My Italian wife, Eva, never eats breakfast. Why? Because in Italy, breakfast is hardly a "thing" and, at most, consists of a sweet pastry. Which is why I thought it might be time to introduce her to America's favorite sweet breakfast: a donut (or twelve).

Lets all be honest here. Harper just wanted Eva to start making donuts for him.
So funny!
And they look heavenly!!!
I mean yeah
I was getting ready to write a donut to try before watching the whole video.I saw your comment and thought of course this is the point lol and yeah hers looks great lol
I WAS WONDERING WHERE HE WAS GOING WITH THE SUGAR IN THE DONUT BRANDS HE CHOSE LOL
No honey dip?! Boston creme ❤️
"Change the oil!" -- I teach classes on foods, and one time I researched donuts. I called a local shop and asked how often they changed the [partially-hydrogenated, refined] oil. "About every two weeks." Yikes. No wonder Ava balked. Her "taster" has not been corrupted from a lifetime of food fried in old, rancid oil.
In Italy they would actually be in jail now o___o
That's disgusting!
2 weeks-old exhausted oil??? People must be insane if they eat something fried in that mess!
holy smokes.... and the fact that I'd still have them after knowing.... I'm dead definitely hahaha
You've said it all. Most of the fried junk food's made like that. Same thing occurs with asian famous "nems", here in France, made from frozen industrially processed stuff... and it stinks, of course. Just try fresh one home made to get what's the difference...
Driving two hours to test a donuts is the most american thing I saw on your channel, if I drive 2 hours, I'm outside of my country (Belgium) :D
Before covid, I used to drive into Los Angeles from my city right outside L.A. which can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 4 hours to get something decent or interesting. It can either be a lot of fun or a complete nightmare depending on if the food is worth it or if there’s a crazy accident on the freeway or if half the state catches on fire while I am down there.
😂😂 2 hours for donuts 🍩 is just insane!!
100 miles or kms is a lot to Europeans but 100 years is a lot to Americans/Canadians.
ahahahahah!
Hi neighbour! You drove for 2 hours, welcome to the Netherlands! :D
I’m always so impressed how Eva knows how to make everything. If someone in Italy asked me about American food I wouldn’t know how to make every recipe like she does. I just love this couple.
12:46 Italians don’t Google, they call their parents for instructions
My partner is Italian and she does both. Epic win!
This is so true
And they have the best answers, period.
Eva knows what she's doing. And when she doesn't, she asks.
But she'll still do an excellent job, so long as it's not one of Harper's experiments where you cool down pasta once, microwave it, cool it down a second time, and then microwave once more.
I don't know where I'm going with this. Anyways, kudos to Eva.
Yes I do!
Being a father who raised a daughter who learned how to cook from me, I love that you called you father for advice. 💕
I love Eva calling her parents cuz she’s stuck on part of a recipe. I would call my mom when I forgot an ingredient too
I'm glad Eva can still ask her mom about stuff. Wish mine was s till around.
I would look on TH-cam and find Akis.
As an italian I can understand only a little of Eva's phone call!

Eva is a riot. Love her accent and hand gestures. Mama mia!
An italian tries donuts for the first time, also known as: Harper enjoys dozens of donuts for 15 min straight.
I'm totally with Eva : I love strawberries but I hate everything with strawberry flavour
I join the club ...
Simple answer: everything with strawberry flavour has most probably never seen a strawberry and it's instead flavoured with some chemical made food flavoring and for certain things they work really well but it's really hard to replicate fresh strawberrys
I feel the same way about peaches
because i don't know in the US but in Italy it doesn't taste like strawberry at all it tastes like some sort of caramel strawberry filled with more sugar ugh
I'm similar but with banana flavour.

Should have stayed with basic raised glazed yeast doughnut, a classic well before Crispy Creme.
I was thinking the same thing, the classic donut.
Dunkin Donuts vs Krispy Kreme?
Bro give me the neighborhood small business donut shop. Less variety but much better quality.
True I do not like Dunkin have not tried Krispy.

Dude, that's absolutely insane that the best donut ever ended up being made in the Italian way. LMAO. Now I'm definitely trying some potato donuts!

The look on your faces when Eva said 'Potato Doughnut'. I burst out laughing. Priceless!
I'm from Texas and I am not a big fan of Dunkin Donuts. Krispy Kreme is ok, but I prefer our local donut makers. Always so much better. I'm with Eva about the bacon on the donut. ugh.
I have a few friends from TX who say you can't beat the local places. If I make it that way I am trying the donuts.
I don't live in Texas anymore but I never really ate donuts when I did because I always got the kolaches at the donut shops. By the way, you can't find those outside of Texas. No one you talk to outside of Texas will have a clue what you are talking about.
Local is better than these disgusting chain shops no matter where you go, to be honest. Heck, home-made is far better too.
Same. There is a donut shop near my house called Q Donuts, and they have the best donuts and sausage rolls I've ever had since Krispy Kreme.
Round Rock Doughnuts is the GOAT, but Shipley's is great from when you're not in Round Rock
Thst "bad fried" flavor is from modefied shortening that they use for frying. Reason why it's bad for you is because the shortening stays solid at room temperature (it clogs the artery if you eat too much of it), and they use this shortening because the donuts will not taste greasy. If you make your own at home using regular cooking oil, it always taste different.
Hardly anyone uses shortening anymore. I'm sure Dunkin Donuts doesn't.
@@tony_25or6to4 actually, they banned use of modified vegetable shortening in California for chain restaurants 10 years ago, but I don't know if they have such laws in the east coast. I mean mcdonalds was using beef fat in their fryer oils until the Muslim community sued them.
@@jaeyocho I managed a McDonald's in the 80s. The beef tallow made the best fries. McDonald's, and almost all other restaurants, changed to vegetable oil for health reasons. Muslims don't have a problem with beef. There was a lawsuit in the 90s from Hindus and vegetarians because McDonald's was using beef juice to flavor the fries to make up for the missing taste from the tallow.
@@tony_25or6to4 oops, I knew it was one of those group of people. But yeah even mcdonalds didn't change to vegetable oil until there was a law suit. As a vegan I wouldn't expect a major chain to fry their potatoes in beef fat.

We have something called "Frittelle" in Italy that sort of resemble donuts. It's fluffier, wider and more flat with more air inside, and dunked in regular granulated sugar
C'è anche il vecchio adagio: Non tutte le ciambelle riescono col buco: meaning not always things go your way..........
There are many different varieties in Europe :-) here in the Netherlands we have ‘oliebollen’ they are a ball shaped, fluffy, crispy on the outside and we also dunk it with powdered sugar.

In fact, even in Italy we have Donuts, or at least very similar in shape. I happened to taste one in America and I also felt the dough was different from the one we use in Italy, obviously the quality of the oil and how often it is replaced is another important element to determine the quality. However in Italy they are called "ciambelle fritte" or "bomboloni", the aesthetic characteristic that differentiates them from the American ones is that in Italy we are used to putting simple granulated sugar in them, we do not use the icing as I see in the American ones. But one thing I can say, for both Italians and Americans, it is the quality of the ingredients and the oil on which they fry that make the difference.
