So glad I found you! Loving your content and the way you articulate. My sister and I left our hearts in Hawaii, but we’re Canadian darn it lol. But we do come every year… the beauty, the aloha spirit…it’s everything ❤
@@brendamclean8447 I really appreciate that, thank you! Hawaii is definitely an amazing place and I'm glad to hear you've had the same experience here. 😋
Thank you so much for this heartfelt video. The themes are familiar, as I lived a decade on a small Caribbean island and am ready to move to Hawaii to again live that lifestyle I miss so much. It's great to know all of the things you highlighted are there and apparent to you. You sound like someone who truly appreciates the good and beautiful in a place like this and are realistic about things that are not there. This video makes me even more certain I want to be there, work being the only question mark. Thanks again, and I look forward to more videos. Peace
I really appreciate that man, thank you! And that's awesome to hear. It took me about 4 years of planning/saving to finally make the move out here back in 2015 and I haven't looked back since and I'm sure you'll be in the same boat soon.
I love this video, it is a great inspiration for my intention to move there ... I will follow for more tips and information, and I can continue to make my plan ...🤞
Thank you for sharing your personal views and thoughts of moving to Hawaii. This was exactly what I was searching for! Hubby and I are thinking of moving and want to get perspective of someone like you. Definitely much appreciated and all points you shared are going to be well considered!
That's awesome, I'm glad to hear that! If there's anything else you'd like to know about living in Hawaii, feel free to DM me or let me know in the comments.
@@Readysetgolive thank you! A lot people ship their cars here either through Young Brothers or Matson, but I ended up selling mine and buying a different car when I got here.
Wow yeah that's surprising! Leeward is usually our warmer/dryer side of the island. I do remember this year was a lot cooler than usual though all the way up until around August.
Yeah definitely, we've used Get Your Guide a lot for booking activities like this. There are a bunch of surf instructors on here and you can search for the area of the island that you want to book a lesson. Here's a link: gyg.me/sk9llDU7
Try moving from Minnesota and say the weather isn't always perfect in Hawaii. 😂🤣😂 That said, you give good advice here. Glad you mentioned kindness, because what I found is that Hawaii is one of the most reflective societies I've ever been to -- in that you receive what you put out. If you're an angry individual, you will probably get that in return. I hear some people talk about negative experiences with the locals and I keep that fact in the back of my mind. My personal experience has been wonderful. Being formerly in the military you probably aren't as sensitive to the general anti-military feelings of the general population, mainly because the amount of land they control and practices like the fuel contamination controversy over the water supply. But the mistrust is definitely there. You should probably also mention that if you are looking for work as a newcomer, the locals are wary you may not stay. So many come and realize the island life is not for them and leave within 2 or 3 years. Not worth the time to train them. It was 4 years before I found a "real" job (film curator for the Honolulu Museum). I've been here for almost 37 years now. Finally, you touched on the spiritual well-being one feels here. Worth mentioning is the real phenomenon of endorphins generated by being surrounded by the ocean. They say that Hawaii will either take you in or spit you out, depending on who you are and I wholeheartedly believe in that self-selection process. The ones who stay are suppposed to be here. I've been extremely lucky in that regard, living on the Big Island, Kauai, and Oahu in that order. Each so different and with individual life lessons to teach. Aloha...
What do you do for a living? Any recommendations for a one bedroom apartment? I don’t have a wife or kids and will be coming alone. Also, how do I transfer my money from Chase to bank of Hawaii? Should take it all out in cash or check? Would they allow a transfer
@@thetimeisnow5396 Hey Merry Christmas! I'm a real estate broker here so happy to help if you need anything. It depends on the lifestyle you're looking for and your budget. If you're wanting to be close to everything and have a healthy budget, I would recommend Pualei Circle/Gold Coast area or Kakaako in Honolulu. Some more budget friendly areas would be Waikiki or Makiki. If you're wanting more of a laid back lifestyle, there are some good condos in Kailua or North Shore as well. I'd recommend keeping your Chase account for the time being but transferring enough money over to Bank of Hawaii to be comfortable living here and slowly moving more over in time. You should be able to transfer by writing a check to yourself.
We need more Mexican food in Hawaii! If you open one here I'll do a video special to help promote. Was just in San Diego too.. now I'm thinking about tacos 😂

Our last vacation in may on the leeward side we were rained out from the beach about half the time.

I only know of the Mexican Restaurant across the street from Helena’s. Haven’t tried it though.
I think that's Mexico Restaurant on School Street, that one is actually pretty good!

Thanks! I'll need to try that.
