Without Zao there'd be no metalcore. Truly pioneers who were ahead of their time. They have such an immense library, Dan's voice is like liquid diamonds.
Back in the day, when I first heard Splinters, Zao blew my mind. They are the reason I picked up a bass and learned how to scream. They have consistently put out music ahead of it's time and I'm proud to have their logo from this album inked on me. Amazing this album came out in 2004 and metalcore has finally caught up. Long live Zao.
MisterGutsy6 People in the mainstream aren't interested in cookie cutter bands? That's the stupidest comment I've ever read. Everything about mainstream music is cookie cutter.
Yeah not sure what happened there. Was trying to say the mainstream ARENT interested in screaming and are interested in "cookie cutter" "bands". *shrug*
MisterGutsy6 They are most certainly not interested in Christian music. That's for sure. The mainstream is all all about selling demons and evil. Sex and violence. Greed and hate.
This band owns so many other bands. And christianty and life isnt all about love and joy and sunshine, theres highs and lows and strugles, Zao writes about it all. Its real music its what people actualy gop through not the veil that most chritianty hides behind.
19 years ago i saw em with dillinger, misery signals, and etid at bb king. The intro riff at 0:42 when the double bass kicks in was always the coolest shit ever.
First: holy shit dream gig. Second: this riff is the most haunting I’ve ever heard-but for me it’s the intro version, before it speeds up (which is like a cherry on the cake really) it’s got that perfect combo of aloof drumming and a bass that sounds like bombs going off at your face.
@@alextownley9388 Yeah, there's no doubt that good, even great, newer m-c bands are around. I'm not sure what OP means by "relevant back then". Especially since the era of bands I think he's referring too (Botch, Converge, Zao...) were either ostracized by the metal community or kinda hanging around the hardcore and punk kids. Metalcore was not relevant in the mainstream or underground. It took a number of years, innovation and hard work to legitimize the style. We all know that by the late 2000's, metalcore essentially blew into mainstream levels of attention (good and bad thing).
i've been listening to these guys since 1997...when the lineup and sound was totally different. they were literally the first metal band i ever heard as a kid. they've done nothing but get better thru the years.
Freaking brutal, this band got me into christain heavy metal. Becoming The Archetype, Plea For Purging, Demon Hunter... these guys are amazing. Best vocals!
this was bay far the best song off this cd and this video was incredible! i wish that the music on the rest of the cd would have been as good as this song. but the lyrics on this whole cd were awesome!

@trevostuden8456 sounds like deathcore I listen to man And it’s not with this course sounds like Death core has the best guitarist drummers in basis of all time lol if you want a mixed bag of the best solos breakdowns and riffs on earth go to Deathcore you’re thinking of djent lol

its been ten years since i listened to these guys. used to love em. does anyone remember that they were under a christian record label? surprised they approved
alot of their songs were like about biblical shit so the label was cool with it. the band was saying the end of the world will come and you will die and burn... so were the christians
Ryan Jackson They were Christians, that's why they were under a Christian record label. (In later days, they weren't Christians anymore, though. I'm not sure if this album is still in their 'Christian period'.)
With the consideration that Zao is a Christian band this song surprises me in two ways. One, it's good. lol And two, the lyrics are really very dark. Awesome awesome.
when i first heard this song, i realized Liberate-era Zao was back and actually, for the first time in a decade, breaking new ground and yet bringing back that track Savannah's style of brutality back from Liberate in these just OBSCENELY evil breakdowns. Man...gets me so f**kin hard
Bombs rain down like heaven's tears The earth shall die and disappear And today, we wish the skies were grey For now they're just black and empty Ripped and torn from inside out Things too dark to think about No miracles No bleeding hands God has parted And when the end, she comes Rains down on everyone Fire from the sky And when the end, she rides Breathing out suicide Life and death are one As a flame burns to touch the sky So it shall be with man's cry And this night all will pass away And this night we shall die as one
@courteyus What do you mean? This was 04. Cattle Decapitation was on MTV 2's headbangers ball. Napalm Death already had about a dozen albums out by then. And this was the year that Dimebag was killed, ending any chance of a Pantera reunion.
i think i know what you're saying, and i never thought of Zao as metalcore, persay, i thought of them as the revolution of extreme christian metal. i think Zao rock hard, and i don't think we would have half the awesome acts we have these days without their inspiration. so much kudos to them, and this song kicks ass btw. :-)
