Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel Full Review

  • I review the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel, a luxury resort on the coast of Southern California that typically charges rates over $1,000 per night. Is this hotel worth it given the high price? Watch to find out!
The question is how did I stay at this resort virtually for free? I used 1/4 of the signup bonus for the Amex Marriott Business Card to pay for my off-peak night.

I agree with your review. I was just there this past Saturday. I would add that the beach is next to a park and it does not feel private. I would rather stay at the Waldorf Astoria down the street. Rooms are much larger and nicer.

I haven't stayed at the Waldorf Astoria there yet but I definitely need to check it out!

I just got my Chase Marriot Bonvoy Boundless credit card, with a sign-on offer of 5 free night certificates, each is 50k points. However, when I checked the point required for this hotel, it asked for 100k points for one night, same as Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay. 😭

I just booked today, 95k points plus $50

I like the property, but the walk to the waterline is way too far from my room.

Would you consider staying here again at the new 70k-100k price points?

Hmmm, honestly that's a tough question. Personally, since I've already been I would prefer a new experience more given the hefty points cost. I think it really matters how many Bonvoy points you have and if you are willing to travel to further destinations.

Man you are just like me, get there wayyy before check in just to explore the whole place lol
Tip from a young traveler like yourself, book the cheapest room at the ritz then bring $100 to tip at check and ask for upgrade. We do it every time and get upgraded to ocean view suites on high floors every time. Hasn't failed us yet but worst case you just ask to upgrade and pay if you really weren't aiming for that room.
One thing to note though this MAY NOT work when paying for a stay with CC points, the hotels are privately owned and get the licensing rights for the brands through marriott and when you pay with CC points its basically an 'I owe you' voucher from marriott to the hotel owners and its generally less than the amount if you would of paid in cash. Some high end hotels designate rooms just for CC points and will not upgrade you but it just varies.

Wow, I thought it was only a $20 bill sandwiched between your credit card and your drivers license. But I'm not sure I have the hutzpah to try it. 🤣

@@marcusyoung5440 a $20 works too but the $100 guarantees it. "the hutzpah to try it" lol 🤣love it!

Interesting, I've heard of the $20/$100 trick before but I didn't know it had such high success. I've been tempted to try it out but I've been too nervous to lose that gamble. When you ask for the upgrade are you vague or specific? I have heard of some people just asking about any type of upgrade while some specifically say suites? I would assume you would specifically want to ask about suites?

    • @OhioPalmTrees
      @OhioPalmTrees 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@TheTravelLane$20 I say "and this is for you, is there any upgrade available?"
$100 is no BS games. I pull out my wallet and as they ask ID, CC and then the $100 comes out and there eyes generally catch it and right then I say is there any upgrades available?
"unfortunately not" and its back in the wallet she goes.
But that only happened once when I booked the jr presidential suite trying to get upgraded to the best presidential suite and was told I was in the highest upgradable suite.

It's gone downhill since Marriot bought it -- small bathrooms with NO tubs? That's bad.
