Brilliant video. So, my 991.2 Turbo S cab doesn't have that problem, but I want to remove the back seat to fit some homemade cushions and dog harness for my Golden Retriever. Your video helped me perfectly. I just wish there was a proper custom-made dog seat cover for the 911.....and please nobody comment about allowing a dog in the 911. It's a car, an amazing car, but it's just a car. Cheers mate.

Hey James so far my kludge fix is working well, I’d say it 90% cured the problem. If I push really hard on the console lid with my elbow I can get it to squeak, but normal use of the car it’s silent.
So James I had the part from Gaudin, watched the video many times and made my attempt. But...I noticed where the console lower cover was squeaking on my car, and I was able to fix it just by bending the front part of the lower cover down. So I didn't have to remove it or take out the rear seat! I'll monitor for a few days and see if the squeak returns! :-)
@@AutoAmateur I'll hold off returning for now this may not be a permanent fix! It's an odd design actually the from lip on the armrest lower cover sits on the raised edge of the metal trim.

I have a 991.2 GT3 which I still service at the dealership.He knew immediately what the fix is- some lithium grease on the two legs of the locking mechanism. After he put the great the noise is gone. The lid is touching the storage box underneath only at the hinge and in the front where is locking and the two rubber points next to the locking mechanism. It is made to flex a bit if you push on it when getting out (specially on a car like mine with the one piece sport seats) so the noise is made by plastic on plastic in the locking section. In the rest there is no contact so felt will not do anything...

Nice job! I hate squeaking cars. The rear seats come out surprisingly easy. I may take mine out and leave them out. Replacing them with a roll bar, GT3 style... hmm.

P.S. your wireless drill is set to hammer action, rather use the screw mode for screws, and drill mode for non-concrete drilling. Cheers mate!
Success! James your mechanical skills are getting finely tuned. Great job, that creaking was totally annoying and looks like it's a common wear issue on the 991. Always wanted to ask, why isn't the garage door open when it's that hot? Must be better for videotaping if closed☺

I had a similar problem. The source of the squick was rubbing of the plastic parts to each other. So I cut and stick 3mm thick felting underside the opening lid where it met with fixed base. The squick has gone and I don’t see the felting since it is underneath the opening lid.

Hey James, new subscriber and my 2015 911 C2, 17,000km, does the exact same thing. Dealership said it was caused by the leather cleaner that happened to get on the plastic and is causing the rubber nubs on the lid to squeak... anyways, I solved it by putting a pair of adhesive pads under the rubber nubs and it seems to have stopped it for now. Glad to know, if I ever have to change it I can use your awesome DIY. By the way, you stated on another video about the #911brotherhood (when I search it I only get the twin towers 911 survivors/first responders come up).
