I am not sure if that's brave or insane. My wife grew up in Monterey lots of great whites there too. Those waters are cold and dangerous and the sharks don't help matters. No way would you find me in there.
@@mrcawta124 yeah, they are rare because the vast majority of the population do not put themselves into such an environment. If everyone went swimming in the ocean as often as they take a shower, or brush their teeth, or ride in a car, then shark attacks would not be uncommon.
"When your scared of big dreams and just do em.. and then this happenes" that's great. My grandpa was part of the dolphin club and swam the golden gate, he named my mom after a woman named Myra who attempted that farallon swim but came short. . I'm happy to see her do that, amazing!
The farrallon islands are extremely shark INFESTED. For anyone to swim in those waters is truly insane, much less than to swim from their all the way to the golden gate Bridge.
I will say this , that lady is a super human ❤, I could never imagine that a human could actually swim 🏊♂️ that long in cold temperatures, on top of that , sharks that are the biggest in the world swim around these waters jelly fish , and who knows what lurks under those waters. I would die just sitting there floating in the water of fear . 😩 just incredible, super human.
Very impressive ( however ) for me: the Risk vs. Reward ratio, doesn't make sense. Dangerous swim. Glad she made-it without getting hurt. Happy for her. Congratulations.
People using the term “shark-infested,” doesn’t an infestation mean an invasion? Are sharks really invading the Pacific Ocean or do they just live there?
The Faralon islands are no joke. Some of the biggest great whites in the world and starting at night when sharks typically feed. Fate was on her side that day for sure. I wonder if the decision not to wear a wet suit was because she didn’t want to take a chance of even appearing to look like a seal. Congratz on her big accomplishment!
Here is the million-dollar question...WHY? After passing the Golden Gate bridge heading out to the open ocean, the weather gets suddenly very rough and those BIG sharks near those islands are hungry...
I wouldn't have liked to attempt it, so well done to her. I guarantee though, there would have been numerous Great Whites unseen, that would have been aware of her, and a good chance that a few may have come within a 100 yards of her over the course of the 17 hours, but just passed on by her. They don’t attack anywhere near as regular as some people think. Still, I wouldn't have risked it though 😬😬
This is what you do when your scared of big dreams and you just do them......LOL> Correction, this is what you do when you more money than sense, add a little white privilege and a sprinkle of no real goal in life....Then you fly around the world so you can swim...and say look at me, I'm so amazing....lol. My mom even flew halfway around the word to watch...because she is so amazing just like me... 1st world goals and sacrifice...
FOFF about the white privilege. Africa, the Middle East, Asia, India, Oceania,… they can make all the privilege they want if they've got the skills and ability to prosper. Why do people from these regions flock to 'white founded countries'? Who chose to go to the north and south poles, who chose to climb to the peak of Mt. Everest, who chose to go to the moon, who chose to go to the deepest depths of the ocean, who chose to drill into the earth the deepest, who chose to venture furthest in space, who chose to travel around the world most efficiently and industriously, who chose to harness electricity commercially, who chose to build modern technology,…..?
She gives me inspiration to reach my goals whatever they are. I'm an open water swimmer and I love it and I always want to go a little further just because I love it. My longest distance has been a bit over 4 miles but I want to go longer, because i love it. This is what she did because she had a drive to reach her goal. Those are my thoughts.

"great" comment and I'm with you all the way mate
I don't understand why any human has any desire to put their body into an environment that it was not evolved to be in.
This water was not really made for humans to swim in!
How do you know. ?
Why would you swim in Shark infested waters? Well done the girl, though!
Lol shark attacks are rare
@@mrcawta124 I know, but she's tempted fate.

That’s an amazing story!
Swimming at night probably was like ringing a dinner bell for the sharks
Na night time is better, sharks are less active. Starting at the islands was smarter
That woman sure is brave
He didn't swim because they could SEE a gw in the area, not because there WAS one.
NO THANK YOU! Although, if she's happy, then I'm happy for her.
I personally don't think that there's anything tougher and more worrying to do in life and I commend you truly.
Not even free climbing El Capitan!!! That is the scariest accomplishment anyone has done in our lifetime.
She's awesome! Id love to meet her someday! Ive swum Alcatraz and Tiburon, these bigger swims are truly inspirational to me.
Clint Eastwood swam 3 miles after his plane crashed in 1951.
That’s far but totally doable

I guess GTA SA's CJ was doing it calmly.

Why?
Yea, willpower, but what’s the purpose?

60 degrees? That’s warm.
