    Thank you so, so much for making this video! I changed the brake pads on my fortwo today instead of taking my car to a garage. I was a bit nervous about the task, as I'd never done it before, but your video was the perfect guide to show me how to do the job!

    It might be wise to keep an eye on the reservoir in case you start pushing brake fluid out when you push the piston back. Others can’t assume that it hasn’t been topped up during previous months. Surprised you don’t use a ratchet and 13mm socket for the rear bolt. Just a thought

      @mjrjunior 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s indeed different. On the 450 the bottom bolt of the caliper is a pentagon shaped one that is not supposed to be removed, you need to remove the upper one and then slide it downwards to replace the pads and the slide back up.

    Hi! Very nice helpful video !! My question is do you know what is the life time of the break pads and rotors? And the back brakes how long do they last?? I bought a 2017 smart car last July and I already had to put twice break pads and one time rotors .... I feel like I got scammed by the dealership and my mechanic ... how much does the job really cost? I got charged both times $1200 .... I do driver a lot like about 800 miles a week! And one more question can I put thicker or better break pads?

    • @smarte.r.1450
      @smarte.r.1450  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here in the uk. Non OEM parts are very reasonable. £15 brake pads. £50 brake discs (rotors) takes an hour for the front £90 and a full replacement of rotors and pads about $300. The rear brake shoes (linings) £18 and brake drums £90 an hour again @£90 another $260 🤷‍♂️
      Finding a good honest independent mechanic is key. I’m going to assume parts are harder to get over there in the usa so even OEM stuff is double. But your mechanics charge by the hour at a “book” price. Such a rip off.
      However, your in and out oil changes are world class drive through things I can only dream of here. My sons Ford. V8 Expedition oil and filter change and tyre rotation (not a thing here in the uk) $140. That is insanely good value and quick and very professional

      MrAranhaman hi. There’s two reasons I do it ... one for better access and to check the hoses for cracks splits and potential ruptures also as mentioned I clean the dust and any road debris that has accumulated in the Caliper to avoid unexpecteddamage to the discs and premature damage to the new pads. Also, re the wind back tool... how do you do it??? Ram a piece metal into the caliper jaws and lever it back? Remember .. please... this is a video for people who aren’t that confident at doing these sorts of jobs... when you have loads of experience and confidence yes... there are short cuts but I’m Not that person and would had a viewer to damage their property or themselves and a hack or workaround.

    I love your videos but you really need to turn the intro music down. Almost blew my head off 😳

      Anthologylife14 I'm sorry. It's been picked up and addressed in the recent videos. Thanks for the comment and kid words also

    Shouldve replaced the rotors. Even I could see them worn down on video.

      Josh Ter here in the uk there is a mandatory annual govt test called an MOT. One of the checks are brake discs and brake pads. These are well well within legal safe parameters... they work just fine and I’d rather not throw money at something that doesn’t need it but on my family.

      Doug Price thanks. Already noted. New videos don’t have such high volume. Thanks

    Seems very hard and not easy. I should just make a video to make peoples life much easier on how to push back a brake piston

      SCOLLAY TABLE if you break this video down, piece by piece, little by little, like all my other videos it IS straight forward. You basically removing the wheel, then two bolts, pushing back the brake piston and then put in the new pads. Minimal risk.
