I'm a Canadian girl right from Toronto and I grew up calling it Sponge Toffee, the bulk barn here in Canada sells it and they sell it as sponge toffee. The crunchie bar is my FAV!!!!!!! I'm going to try this as soon as I get a candy thermometer. Thanks for the video I LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos!
Oh my! I remember, about 10 years ago, my father went away on a business trip. When he got back he brought me and my brothers presents and candy bars. This was one of them. I haven't had one of those since then. Cadbury is extremely hard to find where I live. I didn't even remember the name of those. You just brought me vivid memories of my childhood. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your amazing back catalogue of recipes. I tend to only do candy making around holidays, so I come back every year to remind myself of the visual cues, particularly for recipes like this where the steps really matter! I appreciate you :)
WOW, just made this and it was a complete success, it has made 2 large dishes. I have had a few attempts at making this honeycomb but it never rose like this, I substitute vanilla extract for almond, and I must say, even though I made it myself, ITS FANTASTIC. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS WITH US, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
So happy to find this. I was born in Toronto Canada, lived there until I was 7 then we moved to the States...I always remembered that sponge candy and how much I loved it and then years and years later I found it covered in chocolate at a candy store...and then eventually, at World Market packaged by Cadbury. It's not available just anywhere. My memory of it as a child was with no chocolate and we called it sponge candy, not honeycomb. I find all this debate about the name amusing...it's just so good! As one person below put it with a Shakespearean twist,, candy by any other name is still as sweet...Thank you so much for posting this recipe!
Years ago, my friends mom gave me a crunchie bar and it was the most delicious thing I'd ever had but I never was able to think of the name all these years later. Thank you sooooo much for sharing this recipe! I just made a batch and am waiting for it to cool down so I can dip them in chocolate and transport back to my childhood. I'll leave another comment when I'm all done to let you know how I did! thanks again! I love your channel and subbed!
Thank you for the fantastic recipe!!! I have tried so many honeycomb recipes and they are always chewy rather than crunchy, this came out perfect!!! :D
I used to go to a candy store in Solvang, CA and got this exact candy covered in dark chocolate. It never made it home :P I'm never able to find it now that I moved to VA and I've missed it a lot. I can't thank you enough for this recipe!! I never knew what it was called and now I know it's many names. But best of all... I can make it myself!! You have made me very happy ... thank you!!!!
Hey mom... I definitely remember out times going out there to eat the chocolate covered honey comb in Solvang. They do make this in the shop in King George too, Mary's something (down that road behind the bank). It's not quite the same, but it looks like this recipe might end up a lot more like what we remember. We should make it together sometime. :D
Just made these! First time ever using a candy thermometer. Its sitting now. Im excited. First time I have followed one of your recipes, though I always watch.
I love crunchie bars too , so just made this . Thanks for ingredients I never relised how easy it would be ! My grandchildren will be well pleased to have a small bag of this, If there’s any left 😋
Yum, I love seafoam (what I know this heaven to be called). I had some at the beach earlier this week and was determined to try making it at home. The kind I had was covered in dark chocolate with sea salt sprinkled on top. Thanks for the recipe!
I used to find it some apple stands in New England but I haven't been able to find it. I'm glad that I found a recipe that I can finally make it at home.
My grandma used to make this, and it's been my favourite for years. Thank you for the recipe! I'm hoping I can make this for my fiance so he can get a peek into my childhood.
yoyomax12 - the diet free zone No, I just think the name SPONGE TOFFEE is a Canadian name for the SAME delicious stuff we eat in Europe & America! OTHER "names" for it? Honeycomb, Sweet Seafoam, Hokey Pockey (sp?), Spun Sugar Comb...I'm sure in Africa, India or China it may be called somethig else. But, still is the SAME thing! LOL
BRAVO! Yes, it is basically prepared the same way in every country. The only thing that may change is the NAME! :0) I AGREE with you...it is still DELICIOUS! I'm working on a LOW SUGAR version for Diabetics. I utilize "sugar free" honey when I prepare it, along with Splenda's Brown Sugar Blend. The secret is getting the correct quantity of sugar & honey incorporated to react with the baking soda. Sugar Free items work a bit different than table sugar.
Everyone in my area calls that type of candy "sea foam", and it can only be found in the nice candy/chocolate shops where everything is crazy expensive; I'm so glad to find out how easy it is to make! ^-^
I always thought hokey pokey was chunks of butterscotch? It never ceases to amaze me how differently named the same things are around the world - but still in the same language! :)
KeemaMUA right! I think it's so funny to hear people call cookies biscuts. In America biscuts are a buttery flakey bread. It's so funny and interesting
Hi Yoyomax cool video in the uk we call the sponge toffee cinder toffee :) it's like a seaside treat other than that we do also have crunchys and we do call it honeycomb too :) x
If you add roasted peanuts and stir in at the end, it would add another edge to a fine recipe. Friend of mine as a child, visited the Fry’s factory in the UK ( they were made by Fry’s before, Cadbury had them) with the school in the 1950’s, before Health and Safety issues. He loved Crunches, while they all walked round the factory and was freely given samples of the product from the production line, by the end of the tour there was 24 children feeling very delicate. He told me that was the last time he craved a Crunchy
I loved this candy when I was a kid. We used to buy it as a chocolate bar and sometimes fresh without the chocolate. I thought it was real honeycomb when I was a kid, and that it came from the hive ;-)
Crunchies have never been my fave but I used to get them as a kid when I wanted something that would last me longer than a Coffee Crisp or Kit Kat... Sponge toffee is so nice to take a little bite of and just let it melt on your tongue! I may have to try this :)
I wanta make peanut brittle like this, it’s softer. I hate raw peanuts in brittle and way way less peanuts in my brittle. Wish me luck. I made it with luck, needed more nuts but, iam a pro now. Just followed directions with no candy thermometer. Just cold water bowl like on her other vid. Don’t use raw peanuts, just by a hand full of packs or regular eating peanuts from quick stop. Use copper pan, drop in cold water, walk away. Dissolves sugar. I poured hot stuff over peanuts on parchment paper. Kayro clear only, this want break your teeth. Thanks yoyom, i did it thanks to you.
Crunchies are my favorite. Here I'm Florida they don't make them. You can only find them in publix (which is a store with other states food). My grandma from India would send us this all the time. So I can't wait to make those.
Just used your recipe, and never made anything like this before and it turned out fantastic!!!! Thanks so much for this video!!!

