I've listened to this song a million times but I finally read the lyrics in a different light today. This is probably still my favorite song of dodie's though I know there will never be a studio version and I understand. I just remember watching this unfold, seeing Jon's video and then dodie's, and realizing that they were a pair, playing the two simultaneously in separate tabs to hear them together over and over, and then finally, the complete version was uploaded on my fifteenth birthday during a very rough time in my life. I remember putting my headphones in and laying back and turning it up all the way and playing this on repeat. It's just so raw and intimate and it feels so private, like you're hearing an emotional conversation from the next room over and you shouldn't be listening but you can't stop. Anyways I don't know if anyone will read this but I always come back to this video and bask in the emotion it radiates.

After thinking about it, I've made a storyline from the lyrics.. no it's not a theory unless you want to interpret it like that it's just a STORY (the ship has sailed) Jon: Dodie was supposed to go with him to Paris..he is very upset that she couldn't. something beautiful i realized while listening to both versions of this song is that it seems as if dodie wrote her part based around the chords and not very melodically, while jon was experimenting with riffs and a lot more melody. so in a sense dodie's version is more "grounded" and "realistic" while jon's version is very dreamy. it sits beautifully with "love/non love". non love represents looking at the world through the eyes of someone who's recognizing that the love is fleeting and fading, while love represents the honeymoon phase. sort of. or idk maybe i'm just reading into it a lot. but i think it's beautiful how juxtaposed the two ideals are, even down to melody structure and lyrics.

I hope this comment doesn't get lost among all the others, but I have a story I would love to tell: I was about to be in Paris between last Thursday and Monday, for the first time in my life. Was about to see someone really nice, and see the city with him too. But I couldn't go for some personal reason that came up last minute. And then I found the song Jon sings here with Eiffel Tour on the background. The first time ever I saw any video of him. - The timing was so fragile. It made me cry a ton. Then I told my "friend" I wasn't going to come. He told me not to be sad and I said I wasn't. Then went on and cried more alone in my room. And I had made this reservation at a very nice restaurant and had bought this outfit for the dinner that we'd go together. But then we couldn't and I couldn't even cancel the reservation. And around the time we were supposed to arrive to the restaurant, a French number called me twice, I saw this later as missed calls on my phone. I realized it was about the trip I couldn't make. It made me feel even more sad. But now those dates are passed and I'm still here.
I'm just hoping this gets noticed cause this would be my first ever trip abroad and I couldn't make it. I don't know when I'm gonna see him either. I'm hoping it's sooner than I think. I just wanted to wish Doddie and Jon the best in their paths. Especially you Doddie, I watched you a lot this last week when I had to take my mind off of my own sadness. He is always around the world, at different parts of it whenever he gets the chance, originally resides in NY and New York was at the top of my wishlist for around 10 years now, Paris being number 2. It's been 3 years. I still love this song. I've played this on repeat when I was brokenhearted from one-sided love. My boyfriend fell for another girl while I was away from him. This is probably still my favorite song of dodie's though I know there will never be a studio version and I understand. I just remember watching this unfold, seeing Jon's video and then dodie's, and realizing that they were a pair, playing the two simultaneously in separate tabs to hear them together over and over, and then finally, the complete version was uploaded on my fifteenth birthday during a very rough time in my life. I remember putting my headphones in and laying back and turning it up all the way and playing this on repeat. It's just so raw and intimate and it feels so private, like you're hearing an emotional conversation from the next room over and you shouldn't be listening but you can't stop. Anyways I don't know if anyone will read this but I always come back to this video and bask in the emotion it radiates.

jon's song is based off an actual event as stated in solo video's description, but dodie's was written just for the sake of this duet
something beautiful i realized while listening to both versions of this song is that it seems as if dodie wrote her part based around the chords and not very melodically, while jon was experimenting with riffs and a lot more melody. so in a sense dodie's version is more "grounded" and "realistic" while jon's version is very dreamy. it sits beautifully with "love/non love". non love represents looking at the world through the eyes of someone who's recognizing that the love is fleeting and fading, while love represents the honeymoon phase. sort of. or idk maybe i'm just reading into it a lot. but i think it's beautiful how juxtaposed the two ideals are, even down to melody structure and lyrics.

I hope this comment doesn't get lost among all the others, but I have a story I would love to tell:
I was about to be in Paris between last Thursday and Monday, for the first time in my life. Was about to see someone really nice, and see the city with him too. But I couldn't go for some personal reason that came up last minute. And then I found the song Jon sings here with Eiffel Tour on the background. The first time ever I saw any video of him. - The timing was so fragile. It made me cry a ton.
Then I told my "friend" I wasn't going to come. He told me not to be sad and I said I wasn't.
Then went on and cried more alone in my room.
And I had made this reservation at a very nice restaurant and had bought this outfit for the dinner that we'd go together. But then we couldn't and I couldn't even cancel the reservation. And around the time we were supposed to arrive to the restaurant, a French number called me twice, I saw this later as missed calls on my phone. I realized it was about the trip I couldn't make. It made me feel even more sad. But now those dates are passed and I'm still here.
I'm just hoping this gets noticed cause this would be my first ever trip abroad and I couldn't make it. I don't know when I'm gonna see him either. I'm hoping it's sooner than I think.
I just wanted to wish Doddie and Jon the best in their paths.
Especially you Doddie, I watched you a lot this last week when I had to take my mind off of my own sadness.
And I came back to Jon's video with that breathtaking view.

He is always around the world, at different parts of it whenever he gets the chance, originally resides in NY and New York was at the top of my wishlist for around 10 years now, Paris being number 2. I'm hoping I can save enough money until then to maybe be able to go to New York in the summer next year. This was a rare opportunity I could get, him being in Paris, as he's studying there for the semestre but will be back in US in a month as the term ends. I tried staying positive by thinking I might make it to NY next summer so I hope I'll be able to make up for it :)

It's been 3 years. I still love this song. I've played this on repeat when I was brokenhearted from one-sided love. My boyfriend fell for another girl while I was away from him.
