VoicePlay is an impressive group. You're right in that this isn't the only style they perform in- they pretty much do it all. Rock (Carry On Wayward Son, Dream On), pop (Good 4 U, Boybands in 5 Minutes), Broadway (Wicked Medley, Phantom of the Opera), video game music (The Halo Theme, The Dragonborn Comes: Skyrim), Disney (The Little Mermaid Medley, We Don't Talk About Bruno) and much more beyond that. And if that weren't enough, Geoff Castellucci (bass) and Layne Stein (vocal percussion) take turns creating the vocal arrangements VoicePlay use, and whoever does the arrangement also handles the video (conception, sourcing, filming, editing- the works) and the initial mix of the vocal tracks. Eli Jacobson (the scary, bald rock tenor) does their lighting work. They are the whole package- everything you see and hear is their creation, and done without a label backing them.

Welcome to VP! Do check out more of their stuff. The last two years has been exceptional. Also check out the bass Geoff castelluci channel. He has instruments in his stuff but truly he does it all. One thing VP does better than anyone else is humour. Way Down by Geoff and We Don't Talk About Bruno by VP are great examples of that. I know three of them have a 5 octave range. Cesar may as well but he doesn't want to know 🤣. Enjoy these guys. They are fabulous

One that has been reacted to a lot, but is still fun to see peoples reaction to Geoff and what he does is, Oogie Boogie's Song. I highly recommend it for the rest of the group have amazing parts that go well with it and make it sound really good.

Cover of BTS "Butter", "we don't talk about Bruno" from Encanto, "Dream On" Aerosmith, "Halo theme", "Running up that Hill" Kate Bush (Stranger Things) for a variety of genres. Voiceplay is the most theatrical of the three top acapella groups, and doesn't do just a cover of a song but often makes a story out of it. Live performances look for "The Road Trip".

      @karenponchak5304 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Only Road Trip for live?
      Better yet:
Do a double reaction to Home Free/Oak Ridge Boys "Elvira" AND VoicePlay "Elvira" (which is only live).
Home Free's version is BASED on VoicePlay's (Geoff is even credited as an arranger).

The most fun part of my day is when a reactor is seeing/hearing/experiencing Voiceplay for the first time. Watching your facial expressions as it progressed was a joy!
    They are phenomenal!
Subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay!

Welcome to the world of VoicePlay!
Yes, they can be a bit theatrical. The theaterskidsofacapella som call them. They can definitely do different kind of genres. Something they excell in is Disney covers. Several of them have been working for Disney in Orlando, where VoicePlay is based.
Deginitely check out more of their stuff. If you want dramatic like this, I suggest The Dragornborn comes/Skyrim or My Mother Told Me
Another style can be seen in Carry On My Wayward Son, Butter or We're Good.
More recent covers are Good 4 U or Running Up That Hill.
More traditional harmonies in True Colour or Can't Help Falling In Love.
Disney in The Little Mermaid Medley, Go The Distance or We Don't Talk About Bruno.
You chose and they deliver and they kill it every time.

VoicePlay really stand out from other acapella groups by often including dramatics in their videos. They tend to have worked in places like theme parks, Disney etc. in the past so have acting experience as well as being talented vocalists. Also they're a lot of fun.

This is a heavy song to start with Voiceplay! You sure got a big way in xD You looked so scared throughout the song lol. I'm subscribing and will definitely check out other reactions!

