DirectTv 771 error fix loss signal

  • This is for informational reasons only, I'm not a professional but this did the trick for me. All the nuts I adjusted used a 1/2" socket. There are little numbers or lines in the near the adjustments.

    Thank you, my friend. We got the 771 error, and tried rebooting the box with no joy. I found your post and it made sense to me, so I adjusted my antenna elevation by several degrees. It fixed all stations we had lost and boosted signal strength. I figure that over time, wind blew against the antenna to make the elevation increase deletoriously, so bringing it back fixed the problem. Thanks again.

    The wind moved mine a little to the right. I didnt touch the screws. I just pulled it slightly left and BAM!!!!! Back in business.

    Thank you. This absolutely worked. Installer mounted a heavy dish to a wooden board that is obviously warping. I have this issue after every heavy rain.

    They are called dithering screws and the elevation screw on the left has 2 lock nuts , the azimuth screw on the right has a lock nut on the top of the bracket.

    If your satellite dish has any locking nuts up/down or side to side use a magic marker or paint pen to first mark the original positions before making any adjustment that way you can always come back to the original positions if it turns out to be a different problem.

    you missed the locking screw on the top for side to side adjustment or azimuth. Sometimes all the dish needs is a minor adjustment especially if it was not mounted as firmly as it should've or any movement in the structure as the house settles

    Both elevation and Azimuth have bolts that lock them into place... the bolt on the top of the back assembly is the lock for the azimuth.. If you go cranking on the adjustment screws with everything tightened down, you can ruin the back assembly, rendering it useless. Either way, in this video, it is showing that the dish is improperly mounted, and i would suggest having a technician come out and move it so you don't have this problem again in the future..

      did u use the 9501-9509 channels to know which to adjust? my channels 9504 is showing 771

      +nationsmostwanted I my 9506 wasn't working. All I did was pivot the dish up super slightly while the TV was turned on one of the error channels (for me it was 278 and the mtvs). Then they started working so I tightened the lock nut in place.

    It should've never been mounted to that wood post to begin with..... Open wood warps over time....

    Dish should be mounted on roof pole or s tube mount to the side of a wood pillar

    every time i hit my cable box from dusting i lose my channels but takein out the plug and plug it back after a couple of times then it does its thing and works .... so what i want to know is why when the box is moved just a little channel loss, ?     I do not have Hd dish.Code came up called service went thru steps they said dish need alignment.My tv only showed some channels but kept showing Hd next to some channels and I do not have Hd.I went to settings then display then preferences and clicked hide Hd channels and few minutes later all channels worked again do not know how got messed up.But works.

    I get channels just fine my problem is the channels will not flip back or forward in a timely manner! Most of the time its fine and then it will not change channels and when you type the number it won't work! Then next day its fine!

    keep getting 771 signal and losing signal at the smallest sign of rain. Direct tv has come out numerous times and is claiming software issues with the genie. Have two neighbors (one across the street and one that's two doors down) that never lose signal so its just me. I've had direct tv for 4 years and this issue just started 1 year ago. My signal used to stay through heavy thunderstorms but now goes out during cloudy days. DTV claims software issues but no problems with my neighbors. of course this all started right after I re uped my 2 year deal. Have less than 6 months left and if this doesn't get fixed during fooball season (renewed NFL package) I'm done with DTV

      I am a Field Technician Supervisor for DirecTV. i would recommend that when the next tech comes out that you have him swap out your Gene (if you have one) to a gene HR54 and have them run a new Coax Cable to your gene. and redo the dish.

      Your dish can be warped. If it was working well, but now it's not it could have been warped or bent around the time it became sensitive. Or, if it was not locked properly it could have been knocked offline.

    Lost local channels due to contract negotiations, spoke with customer support on 4 different occasions and all i got was attitude and "well those are free channels you dont pay for them anyway."
    Then when i asked for a supervisor he was even worse, President Trump needs to bring the customer service back to America these people DON'T SPEAK ENGLISH AND REALLY DON'T CARE, BUT IT'S AT&T THERE'S THE PROBLEM..
    Then I was finally offered a movie package because I informed them I was contacting my Lawyer and going to drop their services, but the supervisor that turned on the package messed up everything had to be transferred to technical support. What a joke been with Directv for over 15 years plus and they still treat me like crap...
    Guess they think I won't drop them like a hot potato or spread the word that they treat their customers like crap.

    not even close. disregarding the fact that the settings are different where ever you live in the states, but pulling on the dish itself is a good way to bend or break something. techs can tell, and that would go down as customer caused. you are point at, in your case, 3 objects thousands of miles away. you need someway to measure it. Pay the 50 bucks and get it adjusted. or sign up for the protection plan.

    First of all the dish is not properly mounted. if it was properly mounted you would rarely ever get the 771 error code

    I do not pay for direct tv at my house my brother does. We get the 771 error all the time. Paid good money to get HD TV's and cant get HD most of the time, have to switch to SD and that works part time. Weather? Beautiful blue skies and sunny. Direct TV says that the problem is from the transmitting station in Georga is having storms and that is why are reception is bad...FLAT OUT LIE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll be calling the BBB to report AT&T and Sue for Stolen Service and to back monies paid to them by thousands of customers.

      +Matt Donaldson Because even though its fixed, it will move very slightly. Over a few years, it usually needs realigned.

      Yeah, sounds like a P poor installation a tech made unless you had a tornado go by and even then it is their problem. I would put a stripe of Torque Seal or a dab of paint on each bolt that the tech had installed with he/she/it watching.
