As many of you will probably know by now we have a cat that we wish to take on the road with us. This week Lou goes solo in the van and wild camps around the north kent coast. Trying to get used to travelling with a cat and hoping she likes it as much as our dog AJ does.
Travelling with a cat, and a dog, is probably not going to be an easy task, but we are hoping they can adapt to living in our self built campervan and can come on the road with us when we eventually get to vanlife Europe.
The bigger challenge may be finding good park ups post lockdown, campervans are not easy to find a space for at the best of times, let alone now, when feelings towards them are still a little tense!
Vanlife UK is definitely appealing, but maybe one for next year?

Leaving your wife at home and travelling with a cat would, if done by someone else, be a pretty boring video. Not with you two though! The format was great; cutting to Em at work and at home, the food theme, the superb camera work (especially with Summer) the B roll and editing, the humour and disappointment - topped off with the split-screen bit at the end, made this a most enjoyable and easy to watch episode. Well done Lou and Em. You guys rock!

Hi, Great Vid as always, Park-up's in the Garden can be a nightmare especially with all the height barriers & No Camper / Overnight going up daily so always best to have a plan C etc.

I thought this was a cool video , you ladies are so much fun . So relatable , both of you . I am a foodie and greedy sometimes too . Your van is so adorable . I think about living van life too sometimes . I just love how you gals fixed the van up yourselves and you both did an amazing job . The thing I love most about the both you is your love of your fur babies . Summer is so sweet , I love Tuxedo Cats and I have had a few and they are usually pretty smart , very loyal and loving. I thought it really showed the special relationship you have when you were comforting Summer and she rubbed her face on you and leaned into you . Sort of a hug from a cat . Precious , okay keep up the good work and have a great time out there everyone !!!

Lou, a solution to not washing up sauces, make sure you leave half a slice of bread until the end, then wipe around bowl with bread and eat. so clean just rinse and leave to dry on the rack. hey presto.

So that's how you started with your cat. We are getting a harness too, it seems the best way of giving her some freedom but still being able to stop her running off or getting into danger. I’m still in the research 🧐 mode at the moment and looking to be building a CamperVan (Ford L4 H3 Transit Van 🚐) at some point next year. So as you can imagine I’ve watched a load of vids, but, must be honest here, this the best video I’ve watched to date. Totally epic vid me darlings bloody awesome 😎 lol 😆 hugs 🤗 💋

Another brilliant vlog, we are what you might call some of your older ( let's say ancient) fans. I am essentially a grumpy old man so Louise we should get on just fine. Totally agree with you about the van parking in the uk, it's only going to get worse. We have just come back from two months in France in our self built sprinter, Brittany, Bordeaux, Carcasonne and the Pyrenees, so much easier than the uk and the roads are so smooth, (no rattles) You will love it when you get there. We had to come back because our health insurance was withdrawn. Hopefully get back later in the year.

I have a couple of friends who moved onto a boat full time with their cat. They've travelled around all over Europe and their cat seems to have settled down nicely so hopefully you'll be fine.
By the way, we appear to have the same pothole face 🤣🤣

The Indie Projects have got a cat called Gingey. He is so chilled in the van its funny to watch him. So hopefully Summer can become used to van life in a few weeks too👍

Lengthen the harness lead so she can peek over the the shelf to see out. Some cats develop car/motion sickness from not been able to see outside. In other films you show her looking out windows. You could always add a low cateye/fisheye window at floor level/bed level. If you want to let her free. Pet stores ofter sell netting that can be used in van to prevent pet from going to driver front seat.
Thanks cyn, if I'd have lengthened tah lead she gould get off of the bed and then be swinging down lol! I think things will be much easier when my other half is with me in the van, she can have a bit more freedom then 😁👍

Hi! Where is the place with the picnic benches at 32:00? We have a converted minibus and live in Ramsgate so we know it's really difficult to find anywhere to even stop in the Kent countryside, let alone park overnight. Most of the coastal roads around Thanet are 'No Motor Caravans 6pm-6am' too but there's plenty of nearby side roads to park in overnight.

Grrrreat vid, on point editing . Kent coastline looks lovely, pity about the parking restrictions. Lass after my own heart ( nature , woods et al ! ) . Summer is absolutely beautiful! We walk all 3 of ours on leads and some days they want to explore and other days they just want to sit under the van as well. Plus our fluffy two (who are also slightly tubby) look like they are bursting out of their leads as well haha! You crack us up, you guys are like us, anyone watching from the outside would assume we don't like each other but its all banter and love! and then you throw the odd 'twat' and such in when you talk and we're like yes! our kind of people haha. Hope it goes well with Summer in the van x

