Just a tip regarding paint removal. I personally hate paint stripper because it is caustic, sloppy, and inconvenient, not to mention costly. I have a small glass jar that I keep acetone (nail polish remover) in. All you need to do is place the car in the jar for a period of time, and depending on the paint (some paint just comes off in minutes, whereas some Hot Wheels models, particularly the Car Cluture premium models have extremely durable paint jobs). The car doesn't even need to be submerged in the acetone, either. I've found just the fumes alone are enough for the paint to lose the adhesion. Regardless, once the paint is loosened, I then use steel wool / steel scouring pads to scrub the peeling paint or stubborn patches off. I perform the paint removal in a sink lined with a paper towell, let the peeled paint. decals, and steel pad bits fall into the paper towel, and throw that residue into the garbage. It has save me a great deal of time, money (nail polish remover is no more than $3.00 at most vs. at least $7 and up for paint strippers), and unpleasant dryness / tenderness to my hands. And if you care about it, you're not putting all that residue and chemicals into the water supply. I have no use for paint stripper whatsoever.
Get yourself some Microscale Micro-Set and Micro-Sol. Both work in conjunction with each other, but it's the Micro-Sol with the red lettering on the bottle that makes your decals look as if they are painted on, no visible lines from decal edges can be seen and the solvent actually forms the decals over imperfect surfaces, cracks crevaces or whatever the decals needs to be stretched over. The trick is with this stuff is to apply a liberal amount to the decal and walk away for a while and let the solvent work! The decal will literally form around whatever it was you put it on. Well worth the purchase and your hobby store should carry it
Cool video. Im a collector who has many duplicates and Im thinking of getting into the customization scene too. Great job on this one. Just curious, do you think there are any positive or negative effects of applying a clear coat paint layer after paint and decals?
I'm not a customizer myself (yet, bc now I'm thinking about it lol), but I'd think it would just be up to personal preference if you want a more glossy or matte finish
Yes. If you want to use decals, they will peel off in around a month if you don't apply clear coat!! I also find it to help not scratch the paint, it comes off more easily than you would expect when customizing. You can get carried away, but the clear coat is always a great help. But if you want to do details and decals, it's a must!!!
It's crazy how personal tastes can vary. I seek those clean stock looking hotwheels like that black Mercedes with no decals. I guess I could buy the ones with decals and bring them back to stock.
hey im just starting this hobby and was just wondering, if i want to modify a bunch of diecast cars do i buy wheels and other parts every time or can i just buy loads of parts in one go? just because there is no shop that does them near me so i have to order online and it takes well over a week per set of wheels, thanks.
I say just order a whole bunch of wheels and go nuts. I usually take my wheels off of other cars I have because I don't have a shop near me and takes too long to arrive
I’m just starting to collect hot wheels and do want to customize some of the less rare ones by chance can you tell me what Drexel tool you’re useing cuz it looks like it does wonders
I have recently made a few customs myself. I recently done a dragged out Deora 2 and it looked awesome!!! Even though the cricked spoiler is a little annoying
what do you use to make your decals stick other than water ? mine keep coming off even after drying off . ever had problems with tamiya paint? it says only for plastics only
I personally use spray paint but airbrush you can get more custom looks I just don’t have one yet, and if the wheels don’t roll because of camber you need to grind the wheel wheels of the car to make more room for the wheels to roll
did you add Fresno in fmd on your TH-cam channel after the name of a city in California “Fresno California” bc that’s where i live in Fresno California
Thx i'm about to make small replica of my afla romeo gt to place it on dashboard and my only problem is i can't find my wheels any where (light graphite 17inch rims from alfa romeo stelvio) if anyone know where to find those for hot wheels let me know
@@abrahamflores3254 I got mine at Walmart but I’m sure that lowes sells the same one tbh all dremels work the same it’s just if you want corded or cordless
For $45 shipped there shouldn’t be a single error on it. Yes they had to “design” a way to make the cool butterfly wing doors but with how flimsy most models I’ve seen opened up are, seems like a huge shot and miss from Mattel. Better try next time hopefully
Brother this is your only video, yet it was pure quality!
Please make more and show us more of your custom models.
Thank you brother!

@@neekerohe basically said put nail polish remover in a jar and leave the car in there then remove paint, it's cheaper than paint stripper

Thank you so much I have been looking for a tutorial for a while but it was hard to find one that was actually helpful until now

Great video. New to hobby but after applying decals or painting should you spray something over like clear coat or not needed?
I see lots of people aplying clear coat. Just helps the paint stick.

You don't use a clear coat ? Why?
Good to know. I plan to do a few custom cars and want to sell them.
Эти наклейки неуместны на Мерседесе, обычно такие принты на японских машинах. Но кастом сделан очень неплохо.
