guy I waited. I got an angry voicemail back the next day telling me how I'm unprofessional all I had to do was wait. I was then blocked via phone and social media but not before he posted on several message boards telling people I could not be trusted..some people.....some people...

After the counter I might have asked her how she came up with the years she was claiming she had. She obviously knew what she had and obviously manipulated the situation to get peeps out there. Clever girl. I would’ve been pissed to Chris.

I think you dodged a huge bullet not purchasing those cases even with today high prices. But would have been very frustrating. I’ve dealt with buying huge collections. They’re always picked through.

In short.....I'd been upset too. It's similar to your parents telling you we're going to the circus this weekend, and then at the last moment you are told we aren't going after all.

man that is one the main reasons what i dislike about the hobbys are the transactions except when it happens to me its vice versa. In my experience the as a seller the buyer would ask what price iam looking for and, after giving a number they would make reason why its not worth that amount. However they would not give an offer and expect me to just keep dropping the prices. it should go both ways

I would of left all the boxes outside of the shed, she can put them back in and understand how much work it was.... no offence but that's awful of her to do to someone.

Good video and story!! I feel your anger, not finding what seller said was there, dissatisfied to say the least. Time is money, but In the end, I think you dodged hard sell on your end. Junk wax, not worth it!!!

reminds me of how Micheal Scott yelled at Jan , " do you have idea how it feels to have 3 Vasectomies take a toll on my body?!!" ( the office) ....also I think they just bated people to see who would fall for the " ill buy it all " with no real winning cases , sad day in card history

If you left the cases out in the yard, that would have been some degree of karma due. 🤣

I have a similar story - I went to house a woman bought in an estate. She found a crap load of cards in binders that she wanted to get rid of. I went over there and of course they were picked through and mostly junk. However, to pad my collection of stars I made her a very nice offer for 3 binders for $50. Mind you, nothing really worth value at all. She turns to her boyfriend and he says "No" we will just keep them. Funny, the fact that they weren't even his to begin with. They got them for free. Come to find out I got a hold of the kids that sold the house when their Dad passed to them and they told me that, Ya.... They picked thru all the cards and took all of them away and left the crap cards behind because they didn't want to clean the house up and sold it "As Is". PS - They did sell some cards to me...The good ones.

to some people saying he lowballed her obviously havent bought out a lot of collections. .. 50 percent offers on cards I think is actually high.. now that you can make 15-25 bucks an hour at basically any job you have to factor in your time and selling fees as well.. any time i get push back on a deal i just remind them that they will be spending the next 4 months of weekends trying to sell their stuff on ebay and going to the post office every day... they then either take the cash or call me the next week begging me to haul it away..

Hopefully the fantastic story makes up for the pain that day! Good on you for sharing it, Chris. I’ve been waiting on this one since the AZ/TX Snowman mentioned it. So…if it were me, I’m not sure I would have offered anything. Would it have been just as rude/disrespectful/infuriating if the buyer made no offer and basically said ‘I think you should hold on to them’ to the woman?