I can't agree more Lou Kent is totally outlawing wild camping and I can foresee problems with self builds in set motorhome bays before long as well and I have also had problems with a traffic warden at Reculver as well for being a self build . I can park on my brothers drive in birchington or mates drive in Ramsgate but wouldn't try parking Winterstoke way or East Cliff after reading latest comments on park4nite but coming from Ramsgate I have friends and family there . I'll have to look up that hideaway you found we only have a T4 so should be fine . Sorry about late response I only found your channel in Jan and was doing a bit of binge watching .
Don't bother with Southend either as they have banned overnight stops as well . I think Scotland or Europe will be the only options soon .
It's going to be a hard time especially once lockdown lifts and Summer comes, we will have to see what happens 🙂🙂👍
I have a spider in my wing mirror that's very well acclimatised to vanlife. :)
Dammit, knew we should of gone for a spider, far more adaptable than cats, and it would actually catch the flies that get in the van! 🤣🤣

The HS2000 works fine, lasts about 32 hours on 4.5kg ( we don't have a gas tank) if it was on all the time ( obviously it's not as its on a thermostat) so probably lasts twice as long. (64hrs, we have it on low at night ( about 16dg) or off as we cannot sleep if too hot. We chose gas heating as we originally had lead acid batteries and diesel heaters draw 10 to 12a on start up (glow plug) so we were concerned we would run out of battery power if parked for a few days in January when it's -8dg. Now we have lithium so loads of power to run a diesel heater, decided to fit one now because if we go to Spain in January we could not carry enough gas for cooking, water heating and heating for two months especially if parked up for days at a time and the weather turns cold. hate being cold

Travelling with a dog is a challenge in itself so doing it with a cat too is I guess just another chapter in that challenge. Another brilliant video with loads of laughs 😁👍🏼

You want to walk a dwarf lop eared rabbit through a town centre on a daily basis as use to live in a flat and the partner at the time insisted the rabbit needed walking. To make it worse the rabbit had a pink harness and lead🤦♂️

Traveling with cats can be nervewrecking, had a trip with two, stuck in a thunderstorm on the motorway, that was no fun...
I think Summer needs more experience with driving around and adapting to new places everytime you stop, you can tell from her big eyes that she's very excited.

Rattle roads are standard here in Germany, not even the side roads, even the main ones are destroyed as well, somewhere the money has to go, streets are no priority...

Rely on park4night, it gave me a nice place two weeks ago in mid-Berlin, right to the river Spree, I would have never found it by myself...

It surprises me that the roads are so bad in Germany, the Germans usually look after things like that much better than we do in the UK. Park4night is a great app, although I think our council may be using it as a guide of where to put their signs and barriers 😂

Kent isn't that bad as for park ups there is loads just need to do the research great vlog
I live here, the crack down is getting quite bad, new height barriers going in, loads of new signs going up, I spent nearly a whole day driving round one day and found not a lot. Like I said, lots of places to park, not many that were very nice. Kent is fairly big tho, but where I was it wasn't all that easy and I grew up here!

You need a diesel heater there brilliant were saving for ours now for the winter, hope she settles in to the van , we are thinking of taking our cat along with us but if he doesnt take to it it will be granny babysitting from time to time

Good insight for those looking to travel with pets(especially cats).I noticed you were using Heinz soup which is the most expensive, have you tried some of the supermarket ones? Aldi do some good ones and about a third of the price. Take care both of you. 😁

I wonder how small businesses feel about have travellers pushed out and made to feel unwelcome. Maybe they don't realise all the potential moneys they are missing out on. Van lifers should get small businesses on their side. Odd rant! Just a thought. Cute cat.
I think the big impact will be next year. The usual vanners won't want to go and the newer ones that are destroying hot spots will either be skint or back in magaluf etc. Only time will tell I guess. So far, we have found that small businesses are very welcoming 😁

How spooky is that? We have a Propex HS 2000 in pur van and today I am fitting a Chinese 2kw diesel heater as backup ready for our trip to Spain in January (covid permitting. Told you we would get on, ( same piss taking outlook on life)
How's the hs2000 doing? I'm dying to know how long our lpg will last if we are running one! Definitely worth having a back up tho, nothing worse than being freezing!
Campervan heaters aren't cheap just get a diesel heater the fuel lasts forever, two heaters is excessive ! (imo)

Can I ask, as I don't think I saw it anywhere in the build series, but what was the amount of headroom you got in the van and wondered about how long you managed to make the bed as I know you got quite a thickness of insulation in the walls

@@andyp6909 I've got 185cm standing room in the middle (I put a 15mm floor on top of the 12mm ply too which I don't think I ever showed) and then I've got 179cm length bed.

No problem, definitely make the bed longer if you can, it's a bit tight for me, I'm 5'7". I could have got mine 50mm longer tho, I put my bettens on the faces of the metal support beams, if I'd have put them on top I could have gained a bit.

If your planning on travel in Europe then you will need spare headlight bulb 💡 kit as well as fire extinguisher, first aid kit, breathalyser, warning ⚠️ triangle, high viz for each person and headlight adjusters. You can buy a complete kit from Halfords. They are a legal requirement especially in France 🇫🇷 👍

Hi may, as I understand the law it states that pets must be 'suitably restrained' so she doesn't have to be in a basket, just unable to distract me whilst driving. She HATES the cat basket and I feel it would distress her to do longer journeys in it, hence why we are going down the harness route. Hopefully she will soon be used to it 😁
