it’s not scary that you’re alone, it’s scary that you think you might not be. whether that be due to past experiences, like late nights on gmod playing with friends, or just the nature of the beast itself with its ambient sounds and boxed in feel, it’s hard to actually feel comfortable.
Basically, You're not scared of being alone. You're scared of NOT being alone.
Wrong. I am scared of being alone. That feeling of emptiness around you, the remnants of before a civilization, the isolating space in the boundaries of concrete walls, loneliness... Gives a vibe of a ghost town, don't you think?
ive ben playing gmod singleplayer always and its sometimes scary but sometimes its very cool and i never saw ghosts in maps

It’s because it’s a multiplayer game and I’m forever alone. That’s why it’s creepy.

That's actually true. There is a mysterious figure that hides near/top the long building. But if you go there, there is nothing actually.

Same! I only play Garry's Mod to make the Snpc's fight eachother to the death.
I played this game never in multiplayer, always alone (i was 11 and people online bullied me for being a squeaker) as a result i compensated with friendly npcs to fill in the nothingness, but what helped me the most was having omnipotent power over everything through admin control, so knowing that i was having fun with mods one day i spawned an scp, it killed and jumpscared me and naturally i just used admin commands to try to undo and remove it, and it didnt work so like a dumbass i felt it dethroned me so i turned off my pc and ran away. Hehe
I have more than 900 hours of pure singleplayer

@@warlord4thewitness its an ssd and ssd makes your pc SOOOO fast example the game rust (made by facepunch) takes 20-30 mins to load with ssd it takes 1-4 mins
@@Christian_Cage becuase unlike hard drives, SSDs have NAND Flash and DRAM Cache memory
He just did editing, he said he took 2-3 minutes to load in.
If you have an SSD and delete and disable unnecessary settings and things, it can load pretty quickly.

Back in the days when me and my friend tried to hunt ghosts in Gmod classic maps, but we never seen one, instead of it we scared ourselves with thoughts of ghosts. Where we didnt even know how do we get Add-ons and other maps... Good old days, good old days
I remember playing gm_construct with my friend we spawned lots of zombies and pretended it was a zombie escape but we never entered the dark room...
I think what makes gm_construct so unsettling and uncanny is that well, it's designed like a sandbox environment but the textures of the structures suggest human created buildings but the design itself is not what an engineer would make. An example would be the skyscrapers, they look like they'd be apartments but when you enter them, there is nothing, just an empty floor and no way to walk or climb up to the higher floors.
and the map being completely boxed in plus the random locations of those apartments. Also the main building in construct (the complex with the mirror and dark rooms) is very strangely designed

we always imagine cities bring crowded and populated and when it's empty we feel scared
@@Pong_3k If you really want that feeling, try out gm_bigcity, I warn you though, there are certain areas on that map, that activate some pretty weird things, I'd say don't go to the cafe

Actually,the thing that makes it creepier is the fact there IS sound(like sounds of water being moved and birds chirping) but you can't see those things,you can literally go in the lake and yet still hear sounds as if wind or a sea creature was moving in it,but the water is completely still.You can go way up in the sky with v-clip and still hear birds chirping.I know that they're just sound affects added to make the map more lively,but the fact you can't see what's making those sounds is a little creepy.
It’s scary because you are meant to be messing around with objects and having fun in Garry’s mod

Hello Everyone! I try to stream regularly so PLEASE subscribe and turn on notifications so you don’t miss it. I also will be making more videos so PLEASE subscribe and turn on notifications for that as well. I didn't expect this video to gain this much traction and now I'm wishing I put more effort into it lol.
Addressing a few questions:
Why is it so quiet?
To simply put it, my headphones were turned up very high while making the video causing any attempt in sound mixing very difficult.
How did you load the game so fast?
The magic of editing! In reality it took me about 1-2 minutes to load in.
One hour? Your internet isn’t bad!
The base game of Gmod is only about 2-3 gigabytes. On top of that I use a phone hotspot for everything internet related so things usually take multiple hours to download. Must have been a good day I guess.

I spent over 300 hours in singleplayer GMod and 95% of the time I found it relaxing (like singleplayer Minecraft for example)

The reason why I think this is eerie is I somehow feel like there is something trying to kill me or jumpscare me.

spawn a bunch of npcs and plow through them with an OP workshop weapon, it helps. (also tf2 is the scariest especially 2fort invasion when the music isn't playing)

I don’t know why this was recommended to me, but I never went into the underground unless I lit that sucker up like a Christmas tree when I was smaller. Now When I go down there not as scared, but when I do go down I still light it up to where I don’t see a single shadow in a corner.

This game gives me so much anxiety that I literally have to either play with someone, or have someone next to me irl to get past the feeling
Sometimes, when I'm very paranoid, I just noclip into the sky, knowing anything that isn't a 2d picture can't get me.
I don't know why, but the ambient sounds + the map "without" anyone makes me feel that someone is following me or is around

It's kinda the same feeling as loading a map in halo and just taking strolls aimlessly and having that gut feeling that you might not be alone
The creepiest part is how fast it took for you to load up the map.

