    Welcome to the VoicePlay rabbithole!! I expect you will see a swell of viewers on this video, as well as receive a ton of suggestions for other VoicePlay tracks. Don't worry which one you pick- they are all amazing, in a variety of ways, so you will never be disappointed. Fun fact- VoicePlay not only do all their own vocal arrangements, but they do all the video work themselves as well. Whoever arranged the music also directs and edits the video, and Eli (the bald tenor) does all of their lighting work. Layne Stein, the vocal percussionist, also co-owns a video production studio where they sometimes film (although at other times, they source other locations). These guys are the full creative package, and their work is quite distinct as a result.

    Some names for you: Geoff Castellucci, bass with a range of five octaves. Layne Stein, vocal percussion, but also sings Eli Jacobson, tenor with a rock voice, Cesar de la Rosa is the newest member, with a very sweet voice. Jose Rosario Jnr is a guest with them here. All are great at the theatrics but often sing in a more regular acapella style. They put a lot into costume, makeup, backgrounds etc. Older videos show a diferent line up but two members left to do other things last year. Geoff has his own channel singing low bass covers of various songs. Another theatrical performance is The Dragonborn Comes, from the video game Skyrim, Queen in Five Minutes is another and the Oogie Boogie Song, but they also do Disney medleys, as most of them have worked for Disney at some point. Eli (pronounced as ellie) has sung with rock bands too and is a master of riffs and runs and just belting.

      To be fair all four of them have five octave ranges I believe. Three of them anyway. They are masterful

    Oh My God!! Seriously? This is your first VP experience. Oh you poor sheltered boy. You have so much to catch up on. VoicePlay is FANTASTIC!!! I haven't found anything of theirs that I haven't loved.
    The Bass, Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci) has his own chanel you should definitely check out. He has a 5 octave range.
    One of the best descriptions for acapella groups is this:
    Pentatonix is the student council VoicePlay are the theater kids and Home Free are the guys having a tailgate party on the football field.
    Believe me it fits.
    Now for recommendations for VP
    We Don't Talk About Bruno (newest)
    The Dragonborne Comes
    Halo theme song
    Queen in 5 Minutes
    And of course The Oogie Boogie Song.
    Geoff's solo
    Far over the Misty mountains Cold Take Me Home Country Roads House of the Rising Sun
    Monster Mash
    The Headless Horseman
    and 16 tons

    This is a great example of their epic style.... to see their humor, check out their latest, "We Don't Talk About Bruno." You get all of the amazing vocals, and some really funny bits. Geoff's private channel has some amazing stuff on it... Personal favorites of mine are Shenandoah and 16 tons. Both Shenandoah and Blackbird do a great job of showing off his range. But if you're feeling like a movie-type experience, he also did Over the Misty Mountains Cold (from the Hobbit )

    Voiceplay are often called the Theatre Kids of acapella, as a lot of what they do is very theatrical in nature, like this one. They've had a few line-up changes over the years; Cesar (young guy with the gammy eye and manacle-maracas) is the newest member, and Jose is an occasional guest member who usually sings with his own group Rockapella. Prior to that, other members have included J.None (very charismatic baritone) and Earl (awesome high tenor who doesn't look like he should be a high tenor. 😁)
    Others of theirs to check out (and you really should, because they're amazing) : The Oogie Boogie Song, This Is Halloween, Queen in Five Minutes, Boybands In Five Minutes, My Mother Told Me, Carry On My Wayward Son, The Halo Theme... you won't be short of content from them!

    Sorry if I missed if someone else has mentioned this already, but since you are really appreciating the music, it was arranged by the bass, Geoff Castellucci. He and Layne Stein (beatboxer) do almost all of the Voiceplay arrangements

  • @jessicacifelli5496
    @jessicacifelli5496 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    These guys are like the theatrical version of Pentatonix and Home Free. Pentatonix focuses more on pop music and Home Free usually sticks with country music. The bass is Geoff Castellucci, a founding member. He also does solo work too on his own channel. The guy next to him is Layne, he is the beat boxer. The guy with the shackles is Cesaer, the newest member. In the middle is José, he features a lot in Voice Play songs. The bald man is Eli (pronounced Elly), he is the tenor and always has rockstar vocals. Voice Play was on the tv show, The Sing-Off, the same season as Home Free. They came in 5th place I think.

