Best cleaning hack ever... clean shower screen in seconds

- This is the best cleaning hack you will ever come across when it comes to cleaning a shower screen. With no harsh chemicals or scrubbing required, this is by far the best cleaning hack you need to know. Most cleaning products claim to easily clean the built up soap scum, grime, hard water stains and what ever other dirty materials are on the glass shower screen. Through experience and im sure most will agree that the majority of products are either harsh chemicals or require significant elbow grease to remove just a little bit of the mess. This is the fastest, safest and easiest way i have found to clean it in seconds through the use of a utility blade, razor blade or scraper blade which ever you prefer to call it. This is great! Now I can clean my shower doors every 20 years or so!
I've used a razor before and it definitely helps, but an even easier way is to mix hot vinegar and dish soap in a bowl. Use a sponge to spread across all the glass. Let sit an hour or two. The soap scum will basically fall right off as you go over it with the sponge again. This works on the glass, the floor, the walls, the shower handle, etc.
holy shit! worked like magic!
Does it matter what type of vinegar is used ?
Used that after is scratching comes to glass or not is that working pls rply
Even easier? Pour the mixture into a spray bottle!
@@Decor_with_mhe Yes, it does. White vinegar, it will say it is for cleaning on the bottle. One is food grade, the other is not. Don't use cleaning vinegar in your recipes. LOL
You sir are a genius!! This worked so well!!! I still used some gumption on a wet cloth afterwards to scrub the last little bit off but because 99% of the soap scum was already removed there was very little scrubbing needed. This restored a 15 year old show screen to near new. This is why youtube is such a great resource. Thanks again for sharing.
You’re very welcome 👍
Use it for oven glass also
Use 0000 grade steel wool
We use the same method on brand new houses doing the builders clean ready for handover to the owner. A very very sharp blade is the key.
Plenty of spray or lubricant. Mortar or anything stuck to the window, soak it and slide the blade up to it, then flush.
If you use a cloth it will trap the mortar etc and drag it across the window.
Some citrus spray or vinegar first to loosen and do it, works a treat. Another thing is grade 4 steel wool, it won't scratch glass, very gentle but effective.
Greenman3066 same, we use blades on, oven doors, oven trays windows lots of things, make sure it's sharp and lots of water and keep blade at an angle
I have vinegar....will that be good enough or does it have to be 'cleaning vinegar'? Thanks
@@einsteinstheory4250 simple kitchen vinegar white👍
1/2/2021..was not convinced but while out shopping for some paint yesterday saw this blade for £2 and tried it today after putting soap all over the screen...can't believe it worked..screen looks new..thanks man
How could you not be convinced? This is the best solution I have ever seen.
Just to clarify, this is not my shower lol 👍
Can i use ordinary table vinegar.
I use that same thing on my shower and stove top
Sure it's not your shower...wink,wink 😉
Thank you! Hate to admit it but mine looks like this. 😬
lol!!
Number 4 Steel wool with a bit of soap on it cleans off all the soap scum that builds up on your screen, it won’t scratch your glass no matter how hard you try to. I got this tip from the manufacturer of my screen enclosure, they even posted some out to me, works great. In all honesty, if you spray the glass, when you have finished scrubbing yourself, just to get rid of the fresh soap droplets, it really takes quite a while for it to build up again. Have a go, nothing to loose, try it on an old mirror or similar, number 4 steel wool, lubricated with a bit of soap, won’t scratch the surface.
Yes I just watched a video talking about the Steel 0000
what is number 4 steel wool… where can I find it ???
@@shaswatirudra5841 Should be available in any hardware shop, you would think it would scratch the glass, quite the opposite, I have used it to get a good finish when I built a guitar, just wet it and put some shower cream on it and most importantly, wash it off before it dries.
@@Gerry2210 thank u so much… extremely excited to try this one out 😀
@@shaswatirudra5841 why would you if 2 dollar sharp tool dose it so easy with a bit of vinegar🙂
I am a clean freak and do my showers weekly. But that is way quicker and cheaper. Great tip👌🏻
Got dish washing tablets? Use one to scrub the glass then simply rise off!
