This still sounds wild and unhinged in 2021. Difficult to imagine how far out it must've sounded in 1956. The Trio, to me, are and always will be the absolute epitome of rockabilly.

I was 12 when this song came out in 1956. Couldn’t wait to buy the 45 rpm and played it over and over. My older sister and her boyfriend took me to see them and others perform outside somewhere outside of Baltimore. Lived out in the county at the time. For some reason woke up this morning and this song jumped in my head. Just found this on ZT. It still rocks just as much as I thought it did!!!

Story I heard was that when they were playing live and thrashing their instruments and bringing the sound levels to the edge of distortion, the crowd went wild.
The band and sound engineers noticed this and then they played everything just to the edge of distortion just before the sound decays.Pure rock n roll chaos.
Twenty six years later Jesus and Mary Chain used the same technique in their live shows.

‌"The Train Kept A Rollin'" was originally recorded in Oct. 1951 by American rhythm and blues musician Tiny Bradshaw, originally performed in the style of a jump blues.
Johnny Burnette and the Rock and Roll Trio made an important contribution to it in 1956 by rearranging it into rock'n'roll, a model recorded in May 1965 by Screaming Lord Sutch by transforming it into wild rock, the author of the guitar solo is Ritchie Blackmore. In September 1965, the Yardbirds recorded it with Jeff Beck's mythical arrangement.
After guitarist Jimmy Page joined the band, the Yardbirds recorded an edited version with new lyrics for Antonioni's film "Blow Up" under the title "Stroll on". With a boosted rhythm section and a Beck/Page dual lead guitar attack, he is considered a precursor of heavy metal.
When the Yardbirds broke up in 1968, "Train Kept A-Rollin'" was adopted as the concert opener by Jimmy Page's new band, Led Zeppelin, during its early years on tour. They never recorded a studio version.
The vast majority of rock fans know "Train Kept a-Rollin'" from Aerosmith's terrific 1974 version on their second album, Get Your Wings, and its permanent place in their live set for the past 35 years.
"TRAIN KEPT A-ROLLIN" IS THE GREATEST ROCK'N'ROLL SONG OF ALL TIME. !! And that's all.

Johnny Burnette, before he decided to be a balladeer. He and his brother Dorsey, Paul and Buddy on those slappin' drums defined Rockabilly. I first heard this classic on an LP from Solid Smoke records in the mid-70s, and instantly became a poodle-skirt-wearin', rockabilly hep cat!
