Thank you so much! I just ordered this from Verizon and am a bit nervous as I'm upgrading from a Palm Centro - obviously some major differences! But your reviews have given me some great info and helped me know what to expect. THANKS!
@MrSteelyRevolution4 It is much faster than the original, but otherwise much the same. I don't know if I would bother with an upgrade. Also, I use Sony Vegas for editing.
@Jman460 because some people actually enjoy knowing that it comes with a usb cable, charger, case, manuals, CDs, or maybe even A CAR CHARGER. accessories are important to consider when buying a phone, as the carriers will charge $30 or more for a simple usb cable.
Although I like the Droid 2 a lot internally the lack of a D Pad is a deal breaker for me, because you can't place the cursor to where you desire when you TXT its extremely useful to have. Having said that I don't mind the lack of the QWERTY keyboard on the Droid X because you CAN pinpoint the cursor whenever you want. To be COMPLETELY honest I'm still in love with my Droid and see no need to run out and replace it yet, even if it is for Android 2.2 firmware. :)
@163mike I strongly recomend having an internet conection via 3g or Wifi for a smartphone.Specially on this one. It's like having a good car with really bad tires. You will lost a lot funtionality of it, without internet. But it will work without internet as well. (sorry for my English)
@babylion44 the only difference between the two is that the droid X has the 8mp camera and hdmi port, while the droid 2 has the slide out keyboard, but no hdmi port and a 5mp camera. other than that, identical hardware.
I am trying to choose between Droid 2 Global and Droid Pro. How easy is it to type on the Pro, and what about the limited screen size on the Pro? My main concern on the Droid2 is the sliding keyboard that makes it hard to find a good case that doesn't interfere. I come from an HTC 8525 with excellent keyboard and no need for case due to magnesium case (virtually no scratches in 4y of use !). Any pointers appreciated, as I plan to order tomorrow on Amazon Wireless. Thanks!
I accidentally dropped mine off a roller coaster a little over a year ago, still worked. Not even a scratch, a year later... still works fine, great phone in my opinion.
Does the keyboard on this device suffer from the problem where the plastic de-adheres from the keys? The Droid 1 had this problem. You'd probably have to use the Droid 2 for a couple months to actually see if it suffers from this problem or not..
@Kromius99 so, why do they hate them? I have an iphone 4 32gb and I am switching back, since the iphone - even with the jailbreak - is quite limited in its abilities. both phones are nice actually. what I like best about the iphone is the smooth interface experience, but that's about it.
@nepaliman No, the Droid 2 is CDMA only so you won't be able to use your SIM. However the new Droid 2 GLOBAL was released this week. That one is CDMA/GSM. It's the world's first worldwide android device. :) Wait for the Milestone Global.
Thanks for posting this video. I have an iPhone 4 and I must say that the voice search demo is very cool. Does this phone have multi-tasking capability?
@BroncoFanForever1 too add what u said, the droid 2 has multiple bugs with is battery and other features, there were also cases of the battery melting and exploding so the droid 2 global fixed all of thoses bugs
@ProudiPhoneOwner do you like your incredible? i bought the incredible also but kinda wishing i bought the droid 2 i think i would like a physical keyboard better
im thinking about getting this phone if you buy it already used can you just set up calling or does it have to have texting, and internet already set up??? please tell me
will it cost extra to use this phone as a mobile hot spot? how much do the keys stick out compared to the original droid? does it have a better resolution than the droid x? Thank you for your time buddy! Much obliged!
i have the droid. my plan ends next january. (i know, a long while left) but i was wondering IF motorola doesn't come out with a droid 3 or any other phone. would it be worth getting the Droid 2 or Droid X? i do love having a qwerty keyboard. but when it comes to hardware, processor, RAM, etc. what is the better phone?
Is it possible to use the wifi connection and still be able to make a call or recieve a call and text? i know you can't surf and talk at the same time on verizon's cdma network but i wonder if you can do that using the wifi connection
im upgrading from the samsung intensity. im getting this fone tomorrow!! thx for showing the touch texting i really like texting without the key bored. thx!
My home screen looks very different. It has true MotoBlur, and it doesn't pretend not to be. It's skinned very differently, and it doesn't look as much like stock Android as the UI in this video does. Why is this? I'm running 2.3.4. Did Motorola really ruin the Droid2 with MotoBlur when the 2.3.4 update rolled out?
@strikerk thank you for replay. i seriously want to go for android phone .. rather then iphone, i am not USA citizen , and in my country we buy unlocked phone and use .. and why are GSM phone are more expensive then same phone with cdma card ? i mean , i checked online price for droid 2 , it was around 400 USD, but motorola milestone 2 cost around 570USD .. its just market or there is technical difference .. beside cdma and gsm ... thank you for your time .. have a good day .
Thank you so much! I just ordered this from Verizon and am a bit nervous as I'm upgrading from a Palm Centro - obviously some major differences! But your reviews have given me some great info and helped me know what to expect. THANKS!
Good review, would have liked a width comparison between the Droid 1 and 2. Even if they might be the same.
Great job guys, I love these reviews.
Just bought this today and it's coming in, mailed in, on Monday. Hoping it's glorious and just an overall perfect phone.
Love your reviews, always thorough. But where is part 2?
@Mouthmusician Not smaller at all. Faster CPU, more storage, more homescreen widgets and social networking integration.
@MrSteelyRevolution4 It is much faster than the original, but otherwise much the same. I don't know if I would bother with an upgrade. Also, I use Sony Vegas for editing.
@Risket they are arrow keys, not a dpad.
@Jman460 because some people actually enjoy knowing that it comes with a usb cable, charger, case, manuals, CDs, or maybe even A CAR CHARGER. accessories are important to consider when buying a phone, as the carriers will charge $30 or more for a simple usb cable.
finally some nice footage of realistic usage scenarios. thank you for that!
@Newmarksupstar It is up now. Not much to talk about, though. It is there.
Nice phone! Would be a good upgrade from my regular droid!
May I also ask, what video editing software do you use?
@gingertilly18 No official announcement yet, but I think it is fairly safe to assume there will be an EU variant.
The keyboard does light up. It depends on the brightness of your area
This video just made me want to get this phone ever more just because you go into everything that I want to know.
Although I like the Droid 2 a lot internally the lack of a D Pad is a deal breaker for me, because you can't place the cursor to where you desire when you TXT its extremely useful to have. @TheKalynn9 no numbers, but u can download the pattern lock in the market or just simply youtube it.
how is the slider mechanism? i didnt like the un-assisted mechanism of android 1.
@eksplosyon Possible, but I didn't want to risk jumping to the TH-cam page, which is what happens if you just click on it.
@electronicTune
You should, it's called the Milestone 2. It should be out already.
EchoC860 you can use LauncherPro to change or get rid of the Moto UI. It's found in the Android App Market.
@163mike I strongly recomend having an internet conection via 3g or Wifi for a smartphone.Specially on this one. It's like having a good car with really bad tires.

