    I love your tips. I’m the interior painter of the family so I always appreciate great tips. One thing I do before painting is very lightly dampen my brush with water before painting. Just a mist of water on each side, not too much or you get annoying drips when you’re painting. The bristles don’t get as much paint soaked into them and it makes cleanup real quick. Very little bristle brushing required

    I have watched many of this guy's videos and he is a painting beast. He does not use those cheap roller covers like most nubs in here!!! I like his paint methods. He paints the trim and doors first which I never thought of. He can paint empty houses without a roller if he chooses. The best painter I have personally seen and I painted commercially in the past. I have a 4500 square foot house to paint and wish I had his help.

    I've done the spinning thing before, but I don't know why I never thought to use a bucket to keep from slinging paint on myself. Great tips!

      ***** How much caffeine did you have? LOL! Big contrast from when I seen you on the wranglerstar channel. Great tips by the way. What section of the hardware store do you find the nozzle in? The goofs at my store kept showing me regular garden hose nozzles.

    Thanks Steve and Chris! What I do before taking it to the hose, I love your method, for a roller I use the round portion of a heavy duty paint scraper and kinda sueeze out whatever is left in the roller back into the bucket. Or waste bucket. By doing this a few times you'll be amazed how much paint is stored in the roller.
    Great work. Keep the vids coming!

    Cool! Unloading the roller first using a blunt kitchen knife over the paint tin helps this go much faster. Strip it in a spiral motion, repeat a few of times. Saves an awful lot of paint too!

    Can't wait to give the water hose nozzle approach a try. Looks so much faster than cleaning a roller in the sink or tub.

    Hi ya Chris, excellent tips on how to clean a roller and brush. Instead of patting the brush on the toe of you're shoe ,boot or whatever I like to put the handle of the brush in the palms of both hands holding the brush vertically and move both hands back and forth spinning it over a bucket or open container. That method gets all the cleaning fluid out and on to the edge of the container leaving your brush nice and clean. I also use this method for cleaning enamel brushes in turpentine also. quick and easy

    • @owenbinaisse7371
      @owenbinaisse7371 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Thanks for your reply Chris .Another method I like to use is in particular after painting with enamel or oil based paint is to everything that I mentioned before plus after spinning I wash the brush in soap and water by lathering up the brush bristles over a cake of soap, then with the bristles between thumb & forefinger pull down from feral to bottom a few rimes then wash out in cold water and spin out. leave the brush to dry, and when it is dry you have a nice soft brush ready to go again. This method is great if using brushes on & off.

    If I use white emulsion paint for a few days on the run eg on ceilings and walls etc, as it's a water based paint I put my roller in a small plastic bag and tie or twist it up, it doesn't dry out and you can use it till you finish the job then clean with running water, give it a good shake dry and you are done, a clean roller for another paint job.Take Care,Barry from England

    Hi there, as a painter of over 35 years, I know that latex paint does not hurt grass. I just spin the roller and spray the grass and it works fine. About brushes? I use to kick them dry but it really tears up your shoes. So my better solution is to just spin the brush by the handle between my hands. Try it! That is if you get tired of tearing up your shoes.

    here are some ideas back for you.
    Look at using FABRIC SOFTENER after you clean the brush, and actually, before you ever use it.
    Make the bristles super smooth and they are much easier to clean up after each use.
    Also, try Murphy's Oil Soap on encrusted, hardened brushes. Let them soak for a week or 2 or until you can use a wire brush on them effectively.

  • @weissbornjr
    @weissbornjr 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you use the wire brush on Purdy and other high-dollar brushes? Seems like it would tear them up and those brushes ain't cheap.

      You can really scrape out most of the paint with a putty knife, then keep the bucket upright while it spins. As long as you keep the roller below the rim and vertical very little comes out of the bucket, and it's very watered down if it does.

    It might be worth pointing out that you should check local laws before cleaning paint (even latex paint) where the waste water can flow back into the ecosystem. I live in a suburban area of Houston, and I almost received a citation for doing that. I was told to rinse paint brushes in the sink so that the water would instead go to the local treatment plant.
    This may or may not apply to your specific location, but it's something to think about for an instructional video.

