Hi guys, I'm starting a new channel... so if you would like to show your appreciation for the time I spend editing and uploading these Countdown videos each week, I would ask you to do me a favor and subscribe to www.youtube.com/@SmarterHomesAndGardens which will be about home automation and things like that. YT has some policies about uploading videos longer than 10 minutes that require a certain number of subscribers, etc. Anyway, would appreciate your help in getting the new channel started. Thanks! (...and don't worry I'll keep uploading Countdown on this channel.)
I can reply but not comment. Bizarre! 501~ (9 + 3) x (6 + 1) x 6 - 1 = 503 263 = (50 - 6) x 6 - 9/9 694 = 75 x 8 + 100 + 1 - 7 347 = 75 x 6 - (8 x 8 x 2 - 25)
1. 3 away: (1+6)x(3+6-1)x9=504 2. (50-6)x6-9/9=263 or (50+9)x6-100+9=263 3. 8x75+100-7+1=694 or (100-7)x8=744-50=694 4. Out of the time: (25+2+6)x8+8=272+75=347
In the first numbers round, I think this was Rachel's 503 since I couldn't figure out any other way to do it: 9 + 3 = 12 6 + 1 = 7 12 x 7 x 6 = 504 504 - 1 = 503 In the second numbers round, I saw David's solution and also had these: 50 - 9 = 41 41 x 9 = 369 369 - 100 - 6 = 263 50 + 9 = 59 59 x 6 = 354 354 + 9 = 363 363 - 100 = 263 In the third number round, I saw David's solution and also had these: 100 - 7 = 93 93 x 8 = 744 744 - 50 = 694 100 - 8 = 92 92 x 7 = 644 644 + 50 = 694 100 x 7 = 700 8 + 1 = 9 50 x 9 = 450 450 / 75 = 6 700 - 6 = 694 So contrary to what Colin said, starting with 100 x 7 was feasible. In the fourth numbers round, I was surprised that I got a few solutions in the 30 seconds (including the belated solution) and Rachel didn't. The first one I saw was: 25 - 8 = 17 17 x 8 x 2 = 272 272 + 75 = 347 Others were: 8 x 8 = 64 64 - 2 = 62 62 x 6 = 372 372 - 25 = 347 75 x 6 = 450 450 + 25 = 475 8 x 8 x 2 = 128 475 - 128 = 347 And I got the conundrum.
I really wish all the numbers rounds were of comparable difficulty to this. While I didnt too well, it's a farcry better than a lot of the trivial rounss that we've seen lately
Much tougher today. 501: got to 504 with (6 * (6+3) + 1 + 1) * 9, or (6+1) * (6+3-1) * 9. Couldn't get any closer. 263: took a while, but I found it: (50+9) * 6 + 9 - 100. Was pretty sure this would have to be 363-100 or 213+50 because all the smalls are multiples of 3; didn't think of the 264-1 route. 694: 75*8 + 100 + 1 - 7 347: Can get 348 with 75 * 8/2 + 8*6 or (25*2 + 8) * 6. I knew 347 would be tough with all even smalls (and no 50 to provide a route to 350 - 6/2).

501~ (9 + 3) x (6 + 1) x 6 - 1 = 503
263 = (50 - 6) x 6 - 9/9
694 = 75 x 8 + 100 + 1 - 7
347 = 75 x 6 - (8 x 8 x 2 - 25)
Happy anniversary,Countdown!!
Today is the day countdown is 42 years old🎉🎉🎉
Countdown's birthday is the 2nd November but celebrating it today because it's a Saturday
I imagine Douglas Adams would approve!
1. 3 away: (1+6)x(3+6-1)x9=504
2. (50-6)x6-9/9=263 or (50+9)x6-100+9=263
3. 8x75+100-7+1=694 or (100-7)x8=744-50=694
4. Out of the time: (25+2+6)x8+8=272+75=347
Apparently today is the annciversary of the first airing of countdown, which I like because it's also my birthday!
Many happy returns, sir.
347:
8 * 8 =64
64 - 2 =62
62 * 6 =372
372 - 25 =347
25 - 8 =17
17 * 8 * 2 =272
272 + 75 =347
75 * 6 =450
8 * 8 * 2 =128
450 + 25 - 128 =347
Yep. did the 2nd one ...
0:07 the only thing that's better than a single 1 is a pair of 1s! What could possibly go wrong? 😂
I started, as Colin said, with 100 x 7 = 700
Then (8+1) = 9
9 * (50/75) = 6
700 - 6 = 694
So it is do-able by that route
In the first numbers round, I think this was Rachel's 503 since I couldn't figure out any other way to do it:
9 + 3 = 12
6 + 1 = 7
12 x 7 x 6 = 504
504 - 1 = 503
In the second numbers round, I saw David's solution and also had these:
50 - 9 = 41
41 x 9 = 369
369 - 100 - 6 = 263
50 + 9 = 59
59 x 6 = 354
354 + 9 = 363
363 - 100 = 263
In the third number round, I saw David's solution and also had these:
100 - 7 = 93
93 x 8 = 744
744 - 50 = 694
100 - 8 = 92
92 x 7 = 644
644 + 50 = 694
100 x 7 = 700
8 + 1 = 9
50 x 9 = 450
450 / 75 = 6
700 - 6 = 694
So contrary to what Colin said, starting with 100 x 7 was feasible.
In the fourth numbers round, I was surprised that I got a few solutions in the 30 seconds (including the belated solution) and Rachel didn't. The first one I saw was:
25 - 8 = 17
17 x 8 x 2 = 272
272 + 75 = 347
Others were:
8 x 8 = 64
64 - 2 = 62
62 x 6 = 372
372 - 25 = 347
75 x 6 = 450
450 + 25 = 475
8 x 8 x 2 = 128
475 - 128 = 347
And I got the conundrum.
I got 504 in the 501 round:
9*6+1+1 = 56; 6+3 = 9; 56*9 = 504
694: 75*8 + 100 + 1 - 7
347: Can get 348 with 75 * 8/2 + 8*6 or (25*2 + 8) * 6. I knew 347 would be tough with all even smalls (and no 50 to provide a route to 350 - 6/2).
263:
50 + 9 =59
59 * 6 =354
354 + 9 - 100 =263
50 - 6 =44
44 * 6 =264
9 / 9 =1
264 - 1 =263
50 - 9 =41
41 * 9 =369
369 - 100 - 6 =263
Correctly: I was horrible on the numbers, but I've never beaten the studio on a conundrum. Must be opposite day! 😂🎉
347
25 + 8 = 33
33 * 8 = 264
264 + 75 + 6 + 2 = 347
1:47 This is also an anagram of MANLIEST - so what is your MEAN LIST of MANLIEST AILMENTS? 😆
Key is to add or subtract odd numbers ...347 -25 or 75...
Solution I had for 263;
(6*9) + 9 = 63
(6*50) - 100 = 200
For 694, I did;
75*8 = 600
100+1-7 = 94
I got this countdown after the 30 seconds possibly before rachel
25-8=17
17*2=34
34*8=272
272+75=347
263=6×(50-6)-9/9
501 not equal to
(9 + 3) x (6 + 1) x 6 - 1
347 = 75 x 6 - (2 x 8 x 8 - 25)
Another one I got n rachel didnt...347...
1st time for me :)
