This man doesnt need no interviwers... he's got his shit covered, love it.
You should check out Ben on incubus' live at red rocks DVD. He is one of the most underrated rock bassists. His tone is awesome and his playing is so smooth and tasty. He's really good.
I like him more than dirk personally
@@thetincan_man Same! I just bought one of those mesa boogie walkabout amps because of this. It sounds killer.
Agreed!!!!!
Dude that DVD changed my life at 13 years old I sear to God.
Ben was a low-key, bright and positive youth in the Bradley Beach/Asbury Park NJ sound and scene in the mid-90’s. Those Hardcore Matinee shows on Sunday at The Stone Pony from ‘94/95 were incredible. When I say low-key I mean he was so intune to what he was doing. His band Racecar at the time was incredible. He worked with our band 8.0 during those years and just had this tremendous insight on music. I remember him mentioning that his brothers were on Atlantic Records in the ‘80s and that helped shape him. Great to see him during the years from playing with The Roots to Incubus. Salute to you my good brother.
I've still got the Race Car demo. My band Sinister Dane once played one of those Stone Pony shows with Race Car. They killed it live. I can still hear some of those influences in his solo stuff.
Love how he didn't get interviewed, he was the interview. "You're with me now."
That was a cool guy enjoying his time talking about bass I think that's great.
Black Flag reference and a The Fall Of Troy shirt? Would never guess this guy would be into the Hardcore scene. Great player. Listened to Incubus since childhood
This guy is so cool! Loved the interview and the openess and sharing of Ben Kenney.
When he showed us 4:44 , I just knew I will love this guy for ever.
such a amazing bassist !
He should remaster and re-release his Supergrub project, pre Incubus. He's playing all the instruments and his singing is amazing!!
I love that short scale bass!!!!
This is what I like to hear. Glad to know his sound is pretty simple, I'm really getting into a flatwound midrange punch kind of sound lately
Love you Ben
For reference: The song that they wrote together (with Ashley Mendel) is called IDFAR. c: It's a pretty awesome song.
Wow rockin The Fall of Troy shirt. I dont know why but it always surprises me when I find out major label bands or members of maj label bands know and are into more underground bands that I am into. Even Dave Lombardo said hes into TFOT lol. Awesome to know and see that bigger bands still follow and are into good music. Its cool how no matter how big they get they themselves are still fans of music.
Haha he's wearing a Tfot shirt. Much respect
I KNOW RIGHT?!?!? would've never guessed he'd be a TFOT fan.. the more you know?
was about to comment that haha
They have a song together. Type in Thomas Erak Ben Kenney - it's actually pretty good.
Thomas Erak and Ben are close friends!
That short-scale Lakland jazz bass sounds incredible on the Anna Molly live clip on the Incubus YT channel. Annoying all his stuff is custom as I'd love to get my hands on that particular model.
I want one of those walkabout scouts... can't find them for sale anywhere unfortunately. I know Mesa discontinued them, but I would love to get one with a 12 extension to go with it.
I want that shortscale Jazz Bass.
YES! Ben Kenney is so great
Oh yes please! A Geddy rundown is way overdue!
Not really a fan of Incubus, but this dude seems pretty cool. And I watched this video because I was curious about the gear
Same here
How are you two not really a fan of incubus? I absolutely love this band ahaha
How can you not be a fan? Listen to the science and make yourself album. Two of the best albums ever made.
He's got some killer bass tone.
Coolest dude ever, nice amp config.
I've been wanting to try out those lakland basses for a while; they sound really good.
Such a cool dude
Laklands are amazing. For me, the best bass brand by a mile. I have the 44-02. Even though its the "budget" version of the American Deluxe (they still retail in shops here in UK £1000+, brand new) they're near as damn it the same as the originals, Only a professional could tell the difference ie, better woods, quarter sawn technique, slightly warmer more resonant tones. This one of Bens is awesome, I'd give my left nut for one!
RUSH IS ON TOUR GRAB GEDDY AND DO A RIG RUNDOWN... Great vid btw reall enjoy these!!!
It's so cool how all our ears are drawn to something different
luv the 30inch jazz style bass
Cool The Fall of Troy shirt. To bad they broke up. Him and Thomas actually wrote a song together. Its up on soundcloud somewhere.
i don't play bass but that one would be something i'd buy
guitar tour: 30:00
bass tour: 7:30
:-/
I LOVE YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO! *_*
THAT BLACK FLAG REFERENCE AT THE BEGINNING.
Ben
"My name is henry and you're with me now." .... kudos for the Black Flag reference.
