Every year i hope there is a player in the NCAA that plays offense like George Gervin. There never is. The smoothest player to ever play the game of basketball. I wonder if Gervin had any idea of how Great MJ would be? Much appreciated, I loved watching Iceman play. Pure magic and so entertaining to see his flair. To be honest, I forgot about G. Shame on me and the NBA for not showing more of his highlights. Players in the days past didn't take games off to rest and play when they felt like it,they played every game. That's why Lebron James will never be in my mind the Goat. Too much credit. Great, but there's no comparison to Michael Jordan. Hands down.

MJ is humble, he learned what he needs from other stars, Gervin is one of the best MJ could learn from, MJ learned many things, but not only moves, he learned how to be a leader, to have courage and he became more mature after watching and spending time with guys like Gervin.
lot of people tend to forget how much about the game Jordan knew. He wasn't just the GOAT, he learned and was relentless in the mental aspect of the game as well as his physical tools. Also Iceman finished out his career as Jordan's teammate.
The guy who played next to Gervin in the ABA days was a great player. James Silas, before he hurt his knee was making a mark of his own. They called him 'Capton Late' because of his game winning shots.
I am really conflicted when it comes to George Gervin. For one, I absolutely love and adore players who developed a truly unique and personal style of playing basketball. Gervin is second to none in that department. But I have a problem with players who only play offense. Comes play-off time that comes to an end right quick. And Gervin is player number 1 or 2 (the other one is obviously Pistol Pete) on the All Offense/No Defense All Star team.
Gervin played defense early in his ABA/NBA career and was pretty decent. Obviously, he was no defensive stopper. But when you can score the Ball like Ice, you get yourself 4 other defensive stoppers. Remember, @ 51% career FG percentage for every 2 shots Ice took, he got you 1 bucket.
As I said, this might cut during the regular season but there are no titles without being defensive minded, no matter how good you are in offense. When GSW won their last title and played Denver in the playoffs, for one Curry played stellar defense and GSW targeted Jokic on offense with great success. He cleaned that up and Denver won a title. (obviously, it helped to have key players back). There is no star or franchise player who was indifferent towards defense with much playoff success. Take Barkley, a beat on offense, a minus defender. If he had turned himself into plus defender the year they played the finals against the Bulls, he might have had his title. @@citizenscapital2458
I grew up watching Gervin. He was a one man wrecking crew! I'm 56 now,and MJ's the only other player I've watched that you knew who was the best player on the court.... period.
I never understood when the Ice Man played with the Bulls when Michael got hurt that year and the Ice Man carried the team throughout the season. When Michael came back and they played against the Celtics in the playoffs but the Ice didn't get much time when him and Mike should have been the starting guards. John Paxton a good shooter should have been coming off the bench .What was Doug Collins thinking?
Yeah it's nice to see Jordan doing this interview of Gervin, but you know Jordan didn't want Gervin and complained to the Bulls organization when he found out they made the trade for Ice. Jordan said in the article he wasn't too happy about it. You could probably still pull the full article up on Google somewhere. See Jordan knew how raw Gervin was, and he thought by Ice coming to the Bulls, he would steal his shine. I believe if Jordan and Gervin played on the court together when Mike came back off that injury in the playoffs against the Celtics they would at least won two games instead of getting swept. I don't think they would have beat the Celtics but the series would have been a lot more interesting. Doug Collins kissed Jordan's a** and knew Mike didn't like George coming to Chicago his team and his town so that's why Doug didn't use Gervin in the playoffs like he should have just sucking up to Jordan.
Umm Doug Collins didn't coach that 85-86 Bulls team that was Stan Albeck...Doug came into the fold as coach for the 86-87 season til he got replaced for Phil Jackson in 89 after the Bulls lost to the pistons in the ECF.
Another player who had the best potential was Michael Antonio Britt (October 7, 1960 - December 25, 2017) was an American professional basketball player who was selected by the Washington Bullets. Popularly known as the Flying Pencil. Would've been interesting, like Len Bias to see against The GOAT - MJ. As we have proven many times, NBA and drugs don't mix well at all. Wasted talents.

