For directions to this difficult-to-find trailhead and for links to hikes to the highest 3 peaks in the Huachucas, click the "Show more..." link above.

Another great video of a wonderful hike! I agree, (Upper) Huachuca Canyon Trail is one of the nicest trails on Fort Huachuca. It is well-constructed, not overly steep, and goes through a beautiful area. I'll put a request in here: if anyone has photos of the lookout that used to stand on Huachuca Peak, I would love to see them! And thanks, Karen, for promoting my book!!

I'm always happy to mention your book. Only someone with a real love of these mountains would go through the great effort to write a hiking/history guide of them. And it's complete and accurate, unlike the information about the Huachucas in AllTrails. Hopefully a photo of the lookout will turn up sometime.

I enjoy your videos and as a new resident of AZ, gives me lots of places to go locally AND as a Mini Cooper owner, appreciate you giving insight to the road conditions! Thank you

Nice series on the Huachucas. I've been hiking and backpacking in that range since 1977 when stationed at Ft. Huachuca. Back then, Miller Peak still had a forest fire lookout cabin. It was tore down in the mid-90's when Miller Peak Wilderness was established. The cabin (not on a tower) was left unlocked during the off fire season. They removed the fire sighter and emptied the propane tanks. But, the wood burning stove was plenty enough to keep warm during the winter. More than once I stayed in that cabin during monsoons and watched as lightning traveled from cloud to cloud. On occasion, you could see when the copper mine at Cananea, Mexico would pour their glowing molten copper from one vat to another. I used to do a loop that went from Ramsey Vista campground to Carr Peak to Bear Spring then down Wisconsin Canyon to upper Ramsey Canyon then back to Ramsey Vista via Comfort Spring. About 12 miles and one or two nights depending on how much time I could spend.

You have a lot of experience in the Huachucas!

You are talking about a cabin at the top (peak) or lower down in the creek? There is a little cabin that's all messed up next to a mine shaft, then a stope, then another collasped stope about 1 mile past the last camp site.

@@socialentropy2993 I'm talking about the now demolished fire lookout on Miller Peak in the Huachucas. If you do a Google image search, you'll see a photo of it on the first page of the image search. It was torn down in the mid 90's.

The McClure Canyon route is a good one, and I need to make a better video of that route. When the weather is right maybe we go that way?

Yes, we do! We could zip right up Huachuca Canyon, no problem.