You don’t have to look at a dirty shower screen....just squeegee the glass after each shower - and make it a rule for everyone else who uses the shower to do so also!! It’s a one or two minute job.
@@Teddibere1 yes , maintenance is key
@@Teddibere1 yup - I do the same.
@@Teddibere1yep. I'm in a hard water area. I use a window vac on the glass, wall and tray. It takes three or four minutes. No need for any heavy cleaning. Also helps reduce condensation in the winter.
I just bought some products now for over $120 and saw this, gave it a go and wow worked like a charm. Thanks mate 👍
You’re welcome 👍
Going to try in couple of hours. Will come back with the results soon 😊
Edited: It's pure Magic, worked with ease. Earlier wasted money on expensive glass cleaning products but that didn't work. Thank you !!
I would like to thank U for this cleaning advice, straight after watching your video i went to Bunnings
got my self proper knife scrubber and got my shower done in about 45 min glass and tails.
Shower looks as new as the day it was installed about 7 years ago. Thank You Very Much.
And for all others people here - it works !! easy fast and clean 🙂 i used just vinegar it works 🙂
Brilliant! I've tried just about every cleaning method out there, and much elbow grease later, it still was there. This was easy, did the job and restored our glass shower door to perfection!
Magic erasers work excellent....
@@KattMurr Do you have to use vinegar with erasers or do you use them alone? Thanks.
@@Dreamskater100 You have to use some liquid. Vinegar has some advantages in loosening or dissolving hard water deposits. Also try not to scrub with the Magic Eraser. Simple wiping is more effective. Wipe lightly a few times and rinse the Magic Eraser. Wipe again a few times and rinse. The third time is usually the last time. If your Magic Eraser seems to compress or wear out in the process, then you are using too much force. I cleaned 400 square feet of dirty tile flooring with one Magic Eraser mop head.
@@dchall8 Thanks!
Don't usually comment on videos but I had to here. Thank you so much, worked brilliantly and I hadn't realised quite how much dirt and soap scum had built up on my shower screen! I will definitely be passing this tip onto my friends and family!
You’re welcome 👍
I was planning on doing this project this weekend and I'm pretty sure you just saved me a lot of elbow grease. Thank you 😊
Thank you for this video!! I just cleaned my doors in the shower and it worked perfectly!!
O
Doors is a euphemism in the sentence 😉
Hiya! I just watched your video and thought, no way, this looks too easy... So I took vinegar and a blade and tried it out 10mins ago. IT WORKS!!!!!!! Thank you!!!
👍👍👍
The moment you pulled out the blade was the moment i realised that it doesnt take 'seconds' lol
Well you lost as soon as you thought you could clean a shower in seconds
Nah
Exactly
@@damiana534 you can. With dawn and water
Lol😂
This is so obvious and yet brilliant how come no one ever figured this out before? Time to clean the shower!
I've been cleaning houses for over 20 years. I found magic erasers work great on glass showers....
Cool. It’s really great to avoid harsh chemicals wherever possible, so I respect and appreciate your mindfulness, thanks!
I used the Mr Clean Magic Eraser & it works really well!
Used a blade for years. Oven cleaner works too, on cruddy glass.
So of all the different types you've tried this is the best. It looks like you're firmly committed to this project of testing a new product a minimum of at once every 10 years whether it needs cleaning or not.
Obviously not his shower. Not sure why you would even think that. Especially when he has the genius solution.
The Cleaning vinegar softens the minerals which is why you're able to scrape the build-up off like that. It has a higher acidic level than "salad" vinegar. Users can also put it straight into a trigger action spray bottle but should be aware that vinegar still smells and can cause irritation with prolonged contact. A razor isn't necessary either; a cheap non-scratch scrubber pad from the dollar store will work just as well (and can be disposed of without guilt and without needing to safely get rid of a razor blade). I use the cleaning vinegar on my glass rinse jars I use for watercolor painting. (Sometimes I forget to dump one of them. It only takes a couple of squirts of the vinegar, I let it soak a few seconds and then a quick swish of the scrubber to remove the sandpaper feel on the bottom of the glass, which is bad for brushes!) 👍
The only vinegar's I have used for salads have not been white vinegar. They have been cider or different wine vinegars.