That fall of Troy shirt!
" special place in my heart " LOL
Seems like the nicest guy :D MORE BASS VIDEOS
THIS DESK IS MAHOGANY!
yupeeeeeee let's celebrate!!!!!!! cheeers!!!!
i was just saying....
i´m a bass player and if the remaining time is just nonesene for you, fine. not for me. i would be really happy to watch a 30 minutes bass gear video!
3 or 4 basses, nothing too crazy
love that jazz bass!!! make a long scale and call it his signature model ;)
"It's the best bass in the world that I've ever played because it was free but when this sponsorship deal ends I'll probably get another bass that's the best in the world that I've ever played......"
wow.he's wearing FOT t-shirts.
Why did he let this guy take his mic?
Can you guys please do Jeff Stinco from Simple Plan? :(
WOW! he reps the best bands ever. The Fall Of Troy ftw!
This isn't the most popular opinion, but I love Ben's personality and playing more than Dirk/Alex's. The band just became more whole and passionate once Ben came into the picture, even they say so in a couple interviews. He just clicks better with the band and has been with incubus longer than Dirk now, he just really brought the band together in my opinion. My favorite albums are definitely A Crow Left of the Murder and If Not Now, When. Like I said not a popular opinion, but the musical genius and creativity the band showed in those albums was so deep and much more passionate than their early years. You have every right to think otherwise, and Dirk is great. I just prefer incubus with Ben, maybe it's becasue I prefer the less intense genres. Whatever you love about incubus is your opinion, but I always thought these guys got better with age. :-)
I want that 30' jazz bass
Me too!
That tfot shirt
He reps the Netherlands? BOOSH.
Is that a gate on the mic? I hate it.
YEAHHHH ORANJE STICKER!!!
interesting amp set......
What genre are they I've heard them but Idk
+BullSpit Alternative Rock/Funk Metal....
All of them depending on the album. Lol
The KNVB sticker on the back Hahahaha
ajaaaa playyyyyyyy the basss
squier used to have awesome colours in the vintage modified series... but they screwed up the whole thing this year... i liked squier a lot cause of the modern colour schemes but now they're going vintage...
Bass rigs are usually pretty bare bones compared to over-the-top-nit-picky guitar rigs.
.... Didn't know John Gallagher of Dying Fetus worked for Premier Guitar.
Shouts Out 2 The Fall Of Troy lol
but this men is good too
does wood really 'dry out' though, when it's covered in finish? nah
If you see a vintage guitar with long cracks in the finish that's because ita dried out wood.
So he just uses multiple combos and their extension cabs? That's so freakin weird...
They sound unbelievable though. I have one myself. They're 300 watts so plenty. Tube also.
The fall of Troy 😏😏
simplicity..
not a fan of flat strings when i play with my fingers. never really tried with a pick tho!!
Maybe you should have tried a Gibson Thunderbird. Its mahogany and has been around before you were born.
jsong1974 he does not like mud tone so no thunderbirds in his arsenal
Some guys like to talk more. And some guys have so many guitars that it takes 20 minutes to show them all.
vids not even that long>
I still miss dirk lance
Honestly, I don't.
Chorus before octave... hmm... (:
oh wow the fall of troy
seems legit. but I like longer videos better anyway ;)
cheer up dude, that remaining 22:30 minutes is usually just nonsene mumble-jumble
After Dirk nothing was the same
papery..
Lehle = "lay-lay" nope, "lay-lee" ;)
Since when was Levi from devils rejects doing interviews? Go back to those Rhode Island reds!
Those are some sexy ass basses.
tfot
He got cool gear but it ain’t got nothing on Dirk’s setup imo. Still a good choice with the Mesa stuff. It’s a shame though that he can’t play any of Dirk’s more impressive lines but each player is different in style and tone. Still, mad respect for stepping into those shoes Dirk left behind. Incubus is a great band still. Dirk or no Dirk...
This dude is a far better player then Dirk though in my opinion. Dirk was great. Ben is on another level though.
this dude is so.... w/e.
cost a fort for nothing ..
Incubus-why would you replace dirk with this guy?
dirk was not replaced. dirk left then band.
Because dirk left and Bens a cool and super talented guy
Dirk left... also Ben is a far better musician then Dirk.
Still ain't no Dirk
You're right... Ben is a better musician. I like old Incubus more personally also, but this guy blows Dirk out of the water in my opinion. Dirk is killer too though!
He’s good, but it doesn’t fit incubus. At all.
Lots of tonewood nonsense in this video
