I disagree, as a Santos fan, and someone who was always at the stadium watching him, before his injured in 2011, he was very mobile, he even was leading Brazilians national league in tackles (over defenders). For me it’s clear the injury on his knee was a big factor for his decline.

I watched him up close and like many other Brazilians, we all saw him as equal to or even better than Neymar at many points. The issue is that his game is outdated and many other players with skillsets that are similar also struggle in Europe. The lack of work rate and injuries made it so he couldn’t adapt at all. Not to mention his ridiculous ego. To this day he’s still hated by many because he seems to think that he’s in any way special. So you can imagine what it was like when being compared to Zidane.
As a Brazilian and Santos FC fan, I can guarantee you that everyone expected more from Ganso than Neymar, Ganso was amazing before his Sad injure, till this day you can see some glances of his greatness but he lost all his speed and explosiveness. Nice to see international channels talking about Ganso. And you did your research really well, but I just wish you had mentioned the key games for Sevilla that made him look horrible. I remember one in particular that was against Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu. His laziness got exposed when he got his big chance and then it was downhill from there. I'm a São Paulo fan and he was the most frustrating player I've ever seen in sports. He was a good 1v1 tackler, maybe he could have adapted his game to a contending midfielder role, but he was sluggish and was easily guarded because of his lack of movement. (Like Seedorf says. They were comparing Ganso to Pirlo and talking how he could play Pirlo's role, then Seedorf said something like "no, no, no. Pirlo moves a lot. It might not look like he does but he does. Ganso doesn't"). He also knew how to shoot a ball but never really trained to become a freekick specialist, which would have made him a more valuable piece even if he lacked the intensity. But the worst part was how he would have 2 genius games, displaying his top notch vision and close relationship with the ball, and then 10 below average games in a row lol this lack of consistency defined his days before he became garbage. Now he's constantly bad and hasn't played for Fluminense in months (injury and coach's option), but back then he would deceive fans. If he had more work ethic and practiced free kicks, he could have become a one footed (his right foot really wasn't good) Walmart version of De Bruyne. Honestly, this would have been more than enough to become a force in Brazilian football and maybe even become a decent player in Europe.

Ganso teared his Anterior cruciate ligament in both left and right knees, this ligament is responsible for knee and leg stablity. its basically impossible to perform in high level when you're submitted to an injury like that. At the end of the day, the pure natural #10 is a role which has almost disappeared. If you are a natural #10 in modern football, it will be very difficult to succeed unless you are willing to work very hard and to adapt to other creative roles on the pitch such as winger, support striker, raumdeuter, midfielder, etc. like many players have done

I remember Neymar hype very well at Santos, Ganso was still wanted by many European clubs but Neymar being younger, fresher and because of that got bigger attention from general public. I personally think Neymar stint at Santos is very underrated moment of modern football, it is not even being mentioned by press and public how much he has achieved so early in his career. In my honest opinion, Ganso's playstyle was a little bit outdated for Europe even then, mid-tier defenders knew how to defend against it, coaches at big clubs did not use players like him anymore. Sure, he could have work his playstyle around, to adept and improve but that requires another level of sacrifice which he wasn't willing to take. If he only played football in 90's, early 00's, he would have pretty nice stint in Europe but by the time he actually emerged, Europe had enough of that playstyle and clubs/coaches asked for something different. As a brazilian is not laziness. His knee injury has taken most of his talent. I'm São Paulo supporter and he played to my team after Santos and healed his injury but he was never the same. It's clear to many altough no one public acknowledge that Ganso just kept in football/soccer the way he could to prolong his carreer in big teams as long as he can to earn sufficient for his retirement. Dude gave all his life to the sport and problably it's all he knows to do well. Some people don't like him, think he's self entitled but all his career he wasn't invoveld in any controversial, neither had partied hard. He had always left his family far from the public eye (he's married with kid and I've seen them only once on TV). In this context he's different from others like Neymar. He is also very short in words when giving interviews...and I personally think he also had severe emotional problems after his injury. He used to have more joy, he became a different person after his health problems.

It wasn't lazyness, he had an serious injurie in 2010 and since them suffer with various other muscular injuries that committed his physic. He simply can't play as intense as other players do, in his place, many would have retired. If something, he has a beast mentality
I remember being a kid watching ganso playing at Santos, there was not a single game where he would not impress me, the biggest talent he has is the capability to read the game. He always saw more than one possibility, he would make a passing choice no one else was expecting. even after the injuries I hyped him because of this, when the game seemed lost, he would find a pass or a long range shoot that could change everything.
Ganso couldn't move. As modern football got quicker, he couldn't hang. If he adapted his game like Juan Roman Riquelme did, he'd be an all-time great. It's such a shame.

You should do a video about Muricy Ramalho, the coach you quoted on the video. He has a amazing story and a deep connection with São Paulo the team with most international trophies in Brazil. He started being ellected in a "Who will be the new Pelé" contest as the winner and played for São Paulo, then became a coach for São Paulo on it´s best days in recent history and now he´s the "Soccer Manager". He also was the coach who debuted Neymar and has a very unique perspective of his career.