@pebblestorm I think the blue thingies on the keys light up
what text notification tone did you select for it to say droid when you get a text at 10:13 ? I have tried to look for that one but I can't find it
You should do a review on the games and all the apps that come stock with the phone.
@Tyrossse yes it lights up greenish blue
looks nice, so the different is it's smaller or just the updates?
@Jr4594 They did make one, it's called the Droid Pro. Same thing as the Droid 2
make a comparison video of the droid x and droid 2
does the droid 2 record in hd?
n y didnt motorola include a front facing camera and 8 mp camera
This phone looks sick, getting it in a couple days.
hows the keyboard compared to droid 1? I wasnt a big fan of the droid 1 keyboard
it seems to me the iphone is more responsive when using the pinch to zoom and zoom out, and overall smoother, do you agree on this mobileburn?
I am trying to choose between Droid 2 Global and Droid Pro.

Me watching u, watching u. What a conundrum :)
Nice Droid..... I wonder if there will be a product refresh for the new s-dragons end of this year.....
@mobileburn Which phone, droid 2 and droid incredible, seems faster overall? And which seems to be smoother?
@czf21 Yea me too, I just got a Droid 2 a few days ago... and I'm guessing you got the Droid X?
Do you know if the camera features are the same as the X? and also is using the wifi on these phones free?
Instead of pinching to zoom on the embedded youtube video on the site, can't you just tap on it to go fullscreen?
Does it have the free tethering feature like the nexus one? It does have froyo and it is known to have that feature...
I accidentally dropped mine off a roller coaster a little over a year ago, still worked. Not even a scratch, a year later... still works fine, great phone in my opinion.
Is this phone similar to the new Mytouch Slide by Motorola for T-mobile?
@nbaballerking34 droid 1 has a 550mhz processor, droid 2 has a 1ghz processor amongst other things you can wiki
Michael, would you suggest the Droid 2 or Droid X?
i have a question to have the motorola droid do u need to hv the internet on the plan on it
I hopefully will be getting this in about 6 weeks , wonder if the price will drop any in that time?
Does the keyboard on this device suffer from the problem where the plastic de-adheres from the keys? The Droid 1 had this problem.
You'd probably have to use the Droid 2 for a couple months to actually see if it suffers from this problem or not..