    geoff the bass can go even lower than that. in this video lineup back left is cesar (newest member), middle back is jose the guest singer, back right is eli (pronounced elly. he's been in the group a long time). front left is layne (beat boxer and vocal percussionist) and finally geoff the crazy bass. all of their ranges are amazing

  • @lkreinmiller-author
    @lkreinmiller-author 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Back row - Cesar Del la Rosa, newest member, baritone/tenor. Jose Rosario Junior, guest, baritone/tenor, also sings in My Mother Told Me & several shorts with them, has done a lot of theater including Hamilton. Eli (Ell Lee) Jacobson, tenor.
    Front row - Layne Stein, beatboxer/percussion, tenor/baritone when he sings. Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci (Cass tell oo chee) bass/baritone/tenor/percussion, also does a lot of solo work, has own channel.
    VoicePlay is the theater/music geek of the a cappella world. Costumes, props, lighting etc.

Their cover of we don't talk about Bruno is incredible and shows off Layne's incredible beatboxing as well as great harmony, if you want to experience Geoff's range then check out Voiceplay's oogie boogie cover. You will be blown away!

    Voiceplay are the theater kids of acapella. They really get into the spirit of the music with full costumes and sets that really immerse you into the music. They're all super talented, but you did a great job of picking out the two stand-outs - the tenor Eli (pronounced El-ee), and the bass Geoff (pronounced Jeff). Eli has a fantastic voice with a great tenor range. His style and intensity makes many believe that he could easily become a metal singer if the whole acapella thing doesn't work out. lol! Then there's Geoff. Another crazy talented dude. He has a 5+ octave range from B0 all the way to around E5. He has his own channel where he's done a lot of solo work where he covers a lot of different works with copies of himself layering all the parts. Definitely also worth your time to check out. You can't go wrong with any Voiceplay production, although some I would highly recommend would be their Disney medley covers, Tennessee Whiskey, Carry On My Wayward Son....honestly, they're all great. Just check out their channel and you wont' be disappointed!

    VoicePlay was on Sing-Off in the 4 season about 8 years ago. The song they did that I love is Road Trip. If you do a reaction on this, get the one with 9 million views. (there are 2 others but are tours and video is on people's phones.) It is a great one. If you ever traveled with a bunch of young guys you'll know they nailed it.

  • @maloxi1472
    @maloxi1472 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Those low notes (usually below F#1) are typically produced with subharmonics whenever Geoff is looking for precision (typically when his vocals are exposed) when he's singing the bassline in the background, he also uses growls and a chest-fry mix

    Voice Play is one the acapella trifecta (with PTX and Home Free). They are all world class, and each has its own unique style. Favorites are: Warriors, Carry On Wayward Son, We Don'tTalkAboutBruno, Little Mermaid Medley, The Wicked Medley, The Dragonborn Comes... and more!

  • @detrix42

    Thanks for your reaction to Voice Play! They are a group from Orlando Florida with experience working for Universal and/or Disney theme parks so they have a theatrical style of acapella music. If you like Disney, you would enjoy "We Don't Talk About Bruno" or "Little Mermaid Medley". If you like fantasy gaming, you would enjoy "Skyrim Dragonborn Comes" or "My Mother Told Me" or "Hallo" or "Warriors". Check out their playlist and pick what you know and like- you won't be disappointed!

  • @janetdw

    Eli, pronounce to rhyme with jelly, was not originally slated to sing that part. They were originally going to have another featured performer who was going to sing the high tenor. But things didn’t work out and Jose agreed to come in and help out. But he doesn’t have that high high tenor that Eli can manage. So even though he was the featured performer Eli was the featured vocalist. That just goes to show how tightly arranged this is, that someone can come in at basically the last minute and still fit together so seamlessly.
    Geoff , the bass, and Layne, the beatboxer, typically arrange about 95% of their productions. Whoever does the arranging typically does the video as well. They do it all themselves with a final polish by sending it to the mixer Ed Boyle who also mixes for Pentatonix and Home free.
    For this production they did get help with the make up, which by the way is outstanding. They don’t always go quite this crazy, they do a wide variety. They are known for their Disney covers, their medleys, their incredible harmonies, and just their sense of fun.
    I’ll be subscribing in hopes that you will continue to follow VoicePlay and also check out the bass’s personal channel.
    You won’t find a lack of content with VP, but you will get a little confused if you go very far back because they have had some personnel changes. But you do have to remember that Layne, Geoff , and their prior hi tenor released a first album in 1977 which is 25 years ago.
    Eli really doesn’t normally do their high tenor work except that they’re missing that particular person right now. He has been with them since roughly 2010. Prior to that he did tour with rock bands.
    If you watch their production of Just Sing with the captions on you can see some of the many people that they have collaborated with over the years. Welcome to the rabbit hole, we’re a friendly and gregarious bunch and pretty loyal to VP.

