@@gaudystream3859 Aaron Donald is better than LT. I'm not saying LT wasn't elite, but for a DT to do what Donald does, that's something remarkable. I'm not taking anything away from LT, but the league has a lot more rules now, a defender has to be extremely careful how they tackle someone and yet, Aaron Donald has top tier results.
What a privilege and honor it was to grow up in the 80's and watch my favorite player! I've been a Giant fan since 77 so I knew what losing was at an early age. When 3rd down came, which was often in Giants Stadium...EVERYONE knew LT was coming and he usually knocked someone the F out!
I would say Reggie White, Dwight Freeney, Von Miller, Aaron Donald, Khalil Mack, Myles Garrett, T.J. & J.J. Watt, and Chandler Jones are all feared Edge Rushers, with Von Miller having absured power-to-speed movement, Aaron Donald a real game-wrecker, Khalil Mack being like a lion hunting its prey, Myles Garrett being like he was built in a lab, J.J. Watt with a relentless motor & lethal swim move, T.J. Watt keeping his motor hot while chasing the QB, Chandler Jones having long arms to let him work around or through blockers to get to the QB, Reggie White tossing away linemen with his signature Hump Move, and Dwight Freeney from wrapping up linemen to putting them in the spin cycle
LT was the greatest defensive player and arguably the greatest player in NFL history. I love watching this old footage of those 80’s teams. I don’t think we’ll see anyone like him again, because no one plays with that kind of motor, and the defensive players have been shackled. This guy was an absolute force and was the main reason the Giants turned things around. The way he ran over RB and TE was unbelievable.
Dang, he really was everywhere, all at once. I remember the hits, but this clip is great because it really showcases his unreal speed, both out of the blocks, in short space, and just plain old sprinting down the field. Incredible player.
Unbelievable. The fact that a whole half of an nfl game is on this guys highlight film...as a defensive player.. is mind blowing. I never saw him play live but he has the best tape out there. Immortal
You could probably make an hour or two long video of LT easily from all of the plays he made through his career. And I'd happily watch every single second of it.
Lord have mercy he used to give my Cowboys hell. You know that kid that says “Lebron James, Lebron James, Lebron James......” because he has heard his name so much? That’s how Lawrence Taylor was when I was a child. His name was in everybody’s mouth all the time. He was something else man.
Well........think about it. LT had the speed of a defensive back and the strength of a defensive lineman. Belichick's defenses in the 1980's were extremely difficult to generate serious gains against. Belichick stressed NOT giving up the big play. Normally conservative defenses didn't generate much pressure in the offensive backfield and the aggressive defenses that did ratchet up the pressure were susceptible to big plays north of 25 yards. Lawrence Taylor was Belichick's ultimate Queen on the chess board. Numerous times against the Redskins......in 3rd and long situations......Belichick would only rush 3 defensive linemen, Lawrence Taylor and 2 Defensive Ends against 5 offensive lineman, and drop 8 men back into coverage........numerous times Taylor would manage to get to the quarterback. Unlike Ray Lewis, Mike Singletary, Derrick Thomas, or Brian Urlacher.........Lawrence Taylor had no problems with blockers.....he was NEVER in a scheme that shielded him.

Amazing that he could have that much impact that quickly in a game he didnt even start... So hes still injured (even if only slightly), hes coming into a tough game with his muscles basically cold, and he swings a point differential by 13 points in a quarter (from the defensive side of the ball) in a era where games ending 6-3 were much more common than today. It's one thing for offensive players to be able to pick apart defenses. For a defensive player to continue to effect outcomes that often, when you know teams tried their best to scheme away from him and always make it tough for him to be involved in plays at all, that is incredible. I had always heard of his dominance but was too young to be able to appreciate it at that time so it's nice to have a video like this to look back and really see how dominant he could be.
@Barry Allen tbh I think he’s the greatest player in nfl history because he achieved a level of dominance in his position that hasn’t been seen before. He was so far ahead of everyone else and still would be to this day. That can’t be said about Rice or Moss or Sanders or Montana or Brady
What a great video. Most highlight videos of L.T. just show his sacks, which were phenomenal, but the reason he's the greatest defensive player of all time is he could do anything... everything... and no one else could... and no one could stop him, no matter what. He was able to frighten opponents with textbook tackling. Amazing. His game certainly translates to today’s. You could even argue he’d have 20+ every year becuase of the rise of passing attempts per game.
