You are partly right. The first thing is you have to find which side of cart path you can drop the ball.
You have to make a set up and put a tee at ball position each side and see where the ball is closer between the 2 tees.

Correct. When a ball is directly in the middle of the cart path, the nearest point of complete relief is different for a left handed player than it would be for a right handed player.
And I believe a penalty stroke is added if the ball is actually played from the wrong area.

The nearest point of complete relief isn't necessarily on an imaginary circle of equidistance from the hole as your ball. The nearest point of relief could be further away from that imaginary circle. That imaginary circle would just tell you that the NPCR can't be inside that circle.

I would be nice to see what a left handed player should do

I thought it rules mentioned a club length I’ve seen professionals use their driver(being the longest club in their bag) I don’t know where it says that you have to use the club that you plan to take your next shot for a measurement

Thanks for tuning into our channel! When you are taking relief from abnormal course conditions such as cart paths, per the rules you must identify the choice of club for the shot you intend to take and use this club for finding your nearest point of complete relief. After this you take your longest club in your bag (usually driver) and use it to lay out the dropping area. The cameras usually don’t show the first part when the pros use the club they are intending to use for the shot and jump right into the point where they lay their drivers down to measure the dropping area. Hope this helps!

Had a situation in a senior tournament quite a few years ago, where my golf ball was on the cart path (far left side of the fairway) but the nearest point of relief (similar to your example) was in an unplayable hazard. Since I wasn't sure of the rule, I left the ball on the cart path for my next shot. Any info regarding my choices if this happens again? Thanks.

Rule 43 , C applies in this most harrowing case: the player must,in the midst of this unenviable situation, head to the Ute,make sure the Dog is still alive, then let him out for a run, making sure he doesn't take a lump outa the Captain's arse,or indeed the ahem ! Lacy Captain's derriere !that's it ,then go home !

By unplayable hazard do you mean it was a penalty area? 16.1b says that the relief area must be in the general area. So if the unplayable hazard was a penalty area then the point you selected was not your nearest point of relief. However if the unplayable hazard was the general area eg bush or rocks then you were probably right to play the ball as it lies. The rules state that 'in determining the nearest point of complete relief, the player is not guaranteed a good or playable lie.'.

@@pdub7562 well said, simple really, don't know how anyone could be confused, artisan members are of course exempt from any rules, !!!Golf is a simple game played by very simple people, with rules that even Einstein would struggle to comprehend !!Think of it,you stand on first tee and the lad your playing with tells you," don't stand there""!!!!

My recommendation: don’t play golf with your mother in law. Her ball was on a cart path. I tried to explain to her how to take relief. She wouldn’t listen and did it her ways.