@@jazzcatt - Cleaning Vinegar can be found at grocery stores but you may have to ask where it's at. I think it's in the same area as regular vinegar and pickles at Wal-Mart but could also be where they have general household cleaning products. It depends on the store. If they don't have it, ask for the manager and let them know you are looking for it. It comes from the same companies that produce your salad vinegar. ☺
@@longyarn4288 Yeah, I know. I'm the person who has been telling other folks about cleaning vinegar. Regular food grade vinegar should be right where you say but cleaning vinegar should not be anywhere near pickles etc as it's not meant to be consumed. Yes, it's white vinegar but it has a bit higher acid content.
@@jazzcatt - Ah, I see great minds think alike. Well the reason I am unsure as to where it's at in the grocery store is that my hubby is the one to pick it up for our household. Were it up to me I'd order everything off the web 'cause I hate going to the grocery store. 🤷♀️
@@longyarn4288 Ahhh I see. For me, since CoViD-19 killed my job completely last March about the only getting out I get is going to the grocery store! I guess it all depends on how you see things. Besides buying online and having it delivered sucks when it comes to produce. And a shopper and delivery costs way too damned much money!
I've been cleaning my shower screen and tiles like this for years. It is soo much easier, it's really inexpensive and saves time and money.
You can also use a utility blade for the glass stove top. Works wonders 😁
I just discovered this method about a month ago. My shower glass is finally clear!
The reason I tried it was because I learned this a razor is also how you should clean off buildup on a glass stove top.
So I figured why not?
Which razor for stove
Works perfectly on glass stove tops.. not a scratch.. goodbye bags full of baking soda and stuff and still find it doesn’t work so good as promised… 😊
Vinegar, a bit of regular shampoo mix with old kitchen sponge will work okay unless the surface is full of fine scratches. For tight corners you can use old toothbrush. Some types of shower room partition glass may have a thin coating so sharp blades could harm it. Even though some people are religious about but no point of mixing vinegar with bicarb which simply neutralise the acidity render vinegar useless.
Which kind of vinegar?
I just used this method to clean my shower which I don’t think was ever properly cleaned for at least 20 years. The shower glass doors are see through now. :) Amazing. I have tried everything but nothing worked but this method. Thank you for the video!!!!!
Best video on cleaning a shower! I have ever seen! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Normally use Vinegar mixed with Dawn Soap and pre spray and let it sit for 5 - 10 mins. Use a Dish sponge with the abrasive side and scrub it clean. Spray warm water after completed, then followed by a complete wipe down. Thanks 🙏
Excellent! (Vinegar is an acid and I have to wear a mask or hold my breath while spraying because, if inhaled, it caused me to cough seriously). This is an EXCELLENT IDEA with the razor!
So good! So much better than breathing the chemicals in 👍🏻
Thanks for making me make my glass all scratched up mate.
Dont lie, no one appreciates it 👍
@@billshowto it did bro no word of a lie. Perhaps it was me not doing it right. My bad
In order to scratch the glass you would have to use the point of the blade with considerable amount of pressure. You have to keep the blade flat against the glass as in the video in order to scrape the mess not try to cut it out.
@@billshowto I need to get me self a blade holder like the one you've got in your video, only then would I be able to get the most out of a blade without breaking it or scratching it.
I wish everyone on TH-cam be was as quick to respond as you are mate, it would be such a nice place wouldn't it.
Cheers mate, have a good one. I owe you a bear if you're in 🇬🇧

FINALLY! someone else uses a blade to clean a shower glass door. I use that and a steamer.
That is so funny... I have been looking forever to see if I was the only genius who figured this out
@@mikey6482 well this may have just lost me some customers. Can't give away all my secrets or I'll no longer have a cleaning business
@@mikey6482 so what other cleaning tricks u got up ur sleeve?
Great hack! Thanks! I'll definitely try this.
For the record, I think this is not "bacteria" and filth, for the most part it's simply soap / shampoo, that drops on the walls around you, when you take a shower, then it dries and this is what you've got - thick soap residue, that builds up more and more, if you don't clean it regularly.
