You should've included Jon's reaction to Richard Ayoade getting the numbers: "If you want to square and cube things, get a job in a fucking jelly factory, mate." A classic quote.
It's not allowed because it's using the same number 3 times.
@@SennaAugustus did you read anything OP wrote?
@@camrodam Do you understand SUBTLETY? "Cube" is to multiply the same number THREE TIMES. For heaven's sake, go to night school, for both English Language and Mathematics.
@@Demun1649 do you understand context? the person you told off said nothing about the math being off; they were insinuating that the comment of the person they replied to had nothing to do with the original comment, which also mentions nothing about the validity of the math.
@@eyechedelia I hope the therapy, eventually, works.
After Potato Gate, seeing Joe win anything is a real treat
What is this potato gate? I'm interested
@@TheBassicBassist google taskmaster and joe potato
@@eightyproof360 oh Cheers. That was great. Glad you mentioned it
That’s harsh man
Tbh i don’t think any victory will ever overshadow that devastating experience
“This is gonna make the papers!”
Never change, Joe.
The most impressive thing to me is that Rachel got 1 away from 560. Took me a couple minutes and looking up the factors of 561 to figure it out, and she did it in 30 seconds in her head.
The woman is quite literally a genius. Not just with numbers. She's also fluent in several languages and probably picks them up really easily. She's just frigging amazing. I wish I had but an ounce of her intelligence.
love Paul Foots 'roughly, I know roughly what it is'
its not too tricky if you know how to take the logs of numbers
"roughly, I know roughly" 🤣
its true, just gotta know logarithms
“Has this ever been done before?” 🤣🤣🤣
This could go viral 😂😂
"Take the 2 that is rightfully mine..." 🤨🤨
'Aayyeeeee" 😣😣
I;ve seen the Paul Foot / John Richardson clip so many times over the years but I still watch it each time it comes up, specifically just to watch Sean.
Richard squaring and cubing makes me tingly.
Seeing Sean Lock talking about the “electricity” was amazing
While he’s sitting in the dark!
Paul Foot is an extremely underrated comedian.
I love his intimidation methods with Jon. “What’s 78,000,000……. Div…..divided by 474,000”?
I dunno. Do you?
Roughly….😂😂😂😂😂
His performances on Nevermind the Buzzcocks are legendary.
I actually love Harriet 😂
Me too,she is so funny❤❤❤
She's a real cutie!
I love how Jon is genuinely just enjoying Joe actually getting it right for once.
Joe is so much funnier when he's not doing the Rachel helper thing
Paul and Jons maths face-off was great television
Paul is strangely entertaining and cool ....
joe lycetts "what are the rules of this shit game??" was giving maggie smith in downton abbey lol
curious why they didn't include catherine tate staring blankly at the board the whole 30 seconds for i think it was 103 with a 100 and a 3 up in the numbers.
Target of 101, I think.
It was absolutely infuriating.
She must have been joking! 😂
@@davidbethke5463 "Oh, so it can be done!"
“You’re looking at me like it’s obvious!”
Claudia freaking out over numbers was me in every single maths exam I ever did since I was 11.
9:04 - 5 + 7 + 4 = 16, X 3 = 48, X 2 = 96, X 6 = 576. I'm VERY pleased with myself.
Well done you! I got the 660 one and was pleased with myself cos i have to count with my fingers 😂
My favourite bit at 1:00 is Lee's "7...Hospital".
If that's intentional it's genius 😅
Still sad, that Paul didn't realize that he had a second 2 and could have gone along with Jon's "I'll steal your 2" joke.
I'm so glad I found out five programmes are recorded in a day for several days. I thought Rachel must have about 78 children by now.
"HOW IS THAT IT?!?!" I felt the same exact way. I did it the same way and still couldn't decipher the gibberish.
How did they not include Catherine Tate's 1 away?
Be happy.
They also left out the one where an audience member got it.
Catherine your turn to choose tbe numbers;
5, 11, 13, 37.
So it can be done?
Miss you Sean Lock
RIP
There is the pro level, the cats does countdown level, and of course the joe wilkenson level.
Harriet is adorable!
They only need half a clock. They only ever use half of it
Ha! Had the exact same thought 🕛 🤔
It's a little known fact that the second half of the Countdown clock plays the theme from Hawaii Five-0.
Johnny is soooo relatable
I love Harriet.
If you have never seen Jessica's tv show "Drifters", watch it now! While season 1 is a bit rough much like the Ameircan version of The office was, season 2 on are amazingly funny
Is Rachel just insanely good with numbers or does she has a piece feeding the answers?
It's her, she's just insanely smart
she's got like 3 maths degrees and a physics degree or something crazy like that and she can speak like 4 languages too, just mad
1:03 - "Uh, seven: hospital"... that *well known* seven (I mean eight) letter word. Ahaha. I guess I have to forgive him after his win with "steadings" ....although that was probably edited over the space of 25 to 45 minutes.....
That Harriet lass is dead cute
Sod off you, I saw her first.
Love them all,they are great.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What happened to Rachel's "I'm so proud of me!" moment? That's got to be one of the best fails this show has seen...
