If you are new here we are Rae & Andrew Bright and in 2021 we discovered this beautiful island and decided to follow our dream of retiring early, selling everything we own in the UK and buying a property here in Madeira to renovate. This video is part 12 of our property renovation where we have shared the highs and lows of our renovation journey and in today's video you can join us in a tour of the final transformation of our abandoned house becoming our dream home by the ocean. We discovered a gem of a furniture shop in Funchal - Bambu. A family run business with a big showroom where you can choose the items for your home but they will also make items to order. Everything is hand made from bamboo, perfect if you love natural and organic furniture for your home. Follow them on instagram and if you are in Funchal pay them a visit!

What a journey! You definitely gave life to this beautiful house and transformed keeping the character and made it more functional. The materials are fantastic and specially the glass which clears up the beautiful views you have from any direction. Well worth all the effort and pacience to achieve perfection. To me the kitchen lacks the view you spend your life in it not the bedroom! The house remodel is stunning.

What a beautiful property! Very tastefully done. We've been following you since the beginning of your journey. My wife and I visited the island a few months ago, looking at properties (ruins and turn-keys, houses and apartments), getting our NIF's, opening a bank account, and exploring the wonders of Madeira. We drove past the house during our circumnavigation of the island. What a stunning setting. Very peaceful and quiet. You have greatly inspired us. Fantastic house and location, but you'll regret the glass railing on the sea, hell to clean. You definitely need some colorful art in the living room... but it's probably still a work in progress, let us see it again in a year. 😉

What a gorgeous home you renovated. Will you consider doing a video on your budget and how your experience was with the workers and those involved with your renovation project? We are on the lookout for our next home as well and have considered the Algarve. We want to do something similar to what you both did.

We actually chose not to have land after looking after a big garden in England for many years. We do however benefit from the generosity of our neighbours when they have excess produce to share!

Amazing! Congrats! I was nearly everywhere (Teignmouth in Devon long ago included, to improve my Argentina English as a schoolboy in Hamburg). After becoming a widower in 2017 in Argentina, I resettled in Coimbra in December 2021. In November to December 2022 I broke my own records, I compared everything. Argentina (Buenos Aires and Tigre, soccer madness) > Nueva Palmira, Piriápolis for Xmas, Montevideo > São Paulo > Lisbon > Coimbra (to leave my stuff) > Porto > Madeira Airport to see the world-famous fireworks in Funchal. The following night in Achada de Gaula was for oblivion, but the 10 days that followed in Santa Cruz made me fall in love with Madeira, my dream. I went to Ponta do Sol, Ribeira Brava, Monte, etc. Every times I mingled with locals, I don't like touristy things, the fireworks were a bit like that. I was told that the north coast was cold, but I saw you had a banana tree. Banana trees don't like very low temperatures. For the start of 2024 I must explore the north coast, and in-between again Argentina. My EU passport makes everything easy. My dream is to live in Madeira in 2024 or 2025. Congratulations again!

We know most people want to live in the South but we fell in love with the North coast from our first visit. We were lucky to buy our home in Ponta Delgada, a micro climate making it a little warmer for the North!

Question is, how do you deal with Mosquitoes, with an open plan house? We have nets everywhere and they still get in. Cant go out after 6 pm as I get bit to death lol.

Amazing views that will lift your spirits every day. Well done on a great job. I did a similar oceanfront house and my only regret was using too much glass on the outside edges/balconies. I got tired of constantly cleaning a hundred feet of glass and, when the glass, eventually, fell victim to the ravages of the ocean spray, I replaced it with braided stainless steel wire. It didn't spoil the view.

We are talking about doing a cost video but not sure it’s of any help... Madeira property prices have shot up and UK prices gone down since we bought. We would be priced out of the market if we were trying to do this now.

I am from Madeira Island-Funchal...and never lived there. My parents decided to go to Brazil when I was only 3 months baby!. I went to visit my island (place of birth) for the firts time when I was 30 years old. To live there is my biggest dream. I grew up in love for Madeira!. What is funny is....I live in the UK (the place you are from) 🥰. I've been living here since 2006 ...(almost 18 years).