Putting the rain x after it's clean is the best idea 💡...didn't think of that!!! Awesome!! 😃👌
Absolutely brilliant
I bought this blade and it works like a charm. So satisfying!
Many thanks
You’re very welcome 👍
Thank you thank you for this tip. This is absolutely the best way to clean a shower glass . My shower glass door looks amazing. Thank you again🙏
Wish I would've seen this video months ago when I lived in my old place that had a glass shower. You make me want to go find a glass shower to clean using this method. lol
I tried this today and it was amazing. Thank you for sharing.
Good tips here. Yes, vinegar is a great solvent for hard water and helps with this cleaning method.
Daaaaaamn it took me 30 mins with scrubber and klinex to clean 1/3 of a shower screen🤣🤣😂😂 thanks
this worked well, could not get rid of the "etched grass" on edges, whatever that reaction is, but removed stuff been there for years, good on you bill
You’re welcome 👍
I reckon anyone that'd let their shower screen get into that state wouldn't give a fig about spending time doing this. :-(
Not necessarily. I am partially disabled and can't always clean my shower doors. When I am having a good day, which is maybe twice a month, those are kinda low on my priority list of things to get done. Just letting you know
Looks like an old home. They may have moved into it in that state
Mine gets like that so fast it's sickening, but the big problem where I am is very hard water. I squeegee the glass every time I turn the water off and it helps quite a bit.
Yes but a great help to anyone who may be moving into an old neglected house or cleaning for an elderly or deceased relative.
I have a back problems and cleaning the bathroom is pure agony. I do have a cleaner for it. You should not judge so quickly
Fantastic idea! Can’t believe I never thought about it before. 👍🏻👍🏻
👍👍👍
Your method works so well.. i tried other online method all bullshit, only urs really works well.. thank you my life saver.. cost saving
I just use antibacterial citrus cleaning wipes from Aldi, super easy and works the best for me 👍🏼
Wow would of known a razor blade would keep me from choking on harsh chemicals trying to clean my glass door! Thank you sir for the tip👍
👍👍👍
Scraping is sort of like scrubbing. It does look good. I don’t think this is quick but it works well
i call it a paint scraper.
it's what i use to scrape the glass inside my woodburner.
gloves are a must, and newspaper on the floor beneath the open door.
first "wallpaper" the sooty inner glass with newspaper soaked in white vinegar ; allow to rest tho not to dry.
scrape away
finish off with vinegar on steel wool and wipe over with a damp cloth
Our glass installer said to use a really good quality microfibre cloth , just dampened with water.
Use it on glass when it’s dry; it works great.
He also said that shower- gel leaves less scum than bar soap.
So far so good, after a year of using the shower daily.
Glass looks pristine.
Come back in 10 years, lol
Shower gel leaves less probably because it contains EDTA.
Fantastic, thanks for this. My shower screen has 18 years of build up of debris. Great tutorial.
Wow… that’s super easy. So glad I found your video.
Looks great! 😀👍👏 One question: Are you removing calcium deposits? Or is it various types of dirt such as grease, soap residue, and others... (Other than calcium deposits?) 🤔
Thanks for sharing. I found the blade trick when I decided to re-chalk my own shower, and saw how gross my glass was - even after trying every cleaning product out there. I'm in the middle of the project and I didn't use vinegar and wore a dust mask, instead. Now I'm going to see if the vinegar makes it even an easier removal.
you can use a regular mild windows cleaning spray, instead of vinegar (as vinegar smells.... rather harsh)
7/19/22: Dawn and vinegar mixed and a sponge, using liberally on the glass, rinse and WELLA!, no spots, dries clear and you're done! This mixture does an incredible job removing soap scum and leaving a clear finish. I swear by it.
50/50 ratio?
@@benhazell7838 Yes, 1:1 ratio. It's not always quite as simple as conishkee would have you believe for old deposits. I let it sit for 15 minutes and use a plastic scrubber to loosen it all. Follow that with a rinse. One thing to be aware of is the spray will get on the floor making it extremely slippery.
For a daily preventive, after shower, spray, I put 100 ml of alcohol, 100 ml of mild baby shampoo, and 100 ml of vinegar into a 32 ounce spray bottle and fill the rest of the way with water. Spray the walls and door while they are still wet. The soap reduces water tension so they flow to the floor. The alcohol helps it to clean and to evaporate quickly. The vinegar helps prevent the build up of scum and hard water deposits.