He really did lack pace in his game. But he was so technically gifted I always felt the right European league (serie A maybe) would suit him. He's still been a very successful Brazilian footballer. May not be a super star like Neymar, but his accolades in Brazil are not to be slept on

As a Santos supporter from a family of Santos supporters (Dad always talks about getting a train to watch Pelé play) Ganso was great, even greater than Neymar for sometime. BUT, he was quite unstable: some huge matches followed by some hidding from the game, some would call he was "sleeping in the field". He had some injuries but I think that the worst enemy for PH Ganso was mental health. But he missed the chance to cativate São Paulo rivals when got there, but was spot on on pissing Santos. He was a great art piece in confection from 2008-2010... somewhere in 2011 it broke down and never was the same, or half of it, or even less than that. It was like he was changed with a twin, that could handle the ball well, but not near.

In my honest opinion, Ganso's playstyle was a little bit outdated for Europe even then, mid-tier defenders knew how to defend against it, coaches at big clubs did not use players like him anymore. Sure, he could have work his playstyle around, to adept and improve but that requires another level of sacrifice which he wasn't willing to take. If he only played football in 90's, early 00's, he would have pretty nice stint in Europe but by the time he actually emerged, Europe had enough of that playstyle and clubs/coaches asked for something different.

What Neymar did in Santos will go down as Brazilian history . But in comparison to actual football in the 21st century it’s nothing. Since Neymar came to Europe almost a decade ago he’s only scored 150 goals , and his form for Brazil slowed down tremendously. If Neymar stayed in Brazil he’d be at 700 goals rn .. but are those goals worth more then Messi’s, Ronaldo’s etc.. absolutely not

Ironically, I'm a Fluminense fan and have to watch this hurt and underdeveloped version of the player wearing my club's colours. But you are right. For sure Paulo Henrique has achieved what many players will never reach through their careers!

As a brazilian is not laziness. His knee injury has taken most of his talent. I'm São Paulo supporter and he played to my team after Santos and healed his injury but he was never the same. It's clear to many altough no one public acknowledge that Ganso just kept in football/soccer the way he could to prolong his carreer in big teams as long as he can to earn sufficient for his retirement. Dude gave all his life to the sport and problably it's all he knows to do well. Some people don't like him, think he's self entitled but all his career he wasn't invoveld in any controversial, neither had partied hard. He had always left his family far from the public eye (he's married with kid and I've seen them only once on TV). In this context he's different from others like Neymar. He is also very short in words when giving interviews...and I personally think he also had severe emotional problems after his injury. He used to have more joy, he became a different person after his health problems.
It's ironic cause Neymar is regarded as one of the laziest in modern football.

It wasn't lazyness, he had an serious injurie in 2010 and since them suffer with various other muscular injuries that committed his physic. He simply can't play as intense as other players do, in his place, many would have retired. If something, he has a beast mentality

I remember being a kid watching ganso playing at Santos, there was not a single game where he would not impress me, the biggest talent he has is the capability to read the game. He always saw more than one possibility, he would make a passing choice no one else was expecting. even after the injuries I hyped him because of this, when the game seemed lost, he would find a pass or a long range shoot that could change everything.
I remember Ganso not because he is great, but he was a beast talent in old FIFA game.

Tô be fair his injuries really broke the guy. He was a genius, but I believe his mind got broken after he realized that he wouldn't be transfered to a huge club as Neymar were. So after injuries and bad choices, his brilliance was gone.

As an AC Milan supporter, I remember talk about him being Kaka's heir. Not sure how credible that ever was, but it was exciting to think of him with Milan but in a weird turn of events he ended up signing for Sao Paolo. It would have been nice to see him team up with Pato.

You should do a video about Muricy Ramalho, the coach you quoted on the video. He has a amazing story and a deep connection with São Paulo the team with most international trophies in Brazil. He started being ellected in a "Who will be the new Pelé" contest as the winner and played for São Paulo, then became a coach for São Paulo on it´s best days in recent history and now he´s the "Soccer Manager". He also was the coach who debuted Neymar and has a very unique perspective of his career.

As a Santos supporter from a family of Santos supporters (Dad always talks about getting a train to watch Pelé play) Ganso was great, even greater than Neymar for sometime. BUT, he was quite unstable: some huge matches followed by some hidding from the game, some would call he was "sleeping in the field". He had some injuries but I think that the worst enemy for PH Ganso was mental health.
But he missed the chance to cativate São Paulo rivals when got there, but was spot on on pissing Santos.
He was a great art piece in confection from 2008-2010... somewhere in 2011 it broke down and never was the same, or half of it, or even less than that.
It was like he was changed with a twin, that could handle the ball well, but not near.
i cheer for Sao Paulo and was a pleasure to see him on for my favorite team on that 2016 Libertadores, he's such a genius