Every year i hope there is a player in the NCAA that plays offense like George Gervin. There never is. The smoothest player to ever play the game of basketball. The only player who in real time many times appeared like he was performing in slow motion highlight mode. Never be another player like him.
Kevin Durant closest thing but taller and an emphasis on 3s
@@educatehour ...kinda sorta, but Ice was known for his amazing creative but super smooth shots that he somehow made look like it was easy to do. On you tube put in Bernard King vs George Gervin game. Gervin shoots falling out of bounds and behind the backboard it goes in but somehow ice made it look like everyone else can do it when nobody can.
At 2:06 that flick of da wrist was sickening!!!💯
He pretty much invented the finger roll.
@@waynewalton8798 Actually no. He said himself that he borrowed it from Wilt an modified it
@@waynewalton8798 Actually Wilt Chamberlain invented it, but Gervin had more variations of it.
@@vrokhlenko Yes sir that's correct. Wilt Chamberlain did invent it. Well they called it the finger tip roll when Wilt did it.
George just had more variations of it than Wilt, Connie Hawkins, and Dr. J.
I think mj would've had to work hard vs Dr J or ice in their prime ,longtime Celtic fan
I strongly agree with you.
Watching this ole school players like the "IceMan" makes it harder to watch today's NBA!!
Hands down.
Kudos to MJ. He did a great interview and humility learning from another great. I like “this” MJ.
Two of the most proflic efficient scorers in NBA History. The Ice Man!! One of the Greatest of All Time.
Great look at an incredible player and legend!
Two of the most proflic efficient scorers in NBA History
Legendary never forget there was always a before.
unsung underrated unknown unfortunatly
This man with Dr. J always made every move look so finessed.
Ice Man. Finger roll from 25 feet. All smooth and in the groove. Ole George can shoot anything steph can. Except ice can dunk. With power
And they say the players were plumbers. 6'8" off guard. You don't see that much in today's game.
Exactly!
those who say that, dont know better.....
Only kids would say that.
Gervin still had game when he played with the Bulls. Don't know why he retired.
Gervin had (2) 40 pts games that last year with the Bulls.
He got payed more to play in Italy
Gervin said Jordan treated him like shit on the Bulls

Legendary interview with the young GOAT …George Gervin had no idea MJ would become the GOAT
Not even close!
Coolest player ever
Doc and ice the koolest ever.smooth.
3:02 MJ laughs when Iceman tells him he knocked someone out and got ejected. Jordan mentality on display.
Great documentary!!!
I use to love that show. A lot of sports legends have hosted the show.
MJ is humble, he learned what he needs from other stars, Gervin is one of the best MJ could learn from, MJ learned many things, but not only moves, he learned how to be a leader, to have courage and he became more mature after watching and spending time with guys like Gervin.
Yes
Yet it is pathetic about how they are both laughing about Iceman kayoing an opponent in college.
....the guy who got clocked in college by The Ice Man, maybe he should have ducked 🤔
Michael Jordan did a great interview with the Iceman!
lot of people tend to forget how much about the game Jordan knew. He wasn't just the GOAT, he learned and was relentless in the mental aspect of the game as well as his physical tools. Also Iceman finished out his career as Jordan's teammate.
Nobody ever could stop Gervin
6'8 guard Yikes! He had that finger roll. Spurs never have wack guards Gervin, Ginobili, Johnson, Murry
Nothing can be further from the truth. Gervin was a pretty good defender. He is second behind only Jordan for blocks in a season for a guard.
@@RatedRex1 Your right I looked him up, and avg a steal and a block a game for 9 straight seasons
His finger-roll was like Tim Hardaway's 2step...anywhere & anytime
That’s why Michael is the greatest basketball player because he combines two great players in his arsenal Dr J and the iceman skills .
I liked when Jordan laughed after Ice said he punched that guy and knocked him out

Jordan had good interviewing skills he could have had his own sports show
Jordan was working behind the scene on his *"game"*

Damn, Ice still looked so young at retiring, he could have played some more years for sure.
I like that shirt Michael Jordan got on.

Jordan and Gervin were teammates in Gervin's last season
Ice man was a baller. Still shocked that my man David Thompson not a member of that top 75.
they prefer to keep players with a known drug addiction out.
The music in this is so good.
I grew up watching Gervin.He was a one man wrecking crew! I'm 56 now,and MJ's
the only other player I've watched that you knew who was the best player on the court....
He wasn't thinking 🤔
Umm Doug Collins didn't coach that 85-86 Bulls team that was Stan Albeck...Doug came into the fold as coach for the 86-87 season til he got replaced for Phil Jackson in 89 after the Bulls lost to the pistons in the ECF.
Another player who had the best potential was Michael Antonio Britt (October 7, 1960 - December 25, 2017) was an American professional basketball player who was selected by the Washington Bullets.

Would've been interesting, like Len Bias to see against The GOAT - MJ.