Does the droid 2 have the same physical and bulky feel as the droid? And because of the raised keys, is it easier to type then the droid?
how do you switch to wifi connection? and if you switch to the wifi connection will that still eat up your data plan allowance if you have one ?
so the micro sd card is behind the battery cover?
@nepaliman
No, the Droid 2 is CDMA only so you won't be able to use your SIM.
However the new Droid 2 GLOBAL was released this week. That one is CDMA/GSM. It's the world's first worldwide android device. :) Wait for the Milestone Global.
How do I set the pattern unlock screen WITHOUT having to slide to unlock still?
Thanks for posting this video. I have an iPhone 4 and I must say that the voice search demo is very cool. Does this phone have multi-tasking capability?
is the keyboard flat like the old one
@21mxracer i do that but you cant listen to the music off your phone
does the droid 2 work in the droidd 1 dock and car dock?
I got this in white for Xmas. Love it.
SO which is better, the Android X or Android 2? And which came out first?
This was a very nice, and indepth review. THanks!
Would you recommend this over the LG Ally?
@BroncoFanForever1 too add what u said, the droid 2 has multiple bugs with is battery and other features, there were also cases of the battery melting and exploding so the droid 2 global fixed all of thoses bugs
one question is it possible to download the intua beatmaker on the droid 2?
Whats about the keyboard? is it ok? i mean, should i get the desire z oder this one? help me!!
hey does anyone know if existing droid 1 users can somehow upgrade to this phone? like with out need for a contract or anything
On a smart phone don't you need internet for it to work?
Does wide screen mode have a virtual keyboard at all?
@tenplex Haven't shot it yet.
do u get 2 each any of the phones and in ur opinion which is better the droid x or the droid2
Droid 2 or Droid X? My contract with verizon is almost up and I really can't decide. Is there any new droid phones coming out soon?
Is there a way I change my notification bar color?
@ro96lo I think for Europe its called the Milestone 2...
@SoccerJoshJ07 nt yet but soon.. cant wait
@FalloutProductions1 i was just going to say that hummingbird is three times than other cpus
fantastic handset, but what about TV OUT? FM Transmitter?
wait a minute. so if i have verizon wireless, then can i get the droid 2? or do i have to have motorola? im confused.
@ProudiPhoneOwner do you like your incredible? i bought the incredible also but kinda wishing i bought the droid 2 i think i would like a physical keyboard better
I am getting a new phone for christmas and i like the droid 2 but when 4g comes out it wont have it so should i get the droid 2 or the droid pro?
@GameMug droid 2 or r2d2 because of the battery life and the slide out keyboard
@jmhockey65 and is it $30 per phone or for the whole plan?
@TheCody013 My bad. Thanks for your input.
when do you think the incredible will be able to upgrade to 2.2
you do great reviews, good work.
Is that the real box when you buy it in stores? it's too small..
Excellent review. Nice overview of features BEFORE I commit to buy. Thank you-
im thinking about getting this phone if you buy it already used can you just set up calling or does it have to have texting, and internet already set up??? please tell me
will it cost extra to use this phone as a mobile hot spot? how much do the keys stick out compared to the original droid? does it have a better resolution than the droid x?
Thank you for your time buddy! Much obliged!

I have the Droid 2 will it be better to change it to the Droid 2 global? Please help....
I can't wait to get mine tomorrow! :)
Is it possible to use the wifi connection and still be able to make a call or recieve a call and text? i know you can't surf and talk at the same time on verizon's cdma network but i wonder if you can do that using the wifi connection

im upgrading from the samsung intensity. im getting this fone tomorrow!! thx for showing the touch texting i really like texting without the key bored. thx!
Does this phone touch easy like an iPhone. You know like very sensitive.
My home screen looks very different. It has true MotoBlur, and it doesn't pretend not to be. @strikerk