Didn’t do anything for mine, I’ll try straight vinegar and steel wool this time.
I tried that TWICE And it didn't work :(
What about shower doors that don't have the smooth like glass door.
Mine is the grany type. Rough kind. Like it has pores, so the blade will not slide smooth or get into those little holes that my door has, what do you recommend for this old school shower doors. Hope you understand which type of door im talking about.
Or any one with tips on how to clean my shower door. Much appreciated. Thank you.
Hi Bill. I used your method last week on a dreadful door like the one in your video, and it worked ! It now looks new. Client really happy but there remains for me another problem. Many of my clients have shower doors with small amounts of water staining on them and for some reason this method doesn't work on them.....what can you suggest i use on light water marks ? The metal wool ball thing wont scratch them off.
Thanks,
Joanna.
Vinegar with a little solvent (rubbing alcohol) to help penetration; the glass may be etched though so it might never come out (because its damage not dirt).
Just ordered a scraper, arriving tomorrow. Fingers crossed this works for me, will update :)
That's how I clean the plastic on the bottom of my golf clubs (from those green hitting mats). My shower door is textured but, I'm going to try this tomorrow. Thanks.
Simply amazing, I can do that, thanks for the effortlessly awesome tip, sweat free, yipee thaks
Genius, worth all the time on you tube today. Thank you. Cleaning vinegar? Is that plain white vinegar?
Yes, but it will say it is for cleaning on the bottle. One is food grade, the other is not. Don't use cleaning vinegar in your recipes. LOL
@@jazzcatt
Where can I find cleaning vinegar?
@@joannp5806 Usually in a decent grocery store. Also my local Walmart has it.
@@jazzcatt
Tx,I picked some up😁
@@joannp5806 Glad to hear it. Now please let me know if the recipe works for you. Do remember that vinegar stinks, but once it's dried it won't stink any more. NOTE: when you used dish washing liquid with ANY other cleaner make sure you use the one that does ***not, Not, NOT***!!!! have ammonia in it. Read the label before you buy it. If it says 'ammonia ' Do NOT get it!!!
Why? If you have it you may be tempted to try it with other cleaners. Never EVER mix any cleaners that contain bleach (Sodium Hypochlorite) in one cleaner and ammonia in another!!!! Together they make a toxic gas that can, and WILL kill you.
ANOTHER NOTE: Vinegar is a mild acidic compound. Make sure that whatever you use it on can take mild acids. The acid in vinegar is what makes it a great cleaning tool.
The acid in the cleaning vinegar can help get rid of hard water deposits as well, but it also can cause havoc on seals.
Dawn dish-washing liquid is the best for breaking down grease. That's why it is used on wildlife that are covered in oil from crude oil spills. (Again, for your safety, get the type that has NO ammonia.)
Ahhh, you scraped off all the frosting...and that privacy glass isn't cheap!
Can't beat this method. Great video mate.
Probably would try, if I didn't try the 50/50 dish soap and vinegar in a spray bottle. Wet the wall with the showered, spray the mixture on the screen. Leave it on 5-10 minutes. Very lightly scrub with a sponge (it will take no effort). Rinse with water, use a squeegee. It is literally incredible.
How much dish soap and how much vinegar? Thx
I need instructions
I don’t own a swuidgi
So wouldn’t you run the risk of scratching the glass?
Not with lubrication
What if your shower door glass isnt flat but has ridges?
Thank you! Going to try this so my shower door can look like new again.
Guess what I’m doing tomorrow? Thanks Bill!
What? Buying dish washing tablets to easily clean & rinse off your glass?

Thanks for the video. Can this be done on a plastic shower?
Then when you've done that - apply dishwasher rinse aid and the water and soap will just run off the glass . No need to squeezy off just rinse and leave. Of course you will have to reapply once in a while.
Do you mean spray it on or wet a cloth then apply it to the glass? How often will it need to be repeated? (on average?) My shower doors have soap scum on them too tho in many places it's dotted or lined.