This remains one of my favorites for sheer drama and beauty. The harmonies are so beautiful. They kind of contrast with the kind of creepy tone that the video is. This is one of the first *epic* performances.
They’ve always toured a lot and done live performances and used the videos to promote themselves. They didn’t have the kind of drama that this does. But frequently their performances tell a story. Sometimes it’s simply through their interpretation of the music or the arrangement or even just the location. Other times they are actively storytelling.
The bass, Geoff Castelucci, and the beatboxer, Layne Stein are seated in front. They, along with their high tenor who left in 2020, met in middle school and started singing together in high school.
During those high school competitions they competed against Eli Jacobson, the rock tenor on the right, who was attending a high school in a nearby town. After completing high school they issued their first album under a different name in 1997. Eli joined them early on, in the early 2000s.
Around 2010 their beatboxer, Scott Porter went on to pursue an acting career and left the beatboxing spot open. Layne, who had been the baritone wanted to try beatboxing. That’s when Tony Wakim joined as baritone.
In 2016, Tony got tired of touring and J Nunn and joined. In 2020, Earl Elkins Jr, their incredible laser high tenor, left the group. In 2021 J left to join the Navy and sang with the Naval choir. Cesar de la Rosa, with the blind eye in the back joined them as baritone.
They are still one permanent member short and use even more featured artists than they did before.
For this production Jose Rosario Jr, who had sung with Rockapella and also performed in the Chicago run of Hamilton, came in to help out. The part had been arranged for a high tenor but was not who was not able to make it. Although he is not a high tenor, Jose came and helped out but Eli took the lead took the lead in this production. Normally the guest artist gets more lines than anyone else and is always featured in the middle. But due to the substitution Eli ended up doing the high tenor part.
Long and drawn out I know, but frequently new reactors are confused because they keep seeing new faces.

The looks on your face until you paused it, said it all. One could see you looking all over, trying to take everything in. Now that's an awesome reaction.

Oh my goodness! Your facial expressions go from expectant, confusion to shock... The way that these exceptionally talent men differentiate from Home free and other well known a capella groups is that these do it themselves sharing the workload between them.... So it's not just their singing talent on show... Whatever genre they do.... They give it 100 %. Their catalogue is extensive and creative.. You can't go wrong with them. X

I would definitely recommend "We Don't Talk About Bruno" as it shows a completely different side of VoicePlay. It sounds just as good and it's just as cool but it's a more fun piece and between that one and this one you can clearly see how versatile they really are. Loved your reaction!!

Block out all of October for VoicePlay's Halloween themed songs: Oogie Boogie's Song, This is Halloween, What's This?, Kidnap Sandy Claus, Friends on the Other Side, Queen in 5 Minutes, Survivors: Zombies vs Hillbillies (VP and HF), Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Once Upon a Dream, the trilogy - Trapped Billie Eilish in 3 Minutes - Panic Part 1 and 2, Halloween Singers Go Psycho, , Geoff's solos: Monster Mash, Grim Grinning Ghosts, The Headless Horseman.

They have a lot of Halloween songs - and Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci, the bass, has his own channel with 2-3 Halloween songs too. But save them... there's so much more to hear! You're right to assume that their style varies with the performance/song - but yes, they go all in. Almost all of their projects are arranged by either Geoff or Layne (beatbox.) I understand Layne sometimes arranges for Home Free, but I don't know which ones he's done. If you want another big epic story - listen to Dragonborn Comes, or their medley, Queen in 5 minutes. There are lots of others - if you want to get a sense of their comedy, listen to their cover of We Don't Talk About Bruno - it's excellent. But if you see something listed on their channel that you like, go for it... they're ALL good.

Yeah, if you really want to see their theatrical side, check out any of the four songs they did from the Nightmare Before Christmas. Of the four, What's This is the most Christmas-themed, and the other three are more Halloween-themed. Costumes, character voices, acting, ... also be sure to put You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch, on your list for the Christmas season.

If you enjoyed this, check out My Mother Told Me or Dragonborn Comes/Skyrim next. They recently released two classics--Running Up that Hill and Dream On. They do a lot of Disney, video game themes, etc. They have a little something for everyone!

Not sure if anyone else mentioned it, but another video that showcases their theatrical side is Little Mermaid medley. Geoff as Ursula is not to be missed.
You can pretty much date their videos by the personnel lineup and length of Geoff's hair. He started letting it grow long just before his son was born, spring 2017.

VoicePlay #TheatreKidsOfACappella. Love their theatrics, Sets, costumes, make-up, and lighting of the whole shebang. they are definitely unique and set them apart from all the other acapella groups. Defiantly will be a subscriber for more VoicePlay. Their bass Geoff Castellucci has his own channel where he does his own Low Bass covers.