I remember, when I was a kid, and I booted the "de_survivor" map on cs 1.6 (I loved to explore the maps by myself) and fell into the icy water there... on the lower-left corner of the screen popped an HEV icon (well, the assets to this game were ported from HL1 so...) depicting a guy wearing a mask, and I was so scared, that I immediately turned the game off... that was a very creepy experience for me

I was on a SCP-3008 (infinite ikea) map and I was checking out one of the small areas, I almost had a heart attack when I thought a dark figure was standing at the doorway

Singleplayer has stopped creeping me out because I’m so lonely. The silence becomes a blanket over you.
Same feel but with flatgrass. If you look deeper to it there is nothing but a garage looking thing. Who built it? Why was it named flatgrass if there was this giant thing? All unknown (atleast for me lol)
imagine your playing gmod single player, and you start getting that creepy liminal space feeling, and suddenly the game notifies you that a player joined your game?
The soundscapes really makes it eerie, and it's not just gmod
It makes you feel like something is watching you except you can't see what it is
Anyone ever felt like something is watching you and it feels like your not alone inside a map in gmod
This is why I get boss NPCs (not scary, just big and epic) so I can have an intense battle with weapon mods and have fun ignoring the eerie feeling of single player
Without NPC. You can ignore that eerie feeling, either.
I never felt scared about Singleplayer in the first place. I just have fun in singleplayer and play with ragdolls and NPC's
To this day I don't like going in that dark room in gm_construct.

Also, playing gmod on single player is like going into the nether and losing your portal/going into caves and you run out of torches

Tbh singleplayer can be a weird mix of paranoid sometimes, charming when the funniest things happen, and then comfort when you just mess around
Gmod has given me so many great memories over the years, when none of my friends were around to get on (only 1 of my friends had a PC then, my other friend would come over my house and borrow a PC for LAN), I would normally spawn some NPCs and a few cars and just mess around, maps like gm_calamitycoast, phys_bridge, phys_house, the nomaz maps and the Gmod storm chaser maps (probably the biggest one right there). Most of the time the loneliness was oddly comforting. Although otherwise I'd pop a few npcs here and there to fill it.

In good single player I have the creepy feeling that I'm not alone and something is in there with me so I spawn rebels so i feel safe
The reason why it's so scary and unnerving to play singleplayer because your playing by yourself, not only that, you will have a feeling that someone or something is watching you and there's no background music, just complete silence

Gmod How Can I say no to you, I Remember when I got this game it was about I guess Like summer, of 2013 (I was about 10 and I first loaded up gmod on construct, and I did not get That feeling.) I was greeted my the big spawn menu And as I looked, through the menu I came to ragdolls! Yay! I messed around with them posing them roleplaying with them I had, A great Fantasy But That Is long Gone now I'm 18, now and still remember I still Love gmod! but I get that feeling now well it's a source game, so of course it's going to be creepy, right? -My brother

You expect life in maps like gm_bigcity but its all you hearing cars in the distance so its that eerie feeling like your alone lol
You get the same feeling when you load up array on combat training and forget to put the bots in the game in bo1
I get this same creepy feeling in singleplayer that you are being watched or are not alone, and I pretty much only play singleplayer when I'm on, but I never really realized this feeling that I had until now, but it's only on the Source maps.
Imagine if you is charchecter in gmod map and you in there alone and cannot go any where unless stay here..

I get a similar feeling when I'm playing Minecraft on my own with way too many mods, random screeching, clowns laughing, realistic shaders, blood and no music, while I'm strip mining down a dark tunnel with no torches left

It's the uncanny valley effect, but for a world. From a brief look, it looks regular enough, but when you take a close look, the whole thing just feels... sort of hollow.
What’s braver: walking into the dark room in Construct calmly, or spawning a Stalker and attacking it to see what it will do?

Loading up any old, dead game and hopping into a multiplayer map by yourself is always eerie. Another game that has the same creepy feeling as Gmod is actually Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. When I was a preteen and I hopped into a multiplayer match (the multiplayer was long dead but this point) it was always creepy. The empty maps in Allied Assault had a similar atmosphere to singlrplayer Gmod

The textures, sounds etc unintentionally induce anxiety within the player.
Each time I go understairs in gm_construct its creepy as hell and I always feel someone is following me cuz the room is dark
Yeah, it is scary when you're alone, you want to make some histories with ragdolls and you suddenly see a pitched black room, without any lighting except the on from other rooms outside or the only light bulb in the exit, you have some mods that make the ambience a bit darker or terrorific, and you suddenly hear a random sound inside that room, you use the flashlight but doesn't light all the room, so you decide to use the light bulb tool, you get out, but feel the atmosphere a little creepier and find the secret room with the doll and furniture, you feel creeped out, just to your friend to join with an SCP model and comes behind you, yeah pretty much scary

I always got that feeling in empty source maps but it never creeped me out. It's just the soundscapes that makes you think you are not alone. It's a game after all, no big deal.
When i play alone i close every entry to dark rooms with props
In gm_construct I have a feeling that something is watching me. On flatgrass I have a feeling that the sky would turn red and something big and scary would appear out of nowhere
My brother is always asking to play garrys mod with me, and when I do get to play single player, I just spawn a few elmos and Patricks and I’m all good
