I love this already. It's about the tenth Yanmar oil change video I've seen but the first where it started with the basic steps and just went through them. Thank you.

The oil pick up is directly under the oil dipstick. If you put a longer wire (than the dipstick) you think you are hitting the oil pan, but you are only hitting the oil pickup. You have to keep rotating the hose and pushing down until it bypasses the oil pick up and hits the bottom of the oil pan. I too was only getting a little bit out until I found this out. Keep googling the engine number and put in oil pickup and you may find it that explains it better.

After watching this, I am SO glad the previous owner put a drain plug in the pan of my 3GM30f! I just put a heavy trash bag under it, open the drain, let it go, remove and replace the oil filter, go have lunch, come back put the plug back in, fill-er-up ! You SHOULD be able to remove the pan in situ and put a bung in, if you are inclined to do so.

Thanks for covering this. I'm buying a freedom 33 with this exact engine in it so I've subscribed and looking forward to seeing more engine stuff like this video. Thanks again

What kind of alternator is that? I never could have much luck with the hand pump. I use an electric but hose placement is key.

I don't know the manufacturer of the alternator. It has a very old fashioned external regulator. So far it has worked just fine.

Nice video, thanks for sharing. Wouldn't you be using a mineral oil instead of Synthetic on these Yanmar engines?

check your manual. I, personally, use Yamnar brand oil ( and filters, coolant, etc) . About the same price. Unsure if it is synthetic or not.

Hi - Your best bet is to google for your engine owner’s manual. The 3GM30F transmission takes 10w-30 motor oil. There is a good Yanmar group on FB as well that may have the manual already.

ON MY 3 GM 30 THE MANUAL SAYS TO USE THE SAME OIL AS THE ENGINE STRAIGHT 30 WEIGHT ( ROTELLA T 1 OR YANMAR 30)

all that work to get half of the oil out? There is space under the engine for a 2.6 liter container, laid on its side with a hole cut in it to have all oil drain into...

Yep - it's an imperfect process. Where is the drain plug do you use to empty your pan from the bottom?