    I clean brushes, but never bother cleaning rollers. Roller covers are too cheap to worry about.
    If I am not done with that color, I will wrap it in plastic and toss it in the fridge. The plastic and the cold temperatures keeps the paint from drying and you can keep on using it.
    When I am done with a color, I just throw the roller covers away. That is too much work to save a couple of bucks.

    • @seigeengine
      @seigeengine 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jonathan Mulzer So cheap you're willing to spend extra time, money, and space buying and potentially storing them to save a minute or two?

    • @evilhorde1
      @evilhorde1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      seigeengine When I buy the paint, I buy a few roller covers. Same as Johnathan, I refrigerate the cover until I am done with the color, then discard the cheap cover. I don't paint often so I see no reason to take up shelf space with a used cover. No time wasted, no space wasted, and I'm out less than $10. If you are worried about painting you fridge, double wrap the roller cover. or use three plastic grocery bags if you wish.

    • @seigeengine
      @seigeengine 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      evilhorde1 Or, you could not waste the money buying the roller covers, not waste the time having to pick them up and purchase them, and, if you already have the paint on hand, not have to go to the store at all. Also, considering you already are storing the roller, there's not much difference in space here between zero and one.
      All because you weren't too lazy to take 2 minutes out of your life* to demonstrate that you realize wasting things is bad, and that you're part of the problem.
      By the way, I wish people would stop repeating how you store wet rollers to me every time they comments at me. It's getting really annoying. It's neither relevant to what I'm saying nor something I was ignorant of to begin with.
      * = And, to narrow down on one issue, even if we say it would take you 5 minutes, and it would cost you $10, you're effectively saying you value your time at greater than $120/hour, which is an amount, given you're a fairly typical person, I doubt you make doing whatever it is you likely also spend thousands of hours a year on.
      EDIT: And to clarify, I was combining several potential situations there. The money and time apply to everyone, the space was mainly aimed at people who paint regularly, and so might be inclined to purchase a large number of roller covers to keep on hand as needed.

    • @evilhorde1
      @evilhorde1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I buy cheap rollers (3 for $7) so I am saying I value my time at closer to $30 an hour. Aside from me, who is repeating how they store wet rollers? or do you troll all of the 'how to clean and store paint roller cover' forums?

    • @jonathanmulzer17
      @jonathanmulzer17 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      seigeengine WTF are you getting on about? When I buy paint, I buy roller covers. If I do have any left over, it is not like they are made from dairy. They are not perishable and 2-3 roller covers take up a very minimum amount of space.

  • @veelil9044

    You forgot to take the roller off the frame because paint collects inside the middle so no matter how much you spin it that paint will splatter out
    I'm just saying you forgot a step that's all

    Of all the colors available for clothing, why white? Why do painters always wear white? Seems like *the* most stain-able color available.

      Adam R That's an interesting question.
      Arbitrary guess at an advantage: It's easier to see paint on the white clothes, so you're less likely to have paint on you, and not realize it, and do something silly and get that paint on something you don't want it on.

      I think it began way back when painters whitewashed buildings. And continues today because a majority of their work involes white or some very light colors.

      I'm sure it is not an oil base paint but one that is harmless to plant life.

      +Sandra Roe It may be "harmless" to plant life, but there are plenty of harmful chemicals in paint that will enter the soil, which, in turn, will jeopardize wildlife and water reservoirs. Even if by some astronomically remote chance that their paint is some "all organic purely harmless super magic paint that hasn't been invented yet," they're teaching others to do this and make no note of the possible harm.

      Latex paint is fairly inert, so kids can eat it. Your yard acts as a wetland to hold the material until it breaks down. I've washed down on the same spot for years, grass grows fine and the bugs thrive. If you really want to freak out, walk outside and look at all the houses with 3 tab roofing, tar is being washed into the ground water every time it rains! Maybe go door to door and tell your neighbors about that.