Finally. A simple sponge candy recipe. And without gelatin. Thank you.
I need your help why do you not use honey?
@marycollins1631 I know right. I want to get honey sugar with honey and make my own style cause no one else here does it like that
I have been looking all over for a sponge toffee tutorial! Thank you! Subscribed!!

Haha, the other day my friend and I were eating Crunchie bars, dying to know a recipe! Thanks Tammy!

You did a beautiful job on this sponge. This is a great idea for gifts! Thanks Tammy!
Anything homemade always looks better and tastes better. :)
My mom's favorite bar was Crunchie! I'll have to make it for her sometime. It's a lot easier than I thought it would be. :)
Thank you.
Here in the U.S. we call it seafoam or honeycomb. No matter what you call it, though, it's DELICIOUS!!!
Thanks for this recipe, I will try it!
Apparently sponge toffee might be a Canadian thing.
yoyomax12 - the diet free zone No, I just think the name SPONGE TOFFEE is a Canadian name for the SAME delicious stuff we eat in Europe & America!

Thank you so much! You just taught me how to make my FAVOURITE chocolate bar! :D
Thank you for this wonderful video. You have given me the courage to try to make it myself! It’s one of my favorite kinds of candy, too! 😊
I made this tonight and it tastes amazing! The only thing is that mine came out slightly hard. Thank you for this recipe!
I love the name Sponge Toffee instead of Honeycomb! A much better description of it too!
That looks so awesome boiling up! Might have to make this with my daughter, looks like science and ends with candy. :)
Everyone in my area calls that type of candy "sea foam", and it can only be found in the nice candy/chocolate shops where everything is crazy expensive; I'm so glad to find out how easy it is to make! ^-^
You can find it in farm stores like Blains Farm and Fleet and Tractor Supply as they carry unique candies.
Here is Australia it is called Honeycomb. I've also heard it called Hokey Pokey.
But a candy by any other names tastes as sweet.
I always thought hokey pokey was chunks of butterscotch?
It never ceases to amaze me how differently named the same things are around the world - but still in the same language! :)
Same in the UK. It's honeycomb or cinder toffee :)
They have crunchies in Australia. They are at IGA :)
KeemaMUA right! I think it's so funny to hear people call cookies biscuts. In America biscuts are a buttery flakey bread.
It's so funny and interesting
Gina :)
And everywhere else, they're not exclusive to IGA...
I've never heard of this (I am American) but it looks delicious! And pretty easy! :)

Hi Yoyomax cool video in the uk we call the sponge toffee cinder toffee :) it's like a seaside treat other than that we do also have crunchys and we do call it honeycomb too :) x
Peanut Brittle! Mix in roasted peanut. Granny made this all the time. We fought to see who could get to it first. Yum!
If you add roasted peanuts and stir in at the end, it would add another edge to a fine recipe.