    That guy with the shackles is the newest member of VoicePlay aka Cesar De La Rosa. The evil guy is Eli Jacobson (rhymes with jelly) used to be in a hard rock/metal band in high school. They all have tremendous range. Geoff Castelucci (the bass) goes from B0 (last key on a piano) to A5 - way up there. Eli (bald guy) range is A1 to B5. Layne Stein (beatboxer) is from A0 to C#6. Cesar says he doesn't know his range (doesn't want it to limit him) but in Dream On he was singing up a G5 and G#5 and does some nice baritone work as well. J None is currently in the US Navy where they recruited him for the choir. He said he would be back and his position is being filled by various featured a.rtists. His range is F#1 to B5. He came back during leave to do Friends on the Other Side with VoicePlay. Other good ones (all of them qualifiy) but Queen in 5 Min, Boy Bands in 5 Min, Man in the Mirror, My Mother Told Me, Little Mermaid, Wicked, Dragonborn Comes Skyrim, Halo, Warriors, Dream On, Enemy, We Don't Talk About Bruno, Tennessee Whiskey, Carry on My Wayward Son plus another 160 songs.

    I’m glad you like these guys!! Yes, Eli (ELee) Jacobson (the tenor) is pretty much all in whatever role he’s given. In other videos he comes off as the cool neighbor you’d invite to your backyard barbecue, but in this and My Mother Told Me, he goes full-on Viking/Pirate and is credibly berserker. Plus he can sing anything-he’d be a spectacular front man for a rock band, but he’d also be a terrific mellow jazz singer. And add to that, he does the lighting for most of the group’s videos. Geoff (Jeff) Castllucci (the bass) also has a terrific solo channel with some really great videos-I highly recommend Sixteen Tons. Geoff did the arrangement for this video (he and the beatboxer, Layne Stein, trade off). Someone else has given you all the names, but just so you can put the names to faces, top to bottom, left to right, Cesar De La Rosa, featured guest, Jose Rosario Jr., Eli, Layne, and Geoff.
    Looking at your set, I’m guessing you might like games and fantasy, so I suggest you check out Halo Theme, and The Dragonborn Comes from Skyrim. But basically anything you choose is going to be a lot of fun. Great reaction!

Their Wicked Medley is also insanely good its a cover of songs from the musical Wicked and they have two female guest vocalists that are very good, Rachel Potter and Emoni Wilkins. They do a Little Mermaid Medley that is also very good and also features Rachel Potter as a guest. Dragonborne Comes and My Mother Told Me are also insanely good and Jose Rosario Jr also is a guest in My Mother Told Me. They also do beautiful covers of Tennessee Whiskey, Carry On My Wayward Son and Superstitious. Also Friends From The Other Side and If I Was A Rich Man/Girl are both really excellent as well.

    Welcome to the fun side of a capella... You can't go wrong with any of their songs. They have a very loyal fan base and I'm sure you will get masses of requests. Looks like you're going to be very busy with VP.

    Also, check out their Halo cover and their newest cover of Aerosmith's Dream On. In the Halo video, Geoff hits a B0 (B zero note). The beat sounds you hear are Layne (front left) doing all that with his mouth. They use no instruments at all (but they used the 'tings' from the shackles). The low thuds are indeed Geoff's bass voice. Layne sings baritone, as does Cesar de la Rosa (back row left), featured guest, Jose Rosario Jr. (back center) sings baritone/tenor, and Eli (Eel-eye) (back right) sings tenor.