Jon got that 660 in seconds. You could tell by his face.
"Steal Paul's 2"............
9:15 why cut out Jimmy's quip about the 72 times tables after Rachel showed how to solve that one?
I find 24² is easier.
@@Fete_Fatale not allowed to square it in countdown. Didn't uyou watch the video to hear them tell Richard that! 😛
@@anotheruserism come on! He did something wizard!
@@anotheruserism sigh.
Do the maths yourself, and hopefully you'll realise you can make 24 in two different ways [4*6=24 and (5+7)*2=24], then it's a quick step to 24*24=576 - which also clearly equals 24² ... but 24² was arrived at without actually squaring anying, because it was just a clue to solving it by a different route.
I deliberately didn't spell it out because I felt Countdown fans would have the smarts to figure it out for themselves, and never thought I'd need to explain it in crayon.
FYI. The fact that Richard broke the rules by squaring & cubing gave me licence to do the same as a nod to his 'violation' ... aka, it's a joke.
@@Fete_Fatale Acually I got confsed with a different clip in the video. Nice to know you are so judgemental.
7:45
Target 560
3 x 4 x2 = 24
24 -1 -1 = 22
22 x 25 = 550
Ten away it still 5 points
"Seven".
I burst out laughing so hard when Catherine Tate said that. Sadly, that clip wasn't here.
Paul could have taken the other 2
For those that just string the numbers together, there actually is a concatenation operator in math. It’s ||.
3:20 Joe is more brilliant then me, he used less number, but 100+9+8-5-2 = 110. 110 x 6 = 660
There's an even simpler way. 8+2=10. +100=110. 110x6=660.
I'm always a little frustrated when I get the answer but the panelist uses a different method. Makes no sense, I know, but I can't help it.
No prises to either one, especially after solving after being shown. Stay in school.
7,5...... I'm out 😂
Wait, you don't have to use all the numbers? That makes things easier!
Wow, that is proper evil
3:53 could have been done even easier.
2×5=10
10+100=110
110×6=660
You need to remember Jessica has trouble just walking...
I got the 576 by adding 5+4+7, getting 16, multiplied by 6 for 96, multipled by 2 for 192, multiplied by 3 for 576.
100 -(8x5)x(9+2)=660
So 100- 40= 60 times 11
50x6=300
3-1=2
300x2=600+5=605
easier way.
do you need to use all the numbers to reach the target?
No
Nope
For 660 it could've been 8 + 2 = 10 + 100 = 110 x 6. They made it so much harder for themselves lol
Can you use exponents in this game? Because if you can, (25-1)^2-((1+3)*4) should do it on 560.
Also 5^4-7^2 for 576.
No.
At 10:54 it's attempted, and Rachel says "Not allowed in countdown."
Isn't 'Hospital' 8? Or is this some Northern Variant... Ospital.
75 x 11 - 100 - 5
I can get 660.. does that count :)
8:28 I did 4x6 is 24, and 24 to the power of 2 is 576. But I never ever see anyone use ^2 to square a number so I'm not sure that is allowed, anyone know that?
She explicitly said that it's not allowed, but it's the comedy version; therefore, they went along with it. I would be surprised if he actually got the points, though.
If you wanna square and cube things, get a job in a jelly factory
a@@gangrath...mate
Who stole Clauia's face?
I did 7 + 5 is 12
Multiply that by the 50
That makes 600
Add the 6 and minus the 1
605
yeah i did 7+6-1=12, multiply by 50 and then add the 5.
kinda the same way.
Finally someone who says 'Maths' instead of 'Math' which seems to be all over the internet these days!!!
Didn't have to use the 7?
It's kind of heartbreaking seeing Sean in these. Not the same without him.
9:40
people don't realise Joe is actually smart, he just acts dumb for comedy
Of course everyone realises Joe is intelligent but portrays a fool, and everyone is in on the joke. That is the entire basis of Joe's character. Cor.
If she thinks anyone in los Angeles thinks that their version of a good time is a drinking problem well i have some news for ya
You havent been to LA
🤣🤣🤣
God I love Rachel
The one where she's wearing the Viking beard & helmet ... And what Sean says... 😅😂
A lot of us are trying to get her sacked for her racist comments.
@@zouchmusic A lot of you need to get a f*cking life, mate!
@@zouchmusicwhat comments
@zouchmusic I'm curious: What racist comments
To remain respectful and still be scandalous, I will say this
Rachel Riley is one of the most significant motivators for why boys and men are THOROUGHLY invested in maths.
9:08
I knew that 576 was in the 24 times table.
So I did 6x4=24
7x3=21 + (5-2) = 24
24 x 24 = 576
why would you add the 9 to the 100 when you can just add the 8 and the 2 and multiply by 6?
gross two grown men math debating
First
The women comedians are not funny. Why persist in this silly DEI business? Just put funny people on.
Never noticed it until just then when he said smash the studio up. but you reckon joe might secretly be James Acaster's dad?
Rachel is the best woman ever.
🤣🤣🤣
